The owner, Rich, gave me a tour of the restoration building, and then let me try as many pianos on both floors as I wanted.

I had an outstanding experience purchasing my 1992 Yamaha G5 grand piano from Piotr. From start to…read morefinish, this was easily one of the best buying experiences I've ever had. Piotr personally restored the piano himself--installing new strings, new tuning pins, full regulation, and hammer voicing--and the result is incredible. The piano has a rich, powerful tone and a responsive, even action that easily meets the demands of advanced repertoire. As someone who used to play at a virtuoso competition level, I was very particular about touch and control, and this instrument absolutely delivers. What really set Piotr apart was his dedication and transparency. He patiently answered all of my questions, sent multiple detailed videos, and even shared a magnificent performance of Chopin's Fantaisie played by his wife so I could hear the piano's full expressive range. That level of care gave me complete confidence before purchasing without being able to see or play the piano in person. Delivery was just as impressive--Piotr handled everything himself and safely delivered the grand piano to my home. It's rare to find someone who can truly do it all: piano restoration, regulation, voicing, and delivery, all at a high level. I grew up playing only Yamaha uprights and always dreamed of owning a grand piano. Thanks to Piotr, that dream is now a reality. He's not just a seller--he's a true piano technician and pianist who genuinely cares about matching the right instrument to the right player. You can tell he's passionate about his craft and takes pride in every piano he works on. If you're looking for a high-quality restored piano, I highly recommend reaching out to Piotr. This was a seamless, professional, and genuinely enjoyable experience.

I had been on the lookout for my dream piano, a Steinway B, and thought it wasn't doable. Then a friend from NYC recommended I connect with Piotr in Philedelphia. I was very nervous about a piano purchase from Philly, as I am in Boston. I had to play it to see if I loved it, because it's a life investment. Piotr told me what was done to this Steinway A3. Pin block ten years old, strings 10 years, and the rest fully restored by him, using genuine Steinway parts. Well, I said what if I don't connect with it? Your gonna take it back? He said yes, so I agreed. He drove here, set it up, I played it for hours, and then said I loved it. He took my K Kawai in trade, and there you have it. He fully guaranteed it his work. Don't know what drives this person, but he is quality like I've NEVER seen. I could not recommend Piotr and Opus piano more. Go there! Only there! They are old world quality, and connection. It doesn't exist anymore, yet, I was lucky enough to find them. Now I have my last and final piano. My Steinway A3, not a B but just as good in my opinion... I have had the piano for about 2 and a half months, and it's amazing... He was right. I loved it. Thanks Piotr

After my partner bought a Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute bass at Russo Music earlier this year, I…read moreheard so much from him about how this was 'one of the best shops on the east coast.' Recently I got the chance to check it out in person when we stopped in to browse two Saturdays ago during a day trip to Philly. It's located on the same block/in the same building as Union Transfer, the music venue. The music store has two floors. The main floor/street-level floor showcases electric guitars, basses, and some synthesizers. The second floor has acoustic instruments - guitars, basses, ukuleles, and I think I even saw a mandolin. The repair service area/shop is also upstairs. I remember the big beautiful windows that let in natural light in the space, and rugs and couches to sit on the second floor. The people working there were friendly and ask if you want to try out any of the instruments. You'll see bowls with "Russo" picks here and there too. It's a cool instrument shop. Really high quality instruments there, and nicer than the inventory at a GC. One apparent difference is that the instruments on display at Russo are adjusted and ready to play, in contrast to a big box music/gear store where instruments are mounted straight out of the manufacturer box. It's an easier/better experience for the customer figuring if they like what's in their hands at Russo. And even though it's a boutique store, it has a larger inventory than you would expect. An aces shop, highly recommended!

Any alternative to G Center is a blessing…read more.. Situated as a neighbor to Union Transfer, it makes the 1K block of Spring Garden St. quite the musical destination. First, I dig the shoppe. The walls are festooned with (mainly) guitars, but a few gorgeous basses (for the bassists among us) pepper the collection. A pink 60s P bass is the pick of the current litter. I, however, just needed strings for my '76 Mustang, and my tech guru suggested I stop at Russo's before dropping off the ax for a tune-up. Glad I did. Prices and inventory are about average...but certainly competitive. Solid B. Being primarily a pianist, I can't dole out an A, as they had nothing that might draw my business regarding my primary instrument. But, no matter. Where Russo's really excels is in its staff, imho. From a phone conversation with a gal who put my (very specific) strings aside, to girl behind the counter...all just as pleasant as you please. We talked basses, performing, and teaching for a brief moment, before the rigors of the day pulled me in other directions; but only after being fortified by some solid conversational vibes. Don't order your stuff online. Def. don't go to G.C. Spend the extra fiver and keep places like Russo's open. See ya there, maybe.

John's method is comprehensive and he explains what the process is every step of the way. It definitely seemed a bit unusual to me at first, because I hadn't heard singers do exercises like his before, but the results were undeniable. The improvement was noticeable right away, but the results only got better with time. It's worth it to stick with it for a long time to get the most out of it. His "voice-building" technique really works on a fundamental level, completely building great technique from the ground up. My projection, dynamics, pitch, breathing, sustain, and overall technique had a dramatic transformation for the better. I also didn't realize just how much it was possible to increase vocal range, but John's method will dramatically increase range. I can now consistently hit notes that I didn't think I was capable of before. I really can't imagine that you'd get these kinds of results from just any old vocal instructor. I did lessons for two years and consistently improved. The only reason I stopped doing lessons with him was because I moved away, otherwise I'd likely have continued for quite awhile. Highly recommended.
