If I could rate Crudo 1,000 stars, I would. This was easily our favorite restaurant of our short stay in Oaxaca. We happened to stumble upon it in Google Maps-- no idea it was Michelin rated. We booked a reservation on a weekend evening.
Quite inconspicuous-- with hardly any signage, our only indicator that we'd arrived was the hostess waiting outside. Once indoors, we were led into a slinky, intimate bar tastefully accented with Mexican and Japanese decor. We opted for omakase to taste a bit of everything.
OMG, the food is to die for. IDK how chef Ricardo Arellano does it. I literally don't have the language to describe how the flavors are so complex yet familiar. Fish is exceedingly fresh and fatty. Each dish is precisely curated, weaving punchy, Oaxacan ingredients into traditional sushi formats. I've had elevated Mexican-Japanese fusion in the US, but nothing so vibrant and bold.
On top of this, the staff and service are stellar. We felt right at home. Can't stop singing Crudo's praises. For sure a must-visit in Oaxaca. read more
