To our great delight, we found that there had been 12 prior and that this year would be celebrating the 13th one! We mosied on down on a Saturday afternoon, with some friends in tow. We found an amazing meeting of some of the most delicious Mexican food we've had since time started. The event is held a long one of the main streets in downtown Wapato and encompassed about three blocks worth of real estate. The different stands where everything from local favorites, two food trucks, two people making tamales as part of fundraisers for different organizations. Many of the places also served street style tacos, Indian tacos and one guy was even roasting some boss looking chicken One of the stands with selling a number of different beverages including Horchata, strawberry lemonade and a number of different juices, each one of which we sampled was delicious. I'll food items range between a dollar and five dollars, with most of them being in $1.50 range. Everything we had here was good and it was really nice to be able to move around from stand to stand, sampling the different tamales. By the end of the afternoon we doll eaten roughly the Weight of one of our arms in tamales, and it was so good! The DJ that was in the center of the festival did a great job keeping things lightly, and while we didn't stay for the voting, I believe there was a best of show type event. The only thing that would make this better is if there were a king or queen of tamales crowned, and it included any and everyone from the community. Based on the offerings that were available, I would imagine that the stuff that people make at home in the area is absolutely mind blowing. Well worth checking out in something that we will be planning on going to on a yearly basis!

They…read moreare located in a beautiful spot, with a perfect view of the rest of the valley and Mt Adams, with gorgeous grounds, great wine, and a lot of features that just make it a nice place to visit. We came for a visit around lunchtime on Sunday, and were promptly seated with menus in a nicely shaded spot outdoors. You can truly spend a ton of time here just enjoying the view from the many shaded comfy seating areas outdoors, where you can admire the impeccable landscaping or the landscape itself. It did take a while for someone to come take our order, and we ended up having to wave someone down. If we weren't so hungry we probably wouldn't have been bothered by this at all, given that it's such a pleasant setting. After that, the pace of service was very good and we felt well attended to. We got the taste of treveri flight, a flatbread, a mezze platter, and the cajun fries. It seems based on my last review quite a few years ago that tastings were free then. That is not the case anymore, and most of the flights cost $20. If you buy two bottles of wine, then the tasting fee is waived I think for up to two tastings. Anyway, the flight was great, with a nice variety of sparkling wines that really showcased their range. Our favorites were the blanc to blanc and the syrah. The food was also pretty good, and I appreciated that they actually had substantial food here. I don't know how people manage to go wine tasting and then drive to their next spot without eating a real meal. My husband enjoyed the seasonal flatbread, which featured apples and walnuts. The cajun fries were solid. The chicken skewers and gyro type meat on the mezze platter were quite flavorful and juicy! I liked the variety of vegetables on the platter, although the olives could've definitely been better--they seemed like they'd been sitting in a jar for a while and had lost a lot of their texture. Keep in mind that prices for food here are definitely higher than you might see at a regular restaurant. The flatbread which was approximately the size of a six inch pizza, was $20, and the mezze platter was $35. Wouldn't pay those prices regularly, but since you can't bring in outside food, it's part of the experience here and I would say is worthwhile during a visit.

We came over for the Christmas extravaganza that goes on the last weekend in November and the first…read morethree weekends in December. The museum is re-outfitted with Christmas garb and the train out front transport you, if desired, to Santas workshop about 500 yards up the way in another train car. Entrance, at least for the Christmas themed stuff, was eight dollars per adult and five dollars per kid. That ended up including cookies and hot chocolate (donate if you desire) and a train ride over to Santas workshop, in addition to all the train exhibits. It initially feels a bit steep, but you end up spending a couple hours there and it was well worth the expense. The place is run by Community volunteers which included folks in high school as well as older train enthusiast. It's nice to see the melding of generations in a place like this. There were a total of five or six rooms that had train sets of varying sizes. One out front included a Thomas the train type setup and the one in the back included cars that were about a foot tall. The set up on these things were pretty impressive and the guys there genuinely seemed like they enjoy putting it on. It's got a better than average gift shop here as well. Plenty of train toys, books and other railroad related pleasantries. The train ride was a fun and fairly unique experience. The train only went about a quarter of a mile, but it was fun for the kids to get to ride in a legit train car. On the way back, we rode in a caboose with some seats that were up above the normal sitting area. Made for a little bit better view and a reminiscing tale for the kiddos. All in all, this place is really solid. It's not huge, but they've got some neat exhibits and it's filled with people who are excited about the place.it's also a great excuse to come down to the lower Valley, hit up a tourist attraction, including the national hop museum across the street, and go check out a restaurant in the area.
