Strangely, and unexpectedly, the service here is amazing! I…read moresay that because at most normal hardware outlets (read 'B&Q') you are served by people who seem quite inept (sure there are many that are not). Always with a smile, always with a view to actually helping you. The people are knowledgeable and will even point you toward cheaper alternatives that will do the job you have in hand just as well as the product you initially came in for. Therein lies the best part of interacting with the staff here: they want to understand the job you are doing first, and then they will sort you out with the right product. I've bought a range of fence panels, treated wood for external construction, screws and bolts of different types and even had these delivered to my home address. Great quality and service from my arrival to product delivery. I happily travel that little extra distance to go here and get my stuff.

The last 2 I had bought which although they were cheap (around £4 each) I might as well have used newspaper!! They do delivery nationwide but I decided to go and pick it up as its not too far away from me. The directions were spot on and they couldn't have been more helpful. Their prices are very good as well. Well worth stopping off if you need a tarpaulin or related product. **This place is not in Hampshire, but in what used to be Middlesex. I think Ashford now comes under Surrey. The only other option for the south east was kent so I chose the Hants address which is closer. The postcode and everything else is correct. There is a lot here, but I did feel like I was being talked down to a bit, probably because I didn't look like or sound like I knew exactly what I wanted, maybe the guy was having a bit of a bad day, dunno, but didn't make me want to hang around. I'll definitely come back for small quick fix jobs though, is very conveniently located and they have a shed load of stuff.

The great thing was having this Homebase about a mile from home. Its a fairly big version and has plenty of parking. Inside there are all the relevant sections for us, paint, wood, tools, nails, etc. The garden section is also very extensive and we have spent some time there in the Spring picking out bits and pieces. My only criticism would be the check-out, it has to be the slowest around. I also had to wait ages for someone to help mix some paint even though there were only a handful of customers in the place. However it is convenient and the prices are good.
