As a veteran I am grateful for the effort made to acknowledge the sacrifices made by those of us who were honored to serve our country in this way. We who served understand we didn't do it to be recognized and we don't need recognition but we appreciate it when it happens. The folk who put this location together did it right, and it's still being expanded. I made note there was no Gulf War monuments, because that was my timeline, but I was quickly informed it's in the works, but needs more money. Duly noted and a donation made. This is actually more enjoyable to visit than the cheesy little Eiffel Tower next it IMHO.

Anyway, I was meeting two friends here. The Internet had the hours off, but I suppose adjusting hours happens when a restaurant is new. I arrived "early" but right before the kitchen closed. However, the chef was kind enough to take all of our orders and wait until my friends arrived (30'+ later) to serve us all. Food was all warm and all delicious. Also, the entire staff never made us feel rushed to leave, even though we were the only ones eating, and the only ones left in the entire restaurant! (e.g., none at the bar) (e.g., I had to ask for the check; they didn't do that thing where they deliver it as soon as the food is set down) Again, the food was great, and my only regret is I didn't take any pics. We had fried pickles, catfish Julie (blackened), chicken fried steak, brisket quesadilla, cobbler with ice cream, a couple beers... We did take some leftovers home, since we didn't want to overstay our welcome, and there was a lot of food. Leftovers were still delish the next day! I'm honestly trying to reduce my desserts, but all three of us enjoyed the pecan cobbler. The chicken fried steak also was a perfect portion size: large but not overhanging the plate. The potatoes and gravy were also quite good. Our server Clarabelle was attentive and pleasant. The rest of the staff was as well. The menu has many great choices in Texas dishes. We will definitely come back and try some more. Recommended.
