If you are looking for your traditional classic tea place, this is it. Walking in is like walking into Alice in Wonderland and the mad Hatter's tea party. The decorations is just out of this world. It's all flowery!! They have a very nice selection of teas that thy also sell. There is food for breakfast and lunch and of course also pastries. I did not try the pastry, but I had the Galway cream tea and the scone sandwich with soup of the day. The soup was delicious and the sandwich was good, but I would try something else next time. The tea was very yummy, but kind of a classic black tea. I would come in here any day just to get away from the cold and snack on some pastry and tea. I don't know if they'll have this for long or it's a temporary special, but they had a pot of tea and scones (or maybe sandwich) for two at 12€. read more

A very lovely place to sip on a cup of tea and watch people walk by. They know their tea! With a name like Cupan Tae, they better. Large selection of teas. Everything is served on cute china. Just a very relaxed vibe here with 1920's music playing in the background. They do have a little shop area that you can buy lose leaf teas, preserves and merchandise. International travelers note: they do ship internationally if you are running out of space in your luggage, which I thought was really handy. The service was excellent, and the waitress made great recommendations. If you're in Galway this should be on your list to stop by. read more

Adorable, and the scones and tea were wonderful. We opted for the Creamy Dreamy Galway Tea at the recommendation of the hostess, and it made for a lovely way to relax for the afternoon. The scones were very good, and service was great! Clumsy people please note that there is a lot of fragile china around to worry about bumping into, but the overall atmosphere is very quaint and we managed to not knock anything over... :) It did make for a memorable experience, and I liked it enough to try out their sister store in Galway - but scones in Westport were far better! read more

We chose this place based on other reviews and the menu listed on the website. We got the afternoon tea for 25 euros, it was a BARGAIN. Other places charge much more for much less. We got 2 different pots of tea, sandwiches, scones, jam, clotted cream, butter, pastries and brown bread. The food was delicious, unique, and inventive and as a foodie it was an incredible experience. The shop was lovely and adorable, lots of tea and tea accessories for sale and a cute and cozy atmosphere on a rainy Galway day. The staff was knowledgable and very kind and thoughtful. Can't praise this place enough, we decided we needed to get afternoon tea in Ireland and this place was absolutely perfect. Spent a few good hours and left very full and happy. read more

I absolutely loved our visit to Cupan Tea! I felt like a little girl living out her tea party fantasy! DH and I stopped in for a cuppa and a scone while exploring Galway after reading all the amazing yelp reviews and boy were we not disappointed! It's so beautifully and daintily decorated, the service was kind and welcoming, and the scones and tea were delicious and presented and served so beautifully! When I was in Galway 4 years ago my tea-loving friend and I popped in for afternoon tea. To me it was a picture perfect Irish Tea Shoppe with a display of pastries and beautiful tea pots and cups. We loved the experience. When I found myself back in Galway I had to stop in. The tea and scones were delicious but that cozy perfect tea shop feeling was gone for me because the entry was set up to sell bags of tea. I totally understand it from a marketing standpoint but I was a bit disappointed. I still recommend going in for a cuppa. It is a lovely shoppe and the staff are friendly. read more

Cupan Tae caught my fiancée's eye the previous day on our trip to Galway. We decided in the morning that it would make a great breakfast place. Having missed the breakfast window at our hotel, we were pleasantly surprised to find the breakfast menu still going at 11:30. For teas, I had the Elixir of Life and she had the Blood Orange which had hibicus mint. While they were steeping, our salmon plates arrived. It is rare when she compliments scrambled eggs, but they got a very favorable mention. The poached egg on my plate was quite good, too. Our smoked salmon was accompanied by steamed spinach which mixed well together. Apart from the food, teas, and jams available, Cupan Tae is an atmosphere win. The staff is dedicated and friendly which seems to be an extension of the owner's passion for running her business. The owner stopped by to every table briefly and answered questions for those who had them. It's a cozy place but comfortable and contains a store for taking teas, jams, and tins home. We purchased a few souvenirs to remember our visit. For Austinites, this is a Gaelic Steeping Room ornately decorated with high quality fare. It seems like something you'd find in Irish Salado or Fredericksburg. read more

Not much of a tea drinker myself, but my wife is and she and my daughter were thrilled with the options and the lovely quaint shop. We inadvertently forgot a jacket detachable hood on our table when we left (shop and town). Called later and the folks were holding it for us and were willing to mail back to us in the States without charge or qualm. Hood and jacket have been reunited and only adds another positive experience w/ our wonderful Ireland vacation. read more

Super cute spot with friendly staff. They have a front section of tables for a pot of tea and a snack. There's a shop around the back to smell test and buy bags of their tea and tea accessories. The shabby chic drew me in, unfortunately the waitresses spent their time checking out the notifications coming in via their mobile phones and when my scone was delivered it was rock hard, according to the owner, this was because the chef was baking bread at the time ... Cupán Tae is easily the most quant, dainty and delicious teashop I've visited in Ireland. The teas and coffees are lovely, as are the sandwiches and freshly baked scones with cream and homemade raspberry jam. My favorite sandwich is the rosemary scone one, with fillings that seem to change slightly each time I order it. The Galway Cream Tea is especially nice and I've always enjoyed their mochas, too. High tea comes served on a three-tiered platter with your choice of tea sandwiches, scone, and small bites of dessert. The food and drinks, coupled with the cute interior that's decorated with all the lacy and crocheted things you can imagine, makes for the perfect Irish afternoon tea experience. read more

It goes without saying that Cupan Tae is delicious, cute, and a delightful afternoon respite. But what urged me to rate an already highly-rated place was what happened when I, the foolish traveler I am, happened to leave my wallet and passport sitting on my chair when leaving. No more than two minutes after exiting the establishment and walking towards my hotel, I hear someone SPRINTING IN HEELS down the cobblestones shouting, "Ma'am, ma'am!" waving my little bag. Major props to such an attentive staff of an already well-established, wonderful business that saved me from what could have been a major heart attack. I hope to be back someday. :) read more
