I…read moreinitially came here several years ago when they were at their old location in the heart of Downtown Silver Spring. I did a tour of the museum and was very impressed. Most recently, I came to their new location in Forest Glen to take one of their free weekly "Learn to Meditate" classes. The instructor told us a little about himself and his history with the museum. We then did some exercises that taught us some best practices on how to meditate. The instructor was extremely helpful, and being surrounded by other like-minded people made the experience that much more enjoyable. The meditation class is every Saturday from 11am-12pm. They also have classes on vegan/vegetarian cooking, soul/body awareness, self-confidence and self-respect, relaxation techniques, and much much more. The classes are free of charge, but they do take voluntary donations. This is a great place for people looking to tap into their spirituality. I look forward to attending more of their events in the future.

I've been…read morestudying the Enneagram through the Diamond Approach for 15 years and Rob added another depth of knowledge and understanding to what I already knew. He has great versatility in his ability to understand the nuances of each type, how each type interacts with their core fixation and how each type might be mistaken for another. He taught each of the enneatypes with respect to the 3 foundations of mindfulness - body, heart and mind - and how each of those mindfulness practices could be a source of support for us as we learn to loosen up our attachment to the egoic aspects of our enneatype. His teaching style is relaxed and relational and he never seemed rushed with any of our questions or observations but rather would take the time to explore them. I recommend keeping an eye out for the next time he offers the course.

She's uniquely skilled--she's incredibly knowledgeable and professional; she up-to-date on the latest approaches and in working with clients to get stronger, and more fit and healthy. (She and Ken build their practice around a holistic approach to functional aging--the living of vital, active lives.) Megan always focuses on the client's needs. She prepares individualized routines, and she's both motivating and supportive while giving regular tips on position, stance, form, etc.... Megan's knowledge is amazingly broad. She can answer seemingly any question about physiology, musculature, exercise strategy--you name it. She is also fun to work with. From the moment we connected via email, I had a good feeling about her. She responded promptly, and she even communicated with me via text message, which I found very personable and accessible. Inside is a beautifully decorated office space, I would call it quite simple and zen. She gave me a little tour on my first visit. One of the many things I enjoy about my sessions with Jessica is that she takes the time to ask me questions about how I have been doing over the last couple of weeks. She is a wonderful listener and is always concerned about how I am feeling and what is going on in my life. She always remembers what we spoke about and remembers my loved ones' names, which I find very thoughtful and nice. After we catch up on life, she asks me what my main concern(s) are currently. I tell her what they are and then she proceeds to guide me through a meditative hypnosis wherein we focus on the topic or person of my choice. From the first session, I felt a weight lifted off my chest. Three sessions after that, I feel more empowered, confident, and peaceful. Meditation is something I have been learning and practicing for a few years. At times during meditation, one can feel vulnerable and fearful. I feel protected and safe when Jessica guides me through a meditation/hypnosis, and that is extremely important for it to be effective. Hypnosis was something I have never done before, but always wanted to try. I have learned in my personal studies that much of our inner healing takes place when we are silent and still. I find that silence to be very healing - even though it's hard sometimes to be still and silent for longer than 5 minutes for someone as restless as me. She guides me through a meditation that I helped create (my happy place is a beautiful beach). She has also guided me through other various hypnotic states. I have learned how to better meditate and visualize whatever results I want. I have also learned how to focus more on gratitude and less on fear-based thought patterns and behaviors. It's hard to describe how helpful meditation and hypnosis are - but I believe they're the best kind of therapy that exist. Jessica is one of the most kind hearted and also professional people I have ever worked with. She has given me tools that I can take with me and use any time in my life. She has a VERY calming presence and voice, and she fluctuates her tone during the hypnosis, which I find to be very pleasant and relaxing. A few months after becoming a member, I tried spinning classes, which were fun and challenging. I…read moresoon noticed the seats, set parallel to the floor, didn't fit my anatomy. I was sliding forward uncomfortably. I brought a wrench, raised the front of (just)one seat a notch, and then it didn't feel as if I were struggling to stay on. I chose the narrowest, least padded style, similar to a racing bike saddle. The owner told me I was the only one who preferred that kind. There used to be a 'needs fixing' sheet for members to list equipment problems. Some had written complaints that the bike seats were 'tipped.' So, the staff flattened all the seats. I went to Lee, the manager, and asked politely if I could have one seat (just one seat!) adjusted to my comfort. I was met with an expression of surprise and mild annoyance. Denied. The classes were never full so nobody would've been forced to use a 'tipped' seat. But even if all the bikes in the spinning studio had been taken, there were four more in other parts of the gym, which I never saw in use simultaneously. One seat on any of those could've been adjusted without forcing anyone to use a 'tipped' seat. And of course, the seat posts are interchangeable. So, on it went: I'd adjust a single saddle, a staff member would flatten it, and the charade would begin anew. I politely raised the issue with Ruby, the owner; she said she'd put a note on a saddle to not flatten it. A week later she reneged, implying Lee wouldn't allow it. The reasoning: If one was changed, then all could be changed and Lee wasn't willing to deal with that. Denied again. BUT, he accommodated all those who complained about 'tipped' seats. That's not fair. He could've easily worked with me and gotten to 'yes.' The seats are adjustable for a reason. The entire business is BASED on human anatomy, including its--ahem--variations. I was 'nudged' by the former manager shortly after starting my membership. Under my original 4-star rating on this page, she added a note asking me what it would take to add a fifth star. Consistent, prolonged and respectful treatment as a valued member, I would've told her. But, my reasonable requests were repeatedly ignored. A couple of the staff(K and K) seemed to view me as demanding, difficult, and treated me with veiled hostility. And then there's this: The two managers, Lee & Jen, plus Lee's wife, wrote 5-star reviews on this page. These are conflict of interest violations per Google usage rules. I was only there for the 90 day trial and I'm a night owl, so coming here closer to midnight was quiet and at times, I'll have the gym to myself! It's a great gym. However, one thing I did notice is when I go take a shower after a work out and some bugs enter the bathroom flying around. At first, I was so hysterical because I thought a wasp came in, but no, idk what it is, but it's definitely not a wasp or mosquito. Other than that, great gym.
