I don't typically write reviews -- mostly because I don't have the time, and rarely feel strongly enough about an experience to do so. But this situation absolutely warrants it. If you are considering Culligan Water, I strongly urge you to reconsider. My husband and I both work full-time and, like most people, value our time off. We are currently 20 weeks pregnant and wanted to address our hard water issues before our baby arrives. We understood this would be a significant investment and have spent years saving what most middle-class families would consider a large amount of money to fix this issue. From the very beginning, our experience was frustrating. When we first called, the receptionist struggled to locate our address, which extended the call unnecessarily. While not a major issue on its own, it set the tone. Things quickly went downhill after that. We were contacted by the water specialist, Diane, to confirm our appointment. At the time, I was checking out at a store and handed the phone to my husband. Diane was immediately rude to him, questioning why I had passed the phone and cutting him off when he tried to explain. She then informed us -- immediately after we had just scheduled -- that she needed to reschedule due to her own doctor's appointment. While we tried to be understanding, it raised concerns about internal organization. We rescheduled for March 25 between 10:00-10:30 AM. The day before the appointment, Diane called again asking for directions -- something we had already explained to the company. During this call, she stated, "If I can't figure out where you live, I'm not going to waste my time coming out there," which was incredibly unprofessional. I confirmed the appointment time again, and she reiterated the 10:00-10:30 AM window. The following morning, we were woken up by aggressive knocking at our door. It was 9:08 AM -- nearly an hour before the scheduled appointment. When I answered the door, still in pajamas, Diane insisted multiple times that I was wrong and that the appointment was at 9:00 AM. I showed her the official confirmation email from Culligan stating the correct time, yet she continued to argue and instead referenced her personal phone calendar as proof. At no point did she acknowledge her mistake or apologize. During this interaction, I became physically ill due to my pregnancy. While I was in the bathroom, Diane commented to my husband that it "made sense" why I was "grouchy." This was not only inappropriate but completely unacceptable. She then escalated the situation further by calling her General Manager and putting my husband on the spot to voice a complaint -- something we never asked for. She even misrepresented the situation to the manager, attempting to blame the receptionist instead of taking responsibility herself. To make matters worse, after all of this, we were quoted between $12,000 and $24,100 for a system -- for a 700 sq. ft. home with one small bathroom. We were provided no written quote, no documentation, and no water test results -- only a verbal estimate. When I later contacted the company to request our water test results, my request was routed back to Diane, who told us that any communication had to go directly through her. After everything that had already happened, this was incredibly frustrating and inappropriate. This entire experience -- from start to finish -- was unprofessional, disorganized, and frankly disrespectful. We went into this process prepared to make a serious investment in our home and were met with poor communication, lack of accountability, and unacceptable behavior. I rarely say this, but I would strongly advise others not to waste their time with this company. read more

These people are the worst. Going all the way back to when they first installed this system, they've been nothing but problems and bad attitudes. There's a little valve at the inlet to the system. It has seeped water since the day they installed this about 10 years ago. Their only solution was to mail me a part and expect me to repair their faulty installation. That valve seeps water to this day. I wanted them to do a bacteria test on the water coming into the system. I paid them to come out and take a sample. The guy showed up and insisted on taking the sample downstream of the system, when the whole point of he visit was to check it up stream of the system, before it came into the house. Then, even though the test wasn't what I wanted, I never did get any results. I called repeatedly about it. They would never let me talk to the owner, Everett. They always said I had to talk to someone else (who was never there) and would never call back. If you visit their website, it has an email address for contact. I have sent multiple emails to that address never a response. The only positive review they have, if not a shill review, was apparently written by a guy for whom something as simple as swapping out a clogged filter was equivalent to the Manhattan Project. Their office staff, Nicole in particular, has the worst customer service attitude I ever encountered. Don't like what they're getting from them? The office women make it very clear they could not care less. I will NEVER do any more business with these people. read more

I'd like to give zero stars! We bought our house in 2021 and inherited the Culligan water system that the previous owners had installed - a water softener, an anion filter (for removal of Uranium), and a reverse osmosis filter. Not knowing any better, we kept the system and followed their recommended maintenance, which included filling salts and changing a sediment filter every 6 months. However, we noticed that the water was perhaps leaching copper from our pipes, and causing blue-green staining on our tubs and sinks. I asked their maintenance folks about this, and they tested our water for acidity. It was slightly acidic, and so the Culligan worker recommended that we should add additional treatment to take care of the acidity. I was curious why our groundwater would be acidic, and so I tested the water myself, both what was coming directly from our well and the water at our tap (after the Culligan filtration systems). Turns out, the Culligan filters were making the water acidic! The pure water coming out of our well was neutral. When I complained about this, they sent over their "water expert" to do more testing. She informed us that we really needed to do much more maintenance on the system, as well as purchase another component that would correct for the water's acidity. The suggested maintenance included changing the medium in the anion filter, which she said had never been changed since installation many years ago. She told me that the tank could be radioactive (!!!) because it was filtering Uranium. Culligan had never mentioned this before, nor recommended this level of maintenance. The quote for this new maintenance and the new component to correct for the acidity that their filters were causing: $6750. I decided to do a little of my own research. I tested our well water for Uranium. Yes, it's present, but at 5.21 ug/L, considerably less than the EPA water standard (30 ug/L) and the VT drinking water standard (20 ug/L). And the State of Vermont provides a great resource on water contaminants by town. Our town's maximum recorded Uranium in private wells: 14 ug/L. All of this made me pretty comfortable with getting rid of the anion filter, and getting rid of Culligan all together. Had they scared the previous elderly owners into getting a system that they didn't really need? Who knows! There's more to the story, but the last clincher was that they charged us $795 to have the whole system removed. It took the maintenance workers maybe 45 minutes to do the job. Not a bad hourly wage! For months, I asked for an itemized bill to show me labor costs and the costs of disposing the filters. They were unable to supply it, saying that $795 is their standard cost for any removal. read more

We put in a complete house water system and have been paying every month hundreds of dollars for the system. It isn't working and we constantly have to call and they keep saying we need to add this and then this. New filters constantly. We are going to have someone come and check this system out! read more
