It's a small,…read morebut mighty independent bookstore that has everything neatly organized and a decent selection of books in each category despite the size. I purchased a book that's been on my to-read list for some time (Nightbitch) and a new book that I've never heard of before, but was very intrigued by (Strange Pictures). Knocking 1 star off because there is a very bad odor, like something is wrong with the plumbing, inside the whole shop and it cut my visit way shorter than I had planned because I couldn't stand breathing it in any longer.

I love Tomorrow Bookstore. It's a small but mighty shop run by kind people. They host book clubs…read morefor fiction and non-fiction books, bring in local authors for signings on weekends, have art and literary pop ups, and do ticketed author events. Their collection blends books and zines you haven't heard of yet with popular titles you often see and ones in between. They have a good range for different ages, too, with a nice young adult section, children's books, and middle grade as well as the plentiful shelves for adults. There's a local author shelf and there's a fun mix of local talent there in a variety of genres and age categories--plus sometimes, signed copies. They do carry some gift items like candles, and their custom stickers and apparel make me smile. The little book guys are fun! Tomorrow is well worth a stop if you're downtown. Whether you're wanting a book haul or supporting local with a sticker purchase, you'll find something here. Parking on Mass Ave is metered, but free on Sundays! There's also a parking garage nearby, and if you don't mind a walk, you may find some of the limited free street parking.

This is THE BEST place to get your books if you are an IUPUI student. I know, most of you kids use…read morethe interwebs with the interconnected tubes to buy your books these days, but if you want to actually SEE the used book you are buying and make sure you're not getting a copy in horrible condition, then go HERE. The prices are much lower than the B&N on campus and the staff is wonderful. They know tons about the classes and the books, and if you actually need the "suggested" supplementary book or not, and will often cut you a deal on them if you ask. It's also easier and free-er to park here than at Campus Center, and if you are a procrastinator they seem to always have the books that B&N sold out of, and you can't wait to get it sent if you ordered online. They also sell school supplies and are the only place near campus that sells cigarettes.

There's a wonderful mural that was created by the Art Department from Carmel High School. The mural…read moreis located just off Main Street in Carmel and was created in 2007. The mural is entitled "Cityscape" and depicts images from the the Art District with some modern twists. I was touched to see faculty and students given the opportunity to express their creativity in their community. The names of the artists are listed on the south end of the mural. The mural is slightly faded with age. There is a small, lovely garden with benches at the base of the mural with a plaque that honors donors.

I usually shop at the store on Mass Ave, but I was in Carmel, so decided to check it out. The clerks were busy stocking shelves for Christmas when we entered, but welcomed us with big smiles. The shop seems a bit smaller that their other location, but still carries most of the same merchandise. They are known for their silver jewelry by various artists. Currently, they are featuring charm necklaces. An Indiana theme runs throughout the store with everything from Indiana necklaces to Indiana kitchen towels. It's a great place to pick up a gift with candles, art and even some local foods. I even saw a few toys and puzzles today for the kids. I was looking for a funny card and they have a small selection of cards but they were somewhat inappropriate to give a daughter. But they do have lots of crazy socks. There is street parking or parking behind the building.

Whenever I am out and about for First Fridays, I always seemed to make it to Gallery 924. The…read moregallery is located in the same building as the Indy Arts Council and The Cabaret. They tend to have the most variety of artworks whenever they have exhibitions, and they are very good about showcasing artists from different backgrounds. Their most popular show is probably their holiday exhibition called Tiny. As the name suggests, the artworks are smaller in scale and are for sale at approachable price points. They make for good stocking stuffers during the holiday season.

I had the opportunity to check out Gallery 924 yesterday while at the adjacent venue The Cabaret…read more Established in 2010, Gallery 924 is a non-profit art gallery sharing space with The Cabaret and the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Gallery 924 provides a mixture of programming highlighting contemporary Central Indiana artists in curated solo and group shows. The current exhibition is Dehaan Artist of Distinction Group Exhibition that is running from Sept. 3 - October 29, 2021. Included artists are painter Mason Archie, photographer Eric Lubrick, multidisciplinary artist Samuel Levi Jones, and papel picado inspired artist Beatriz Vazquez. This is a relatively small but inviting space that's open 10am-4pm from Tuesday-Friday and by appointment. They are following CDC guidelines and recommendations. The gallery offers free parking across the street in the Lucille Raines parking lot. There's also metered parking along Pennsylvania. Occasionally, you can get lucky and find free spots along 9th Street. The gallery is also on an IndyGo route and it's adjacent to Indy's Cultural Trail. On a budget of less than $2,000 annually, Gallery 924 puts on 10 exhibitions annually empowering mid-career and established artists. The gallery is a participant in the Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealer's Association First Friday Art Tour. Even when the gallery doors are closed, Gallery 924 is working to promote Central Indiana's artists. I honestly loved this little space. It's not the fanciest gallery you'll find, but the energy is positive and the love for artists is obvious. I look forward to returning.

I have been a fan of the Harrison Center for several years now after taking a walking tour of the…read morefacility. So, when I heard they had a pop-up shop for items, mostly made by artists at the Center, I made plans to attend. Located at 15th and Delaware, the Harrison Center consists of three buildings (including a gym and a church!). There is convenient parking in their lot accessible from 15th or 16th to the east of the Center. The pop-up shop is located in the City Gallery which is located on the west side of the southern most building. You may have to use the intercom to have them "buzz you in", but the wait is usually very brief. The shop/gallery is located on your left as you enter. There were a wide variety of items available though the shop is small. I saw ornaments, jewelry, and scarves. Soaps and postcards too! I also bought a calendar, a "paper doll" book that is more of a behind the scenes look at the Center than a real paper doll book. I also grabbed some coloring books and post cards. All that I picked up were affordable and reasonably priced. Truly unique too. The pop-up runs Monday-Friday through Dec 24th. Hours are from 9 to 5. What you really have here are local folks designing and printing shirts, stickers, magnets, mugs, and a variety of other products all with an Indiana theme. Somehow, I'd missed the fact that they'd opened a storefront in SoBro directly off of East 54th Street in the storefronts next to and behind The Clubhouse. I was in the area today and decided to check out some new businesses. This area tends to have a lot of fluidity in terms of business - not always because of closures, but because businesses also just grow and move on. Every time I'm here, I seem to find something new. United State of Indiana has ramps at both doors - both ramps are really well built. The interior is easy to navigate and is filled with a wealth of shirts, stickers, mugs, posters, magnets and so much more. There's pop culture themes, Indiana and Indy specific themes, political statements, landmarks and a whole lot more. The employee working was super friendly and helpful. I could barely turn any corner without seeing something I wanted to buy for a friend. Truthfully, there's no doubt I'll be back because this stuff is so incredibly well done. I ended up taking home two magnets today - one for the Monon and one with the Indianapolis flag. They're already on my fridge. This is such a terrific shop. I happened to pick up a magnet that had an incorrect price (they recently had to do a bit of an increase - completely reasonable and I'd easily have paid it, but they insisted on honoring the price as it was their mistake). I also loved that they had a wide variety of sizes for t-shirts, hoodies, sweaters, etc. Because of how my body curves with spina bifida and also because of my ostomy, I tend to wear larger clothing. They have it here. Such a delight. United State of Indiana started as an online storefront. That storefront still exists, however, I'm definitely one who loves that in-person experience and I look forward to returning here in the near future. As another accessibility note, while you can park right off East 54th, there's an accessible spot behind The Clubhouse and next to the back entrance of the store. It's where I typically park as it gives the wheelchair lots of room.
