We are extremely dissatisfied with our experience with Culver's Landscaping. Communication has been very poor throughout the process. We have had to initiate every phone call ourselves just to get updates on our project. When we signed on, we were told our project would be one of the first completed this summer, yet we have received virtually no proactive communication regarding scheduling or progress. After the heavy rains last week, we assumed our project would begin today, but no one showed up and no one contacted us. Once again, we are left having to reach out ourselves to find out what is happening. To make matters more frustrating, we were recently informed that our original project manager no longer works for the company. Now we are being told that the new project manager would like to schedule yet another walk-through, despite previous meetings and discussions. At this point, we are beyond frustrated and disappointed. The lack of communication, follow-through, and project management has made what should have been an exciting landscaping project a very negative experience. read more

If you're in the market for some gardening, Culver's in Marion is probably the largest dealer of plants and garden materials in the area. There is a very large outdoor area filled with flowers, shrubs, ornamental grasses, trees, patio gear, etc. The staff is very knowledgeable, and willing to answer any question you have...except. Except when I asked for the Wi-Fi password for the guest access, they claimed that they did not know the password, or that it wasn't working. Hmmm, there was a strong signal on both the private and guest WiFi, so that answer didn't sit well with me at all. I'll deduct a star for that. BUYER BEWARE!! Last year we hired Culver's for our backyard landscaping. It was not a small project, and why we went with what we thought was the best company around and paid a PREMIUM for the work. A month after we noticed water was not draining off half the yard, it just sits there going nowhere creating a huge muddy mess making the yard completely unusable. We were told it's our problem and the job is to extensive for Culver's to fix and we would have to hire someone else. This is after spending nearly 33k on our project. After several months and attempts to get the owner to come inspect their work we have yet to hear from anyone. I guess putting in drainage tile is to extensive of a job for a landscaping company. I expected better customer service after giving them our business. read more

I am a sucker for nurseries and this one does not fail to disappoint. Wander around to the side to view their koi pond and garden. Beautifully landscaped with inspiration galore. Their gift shop has all types of lawn ornaments and accessories for inside/outside planters. For the fairy gardener, there's a whole section devoted to these miniature creations. There was a plethora of inside/outside plants and flowers, water plants, and trees. I could literally spend hours walking up and down the aisles admiring the gorgeous colors. read more

Culvers is a staple in Marion and ive been going for years. Its the largest selection of plants in Cedar Rapids and its locally owned. The gift shop is always stocked and they have far more than just garden related items. read more

I returned a tree because it was 100.00 more expensive (almost double)than the same tree at another Marion garden center. Retail price at both centers. I ended up buying a much larger balled and bur-lapped tree for the same price as one in a 2.5 gallon pot. For the return I was only allowed to get store credit so I thought I would wait until the overpriced pots went on sale. Come to find out they never go on sale but if you get a calendar from the previous year there is a small time frame with a coupon. I went to but some annual plants and was told I could not use my credit on anything but trees and shrubs. That is ridiculous to not be able to buy what I want with the credit. I will never shop there again and will try and sell my 249.00 credit to someone at a discount. read more

Great selection! Awesome place, all year round.

This is a pretty darned good place to shop for plants -- worth a side trip north from Route 30 through Cedar Rapids. First of all, it's huge -- a complex of several greenhouses, outdoor holding areas, and a gift shop. There is a large selection of balled trees, mostly very good sized, and they all looked healthy. In fact, all the nursery stock looked healthy, attractive and well-cared for. Shrubs were organized by type (viburnums, roses, ninebark, etc.), with clear easy-to-see signage. The selection of bedding plants and annuals was extensive. Really the place just went on and on. I would have liked to see more call-out of natives; they seemed to be mixed in with everything and not easy to identify. Prices were on the high side, no real bargains, at least at this time of year but the quality and selection were so good it's hard to quibble. The staff were great - friendly, knowledgeable and quick to help with advice or just to offer another box to hold more plants when my shopping cart got too full. read more

Had a rep come out to look at a project and was told I would have an estimate the following week. Been a full month and have heard nothing even after a call asking about it. Clearly no followup. I get that it's the busy season, but having been in the service industry for 30 years, I know a 30 second phone goes a long way. Will never buy so much as a petunia there again. So it's been a few months since I've purchased and planted all of my flowers for the season. The flowers from Culver's absolutely take the cake. I purchased flowers from here and Lowe's, and while the flowers from Lowe's are looking limp and struggling to survive, the flowers from Culver's look absolutely gorgeous, full and healthy. I will definitely be purchasing ALL of my flowers from Culver's next season. It might cost a little extra, but the difference in quality is undeniable. read more

For the last 3 years I have purchased bulk red mulch from Culvers. This year I started noticing black dots all over my windows and siding. At first it was just a few here and there and I kept trying to wipe them off and had to use a razorblade to clean the spots off the windows. I figured it was some type of bug until one day I went outside and noticed probably somewhere around 1000 black dots all over the house including the soffit (upside down). After some research on google I found my answer from an extensive Penn State University Article. Artillery fungus. This type of fungus is something of a microscopic fungus that shoots its spores with such furiousity that it can end up as high as the top story of a two story house. There is no known way to kill it, not bleach, not round up, NOTHING!! I called Culvers and spoke to a lady in charge of the landscaping section and informed her of my issue. I told her I wasn't going to get irate, I don't imagine Culver's knowingly bought and sold mulch with this stuff in it. She stated that she had never heard of it. I told her I could prove that I purchased the mulch from Culvers and I would invite anyone from Culvers to my house to prove this along with pictures. She told me should speak with the owner and get back to me. The next day I got a call back from the owner who I informed that I wasn't going to get all irate on him, nor was I going to sue him, I wasn't asking for siding replacement, I wasn't asking for anything other that I felt that I paid good money for a product that was defective and caused my home damage and was going to cost me even more money to pull up all the mulch and replace with river rock because I don't trust mulch anymore. He kept going around in circles about how the year has been weird weather and how he even had some sort of fungus on his mulch at his home. I asked...does it shoot spores all over your home? He said it did not. I told him I can't have this mulch doing this and asked kindly if he would in the name of good business practice and customer service either refund my money, replace the product, or give me a gift card so I could purchase river rock from Culver's. He changed the subject and kept trying to talk about the weather this year etc. I reminded him that I was pretty much a subject matter expert on artillery fungus by now and it was me that sent the article to him. Finally I had enough, he wasn't going to budge on doing the right thing and I had to tear out the mulch, so far over 5 big trash cans and more to come as well as the cost of replacing with river rock. The worst service in all of Eastern Iowa. They mowed down my front lawn last Fall. During the mowing process, they damaged/clipped a cap on a water pipe. They refused to pay for the damage because they said that they could not see it! They have mowed the same front yard in the past without incident. Do your self a favor and call someone else! read more
