The 7 platforms are quite spread out so allow yourself a few minutes for navigation across bridges if you're unfamiliar with the station. Toilets are clean and beyond the barriers so you can leave it right up until the last minute to go - good if you're setting out on a long train journey and would prefer not to have to go on the train. (I don't often mind but as a solo traveller today I'd prefer not to have to haul all my stuff with me to the toilet, and asking someone to get up to let me out.) There's a small kiosk where you can buy snacks - this is before the barriers. Clearly identifiable recycling bins. The departure board can be seen clearly as soon as you walk in the main entrance, you don't have to go hunting for it. I've heard the car park is quite tiny for the amount of footfall this station gets but as a non-driver that's unlikely to affect me. As far as train stations go I'm quite happy with it.

Kirkcaldy train station had become pretty run down over the years but it has seen some big…read morealterations since then and it is looking its best these days. The new ticketing system has made the place safer too because you now need a ticket to produce before you even get through to the track edge and near the trains, this also stops people form getting on the trains then not paying. The kiosk has seen an overhaul too and is now bigger and stocks much more magazines, sweets and drinks for your trip. A great way to travel and a great station to depart from!

There are no trains really in this neck of the woods, and so being car-less…read moreduring the day (and quite frankly petrified of driving these country roads) I am now finding myself completely at the mercy of the buses. Now, buses and I traditionally do not have a good relationship - I get super sick on them (for all you West of Scotland locals - I can't even get the X1 from Hamilton to Glasgow which goes directly on the motorway without having to get out as soon as we can stop - way before the cathedral I am up and waiting to be let off - anyway,,,) so I am now stuck with the prospect of bus journeys on little windy roads - not so much fun. The good : The express buses are more like coaches, they have plug points and wi-fi (great if I could bear to look at my phone and surf without hurling..!). They are pretty clean and are comfy. They generally do run on time and St Andrews bus station is nice. It only costs £3.50 single for a trip to Elie - 45 ish minutes and £6.50 for a day ticket anywhere in Fife. The bad: The frequency blows - one express an hour from St Andrews to Glasgow via Leven, Anstruther, Elie etc. Then there is this random dead time around 3-5 when all the buses are off as they are doing school runs...:-( Secondly, the non-express takes about 2 hours to do a trip that takes 30 mins in the car. The express does still take 45 mins, but it's much better than 2 hours. The ugly: Generally how l look after the journey from St Andrews - somewhat green methinks!

So as I was walking about Kirkcaldy, I thought that I would pay the newly refurbished bus station a visit. And after wandering about it for a while I decided that it looked pretty good. It's in a great location, with it being less than a minutes walk from the high street and main shopping centres! It has new bus shelters with updated digital notices on buses, very helpful indeed. Also, the main bus station building has been upgraded with a seating area, a shop and a small cafe, which does teas, snacks and sandwiches. The station has been given a breath of fresh air and has been reinvigorated for the twenty first century!

Kirkcaldy`s bus station used to be an eye sore as it had become very run down over the years. It…read morehas had a major revamp in recent times and now takes pride of place opposite the town house. The new bus station has a very modern feel to it and it also has a nice cafe to relax in whilst waiting to travel rather than the horrible old cafe that used to look and feel very gruby. The revamp to this station took a lot longer than thought with the first contractors going bust in the middle of the job but now it is done it looks and feels a much better place.

Small but efficient loacl airport…read more I have flown to Belfast several times from Dundee and I cannot fault it. Check in was quick and easy. The departure lounge is clean and comfortable. More intimate and personal than the international airports. Dundee Airport and it's staff is an asset to the local area but it really is in need of expansion. Most flights are quite expensive hopefully expansionwill bring lowerprices.

I have stayed at Cambo about 5 times now with my friend, it is such a beautiful place. We stay in…read morethe apartments that you can rent - they are very spacious and nicely decorated. You get to live in a mansion for a week! The surrounding area is so beautiful. You can stroll through the forest down to the beach, have a game of golf, look around the beautiful gardens that Mrs Erskine tends to, visit the pigs or explore the surrounding area such as St. Andrews, Pittenweem or Anstruther.
