It is staffed pretty much all the time and has two large buildings either side of the tracks, with a underground corridor that connects the two! The one on the side of the line that runs south is the main building with a glass roof. It has a ticket office as well as a good sized waiting room area upstairs. This is the more modern building, and was built to accommodate the amount of people using the station. There is also a large car park, so don't worry you will not need to park your car on some dodgy street when you are away!

As I am and elderly lady, not very savvy with ticket machines I went to the counter with my details and Credit Card. The ticket man shouted "Next" and I went up to the counter. Without me even getting to ask anything he said "Thurs a ticket machine ower thur". I meekly went back over to the machine where a young girl was able to assist me and retrieve my tickets. I thanked her for her help. SO KIRKCALDY RAIL STAFF WOILD GET A ZERO RATING ON TRIPADVISER. I am a member of TRIPADVISER. A little politeness at the station would be recommended. There's a small waiting room posted in between the main entrance and the restrooms. They have the usual pamphlets and such for those visiting the area. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the station itself. We were on a tight timeline to walk to Belhaven, and when we returned, we slipped in the front door and kept walking right onto the outbound train. We did stop long enough to notice that it's a clean station, and that the employees we encountered were friendly and helpful for those who had questions along the way.

So as I was walking about Kirkcaldy, I thought that I would pay the newly refurbished bus station a visit. And after wandering about it for a while I decided that it looked pretty good. It's in a great location, with it being less than a minutes walk from the high street and main shopping centres! It has new bus shelters with updated digital notices on buses, very helpful indeed. Also, the main bus station building has been upgraded with a seating area, a shop and a small cafe, which does teas, snacks and sandwiches. The station has been given a breath of fresh air and has been reinvigorated for the twenty first century!

The new bus station has a very modern feel to it and it also has a nice cafe to relax in whilst waiting to travel rather than the horrible old cafe that used to look and feel very gruby. The revamp to this station took a lot longer than thought with the first contractors going bust in the middle of the job but now it is done it looks and feels a much better place.

There is no disabled access and the platform is a lot lower than any train station that l have ever seen so caution when boarding or exiting the train. At the end of the road there is no taxi rank, l did observe a bus stop but the busses don't run that frequent.

There…read moreare platforms in either direction and a small waiting room for those like me on my last trip who had missed the train to Edinburgh by one minute since the bus from St Andrews wasn't timed properly to get us there for the train. Therefore, I had to wait 30 min for the next train, which them proceeded to be a slow 1 1/2 hour train to Edinburgh instead of the 50 minute train. Sad day! I was waylaid at the Leuchars station like a beached whale unable to do anything. In short, it's rediculous that St Andrews doesn't have its own station and the Leuchars station is a rather pathetic one.
