    Billiard Room
    Dave C.

I visited back in 2018; did a second visit in March 2022 where my spouse and I stayed overnight - so I wanted to share lodging thoughts. There are 3 buildings one can stay in (Tiger Den, Tiger Pointe, Tiger View Lodge). We stayed in Tiger View Lodge because it is the only building where you can see the tigers from inside the building. Highly recommend. Our room was large, comfortable, had a private bath. There are 2 patios; one overlooks the tigers, the other overlooks the countryside. The lodge has several shared rooms; kitchen, dining room that flows into living room with fireplace, room with billiard table flows into room with TV/games. Very spacious. Building has 4 bedrooms. My photos tell the story.

The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly! I can say from personal experience that they go very far to make sure the animals going through their non-profit facility go to the right loving responsible home. The negative reviews on here don't line up with our experience. I highly recommend looking at their program called "Paws for Parole". These dogs come out of the program well behaved and trained. As a previous dog trainer I can say this level of training can cost thousands of dollars. Our gentle giant Izzy (Formally known as Candy) came to us potty trained, obedience trained, and with a beautiful level attitude that takes months of dedicated training to achieve. If I could give this place 6 stars I would!

The lady brought out the dog, which was wet and had feces on its shoulder fur. I decided to adopt the dog due to its good personality. After accepting the paperwork the woman came back and asked whether the puppy was going to be an indoor or outdoor dog. I stated that she was going to be an outdoor dog. This killed the deal despite the plan to keep the dog inside till it was bigger. The lady said that their policy would not allow puppies to be outdoor dogs. Perhaps some of the detail that they show in interrogating potential owners would be better used in care for the animals. After 2 wasted trips and broken hearts I can not say we or the dog were well served.

I applaud their diligence in the adoption process as well, as it ensures the most successful placement for every animal.. Adopting several senior dogs through STLSDP has been extremely rewarding. Every dog we have adopted has brought immense joy and love into our family. These older animals desperately need a safe and loving home to finish out their remaining years. Explaining my situation, I made clear that I needed assistance and was asking for any information, if they could take this poor dog, etc. All I received was a very cold response via email - "At this time we have no openings. I'm sorry." I then inquired about other places and said that I was desperate. I got another response asking a couple of questions, and for a picture. I sent them my replies, and then another cold, unfeeling response: There are many cavalier rescues and beagle rescues. It was so unhelpful. I just thought people would try harder to help.
