It's always such a joy to come back to dumbarton & taking a trip up to the castle is always a…read morehighlight. My family emigrated to Brooklyn NY from from dumbarton when my grandmother was a child in the 50's. She never forgot where she was from and took us back to visit many many times when I was growing up. The castle is the dominating feature of the town, as most Scottish castles are. Sitting between two mounds on the river Clyde the the structure looks as old as the hills themselves. Walking to the top of the mount is not for those who don't like heights as the walkway is nothing more than a staircase over a valley at points. The view from the top is nothing short of breathtaking, and makes me proud every time of my Scottish roots. If you happen to find yourself in Glasgow and have some free time, do yourself a favor and take the 20£ cab ride into dumbarton (trains even cheaper). Make your way to the castle and enjoy one of the great treasures of Scotland.

We booked the "Meet the Birds" experience, which was affordable, and incredible. We were allowed to handle many birds...when I say handle, I mean, we were given gloves and the birds perched on our arms, and a couple of them flew to us. The guides and the owner were absolutely amazing with their knowledge, and care of the birds. The highlight was holding Orla, the Golden Eagle. She was incredible. There was also a flying show, which was really fun to watch. We really enjoyed our experience. As a note to the other visible review, when we were there, there were many open areas without any birds, that clearly do house them, so it appears that they are not always on display/not always tethered. While I am not 100% sure on this, it absolutely appeared to me that the birds were happy, healthy, and well cared for.

The staff I encountered were lovely, and I believe they are providing the highest quality care they believe they are capable of providing. The owls have bigger aviaries with perches and boxes so that they have freedom to choose to be on display or hiding from view. All captive animals deserve to have appropriate habitats. The other birds are missing out on at least two of the Five Freedoms of animal welfare, which were established in the UK in 1965 and have been adopted by many veterinarians, livestock facilities, zoos, as well as the RSPCA. Animals in captivity should have... - Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area - Freedom to express (most) normal behavior by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind I understand the birds get flown on the owner's property and that birds of prey only fly for 5% of their lives. However, being allowed that 5% of flying time and being tethered for most of the rest does not equal high quality of life. Even captive born birds of prey require enrichment to live high quality lives. Some specific things these birds could use: - the ability to perch at their leisure on perches of varying sizes - water - live plants - various substrates on the ground - next boxes/burrows - novel items - the ability to hide from view. Being on display to humans without the ability to escape is incredibly stressful for animals. There are Facebook groups that can connect the staff with other facilities that care for birds of prey so that can get and share ideas to provide the quality of care these birds deserve. They could also simply Google "bird of prey enrichment" and get loads of ideas. There are so many resources and things they could do, and I hope someone there reads this and starts taking small steps to provide a better quality of life for these feathered beauties.

It's at the bottom of Clune Brae and easily accessible by bus or taxi and to be fair it's a pretty good social club. I've been here a few times (insert occasion) and I've always had a good time (except funerals, natch). Drinks are cheap, staff are pretty great at dealing with the drunks who don't want to leave at the end of the night and best of all, the toilets are decent. No nasty toilets here, clean but serviceable and more than one cubicle. They are not huge but enough to still fit in that girly gossip circle, as well as those whose bladders are straining. Not sure how much it costs to book but appears there are two sections - a members bit which shows the footie games on a projector (which can be seen from the bar in the function room incase that big game is on, mid big occasion), as well as an outdoor patio section which attracts the smokers. So, not much more to say about the Hibs - my reports are based on observations made whilst sober and given the prices of the drinks (mucho cheap in that great social club way) and the usually celebratory nature of my visits, then sobriety is often fleeting. Worth a visit!

Cineworld in town: faaaaaar too busy, I had the misfortune of going one Wednesday night (clementine special pass day) and was virtually in a different postcode when I joined the queue. Also it's rather pricey. Odeon at the Quay: this place is dirty and smelly, and what's with the seat upgrade thing? What they really mean is you can pay an additional surcharge not to have to sit on some kind of medieval bottom torture device. Rubbish. GFT: understandably the film lovers choice, and its independent status and classic style is certainly worth a great deal. It's my second favourite cinema, but egad, if it isn't the most middle class, pompous place sometimes. Have you ever been there to see any smarmy, self important, clever-clever, foreign language comedies there? I have, and the self-satisfied smirking of my fellow cinema goers almost had me throwing my popcorn (that's if they sold such crass sub-bourgeois commodities as popcorn). And so, the Empire in Clydebank. Quite far from home, yes. Limited to only mainstream blockbuster releases, yes that too. Dirty with every surface permacoated in a greasy film, yes, also the case. The threat of casual violence consistently in the air, alas also a fair point. But whenever I've been it's been damn cheap, utterly dead (I've rarely queued for a ticket there) and without incident. There was that time during the second Matrix film that a massive fight broke out behind me, but we were given free tickets to a future film showing of our choice. At least I think that was the reason. Maybe they were so ashamed about the utter absence of any redeeming features offered by second Matrix film that they felt they had to give something back. Also, near ASDA if you need some milk before hometime.

My mum took her grandson to a viewing of Jumanji on Saturday she is 76 years old there for…read morepensioner price 6-50 . my nephew kids price 6-50 . the guy serving her spoke to his colleague the whole transaction not listening properly. my mum said he was talking bout going out that night and what he was gonna get up to. it wasn't until she got home that she realised she had been charged 8-50 instead of 6-50.(his lack of customer service had angered her a bit) she couldnt go back until Monday and spoke to a girl who got manager, the manager was rude and blunt and waved a hand in my mums face saying she should have dealt with it on Saturday and walked away from my mum .she threw her receipt away in frustration. I emailed company got no response and expressed my frustration on social media (in a polite way) I got a reply saying they will look in to it. and basically got same response as my mum did. no mention about the guy not doing his job right or how abrupt the manager was.( I wonder if she would have been that abrupt had it been a younger woman or a large man )( I think not !!) anyways will never set foot in an empire cinema again I have a staff night out next month and 33 of us are going to see A Quiet Place 2 we are going to odeon cinema to see it . hope this helps.

Yup its me again ... back at the bingo…read more Decided to branch out and try a new venue in the quest for a win but sadly it wasnt meant to be. This is a fair sized hall with lots of seats amnd funky swival seats too. There is a bar and food menu available too which has recently had an upgrade although still not a large gf section. Large carpark outside and cash machines inside. Go on give bingo a go .... you never know you might like it :)

Good food menu and although I didn't have anything, it all looked delicious. Had a really good night! Younger crowd here too as well as the blue rinse brigade!
