I found this business a real disappointment. They are not pretending to be a specialty coffee roaster but they could learn a few tricks from the Speciality Coffee Association, an organization I was a member of during my competition judging years. My giving of only two points is carefully thought out with the following reasons given: 1. They are not wheelchair accessible, which precludes me visiting on my own. 2. No light roast coffee. I was told they were out of Yrgacheffe. They have many beans that would shine with a light roast, like the Harrar Longberry, which I will comment on lower down. Think outside the box instead of pigeon holing yourself into routines. 3. They do not sell a traditional cappuccino in a 6 oz cup that goes way back to the dawn of the beverage in the early 20th Century in Italy. An 8oz produces a drink with not enough coffee to milk ratio. 4. It may be just an out of stock issue, however with no product shortages in the market, the selection of handgrinders is basic entry level at best. Nothing with high carbon stainless conical burrs could be found, just lots of ceramic porlex which is a good grinder but far far from being great. For a few dollars more, a Timemore Chestnut will give a much superior and even grind. 5. One pound bags are too big for the single coffee drinker, which is their smallest available purchase, even though the beans are bulk, which in itself is disappointing. An opened bag of freshly roasted coffee has peak quality life of 5 to 7 days. One pound is a lot of coffee to consume in those time constraints. Offer smaller too, such as 1/2 pound, the industry standard sample order size. 6. I asked when the beans were roasted. I was told usually no more than two weeks ago. OMG, beans in the open air for two weeks would be way beyond their prime. If all you sell is one pound bags, bag the coffee when it cools after roasting. They have bags with CO2 escape valves. In the bag it will last for months. In the open air, 7 days max. 7. The medium roasted Harrar Longberry was roasted darker than what would be considered a full medium roast. Close to half of the beans had reached the second crack, thereby taking them out of the medium category. A full medium, using the Speciality Coffee Association and Q Grading standards, is moments before the second crack with no to just a hint of oil on the bean. This bean was medium dark. At this level of roast, the nuances of the legendary Harrar have disappeared. The winey fruity flavour profile which has coffee aficionados addicted were gone, roasted out. I find it hard to understand why this is considered Lethbridge's finest coffee shope. I cringe at the thought of what I am going to experience elsewhere in town. read more

This place came highly recommended to me by several locals, so I knew it was worth checking out. A wide and eclectic mix of coffee gear and knicknacks met me as I walked in the door. It was almost as much of a fun variety shop as it was a coffee shop. There were multiple varieties of beans for sale, all fresh roasted. There was no cupping information, which was annoying, but the lady there seemed to be able to quote it all off by heart, which was nice. You could smell the beans, and she even took us over to try a small sample of the coffees they were serving that day. I'm a little tossed up about the actual coffee I ordered. It was served with a little snowflake sticker over the mouth of the lid to keep it from spilling. Which was fine except it left a sticky residue. My friend and I ordered Americanos. His was so over full it was spilling over the sides before we even left the shop. Both our Americanos were overheated, but thankfully that doesn't ruin the drink. Despite these minor things, the espresso in there was absolutely delicious. A flavourful, tasty, smooth shot. Great coffee here, worth grabbing. And a fun little shop to browse. For five stars, it would take more professional cupping and serving and the inclusion of pour overs rather than the vacuum pots they keep their coffee in. I noticed they sold aeropresses in the store, but didn't serve coffee brewed from one. They need either an aeropress or V60 fro fresh coffee behind the counter. read more

This amazing place could hold its own in any big city. Not only do they brew a great coffee; they also sell an impressive range of gear for anyone who's serious about coffee or tea--including a good many items I've seen nowhere else. A roastery in the back supplies local restaurants. Speaking of which, there's no food here except chocolate. It's all coffee and tea all the time at Cupper's, and that is its strength. read more
