The lady brought out the dog, which was wet and had feces on its shoulder fur. I decided to adopt the dog due to its good personality. After accepting the paperwork the woman came back and asked whether the puppy was going to be an indoor or outdoor dog. I stated that she was going to be an outdoor dog. This killed the deal despite the plan to keep the dog inside till it was bigger. The lady said that their policy would not allow puppies to be outdoor dogs. Perhaps some of the detail that they show in interrogating potential owners would be better used in care for the animals. After 2 wasted trips and broken hearts I can not say we or the dog were well served.

The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly! I can say from personal experience that they go very far to make sure the animals going through their non-profit facility go to the right loving responsible home. The negative reviews on here don't line up with our experience. I highly recommend looking at their program called "Paws for Parole". These dogs come out of the program well behaved and trained. As a previous dog trainer I can say this level of training can cost thousands of dollars. Our gentle giant Izzy (Formally known as Candy) came to us potty trained, obedience trained, and with a beautiful level attitude that takes months of dedicated training to achieve. If I could give this place 6 stars I would!

They go above and beyond for all of their customers. We lost our foster dog and they were posting and out looking for her tirelessly with us until she was found. They recruited others to help as well. What other business do you know that would do that?! They truly love what they do and care so much about animals. They are very knowledgeable about the products they sell and have reps come in to give educational talks which I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate. Anyone can start a business but it takes a special group of people to create a sense of community and family in that business. Support them, this town NEEDS them here! They are some of the best and most welcoming people you will meet.

For me it was more about finding the right dog rather than focusing on which shelter because I am grateful for all of the shelters, HSSI, St. Francis, Wrightway, Crittergal etc... I drove down to PAWS on a Sunday in the rain close to closing one February. I walked in and told Karee about my dog and how I just wanted a good friend that was a smallish, youngish, adult dog that gets along with other dogs and cats. At first I was a little surprised that I wasn't able to go back and look at the different dogs, but she listened to what I was looking for and said, I'm going to show you Blackie. She brought out a little long stocky black and brindle boy with a white blaze on his chest who didn't know what was going on. I visited with him and he felt just right when he jumped up and finally sat on my lap. I thought about it and called her on my way home and told her I wanted him. I had filled out the adoption app and showed her tons of pics of my past dogs who I have been lucky to have. I know that it has been hard finding staff enough to try and care for all the animals that PAWS tries to save and I know that Karee loves each of the animals she takes into her care - - some of them that she has adopted out have shown back up at PAWS maybe 3 yrs later in horrible shape, neglected. And I have volunteered at shelters before. It is a tough spot to be in because it is on you to be a guardian of these dogs and cats and to put them in a safe loving environment. And maybe sometimes you can be overcautious or protective to a fault. And maybe they aren't always the most friendly or obliging to everyone who calls. But, remember they are on the front lines, seeing animals in dire conditions in numbers such that it is so hard to save them all. They have seen people they thought would give their animals good homes fail. They are not in this for donations/money....they do it because they love animals enough to endure the heartache that comes with trying to ease the pain, hunger, suffering, fear, bad situations like when an owner dies and their loved pet has no one to care for them. I am so grateful for people like all the rescues mentioned above because I am not sure I would have the strength for it. And I would never try to steer anyone away from a place that is trying to save animals lives in rescue. Even if I were denied and I felt that it was wrong of them to deny me because I know I am a good owner, I would never go online and try to cast aspersions on an animal rescue. I know I could find a place to adopt an animal from...there are plenty of animals in need. Also, there may be lots of applicants for one particular animal and in my opinion I don't necessarily think it should be first come, first serve with an animal...the animal should go to the applicant who they think would give it the best home. That's my take on PAWS. They do this as a labor of love.

The dogs are able to go out on a leash and play with you, and the cats are able to be taken out of their cages and interact. There are no hoops to jump through, or volunteer applications to fill out; just show up and play! The staff is fantastic as well. My sister adopted a kitty almost a year ago, and they still ask her about him every time we stop in. They all have a deep-rooted passion for their work and it shows. This place makes my heart so happy. :)

(They came with our house and we did do some routine de wormer and checked that they are spayed, they were left by previous family and it is what it is. We love and care for them). So that is all fine. What isn't fine is that the receptionist tells me like I'm now being judged and then just hung up on me while I was speaking. You get paid to sit in a chair and make a phone call. I was at work on a tractor and still stopped what I was doing and was politely handling business. Quality control is out the window. I had originally intended to adopt two black cat sisters, but they have another sister, a Torti. After cuddling with her, we decided to adopt her as well. All three kittens are so full of life and make everyday so fun. If you are considering adopting a cat or kittens from any organization, please contact Little Paws of Mt. Vernon. Emily got back to us super fast and gave us a private appointment to view their cats via zoom. We paid the adoption fee that day and by the end of the week, we went to pick up our kittens, after they were spayed. Little Paws of Mt. Vernon is a wonderful organization. Their incompetent vet, Dr. creese,…read morekilled him with an overdose of anesthesia that she administered with a stickpoke without weighing him. When, while quite upset, we went to get his body, the front staff, a woman named Chesney rolled her eyes and laughed at us as we cried and waited for his body. Dr. Creese shoved his body at us and said 'you can leave now'. The president of the board, who is in a personal relationship with the vet that killed our cat, lied and claimed her staff was 'too busy' to show compassion while we waited for his body. She defended the fact that the vet overdosed my cat and murdered him. The entire staff and organization are heartless, corrupt and horrible people. Do not take your beloved pets here or they will be murdered and the staff will abuse you after they murder your pets.

I called to reschedule my dogs date/time for her last vaccine. I was immediately attacked and berated by not one, but two employees. I was floored by the immediate, unexpected over the top rudeness.
