She was very condescending, and she made a lot of untrue assumptions about my health and condition that she didn't give me any opportunity to correct. She told me, a prediabetic, not to monitor my levels or symptoms, because I would be getting diabetes anyway and I could "worry about it then." She told me I couldn't be depressed because I was "married and looked happy." When I told her a medication was ineffective for me, she argued with me that I didn't understand the medication. Meanwhile, there was evidence in my blood tests that it wasn't effective. She told me I needed to lose weight while completely disregarding the medical conditions that are contributing to that inability to lose weight. She told me "I don't even know your diet, but we need to change your diet." I am an ambulatory wheelchair user. She told me I was "too young to be in a wheelchair" while simultaneously asking no questions about what symptoms lead me to be in a wheelchair. She assumed the pain/weakness was in my legs because she never took a moment to ask where it was. It was my back. When I corrected her, she dismissed me. There is more, all negative, but these were the highlights. It was evident that she had made up her mind about me as soon as she saw my age, weight, and my wheelchair. She let her biases prevent her from actually engaging with me and the provided care clearly suffered because of that. On a more personal note, she was fully aware of my mother's terminal cancer before my appointment, because she has been involved in my mother's care as well. I am my mother's primary caregiver. She knew and verbally acknowledged the kind of stress that situation would put on a person. I told her I had been diagnosed with MDD and GAD. She was aware that I had the mental conditions and external circumstances to create a mentally and emotionally sensitive or delicate person. She still chose to treat me in a callous and condescending way. I am very fortunate that I have a good support system at home and a trusted therapist. For another person in my situation, but without a support system to fall back on, a visit to Dr Mercer could be dangerous.

From the start, this facility's handling of our care has been marked by avoidable disruptions, poor communication, and a lack of accountability--not just "normal" system challenges. Our child's psychiatric appointment was scheduled four weeks in advance. We were not informed when several psychiatric providers resigned, and the appointment had to be rescheduled. I drove to the appointment only to be turned away and told to reschedule. When we returned, our child was referred for therapy, we scheduled her first appointment that day, and had to wait a lengthy period of time for that appointment to come around. Today, I received a call from Amanda (New Port Richey) that the therapist decided to retire early, meaning my child's long-awaited appointment had to be rescheduled. When I challenged the repeated failures and asked for accountability, I was met with dismissal and excuses. Instead of solutions, I was spitefully told there is "no availability" in New Port Richey and that we could "just drive" to Brooksville, even though they had called me to "reschedule" in New Port Richey. We don't live in or near Brooksville. Thank you, Amanda (New Port Richey) and Learning to Achieve Wellness, for showing me quickly that your facility cannot facilitate our child achieving wellness, that the way you treat your patients and families is a disgrace, and that my child and our family deserve much more than what your facility and staff can offer. This has been the worst patient experience I've encountered in a healthcare setting, especially when it comes to fighting for a child who struggles with self-harm. Scheduled care was treated as optional, communication was consistently missing, and we were forced to absorb every failure of yours with ZERO compassion or effort to rectify its wrongs. We are pulling our child from this facility and seeking services elsewhere. My experience with this practice started off on the wrong foot…read more I was assigned a therapist and found the onboarding process confusing. There were no clear instructions provided regarding how to access the Zoom appointments, which created unnecessary stress before the first session. During both my first and second appointments, the sessions lasted only about 20 minutes. The therapist seemed distracted and disengaged throughout our conversations. When I asked a question during one session, I felt dismissed by the response I received. The overall interaction felt impersonal, and I did not feel heard or supported. Much of the time was spent sending handouts and assigning homework rather than building rapport or understanding my concerns. I also felt that the therapist was reluctant to engage on camera, which made it more difficult to establish a therapeutic connection. After two sessions, I decided the relationship was not a good fit and chose to cancel my third appointment. The cancellation policy was confusing. The practice states that cancellations require three business days' notice, but because therapists work weekends, it was unclear what qualifies as a business day. I canceled on Thursday morning for a Monday appointment, spoke with the office, explained that the therapist was not a good fit, and specifically asked whether I would be charged. I was later assessed a $125 cancellation fee. When I contacted the office to request consideration or clarification, my request was denied without exception. While I understand practices need cancellation policies, I found the communication around the policy unclear and the handling of the situation disappointing. On a positive note, I have since found another therapist who has been attentive, engaged, kind, and present during sessions. That experience has highlighted for me how important a strong therapeutic fit can be. Based on my experience, I would encourage this practice to improve its onboarding instructions, clarify its cancellation policy, and place greater emphasis on patient engagement during initial sessions.
