He was telling us about the setup of the store, deals the have and about their trade in policies (which are the states policy and super intense to stop stolen items from being sold. They even do fingerprints). My husband is officially obsessed with this store and if he could live here he would. We had to go back to the hotel to grab a game to trade in and on the way back he said "I love this place. I know we aren't there but I'm going to talk like we are because my soul is there". I have no doubts we will be back. We ended up getting a few different things and we were pleased with everything.

In my last review, I think I complained about being a tired mom with macaroni and cheese stains on my pants. Well, nine years later, I'm still a mom but fortunately less tired, the stains on my pants are from red wine and vegan tzatziki, and the kids I made macaroni and cheese for have grown up and are very interested in music. And they ask me to take them to Luna Music. I'm always happy to oblige. My oldest kid love Luna Music because he can find albums for the bands that he listens to. Bands and artists that are not on my radar at all (Blood Orange? Anyone, anyone? Bueller?), but he loves them, and it makes him happy to find them here in vinyl. Luna has a lot of new music on vinyl. This is the place to visit in Indianapolis if you're looking for any kind of new music. They are on top of it. In fact, I subscribe to their weekly newsletter just to keep abreast of the new music that drops every week. Luna Music keeps me young and able to relate to my children, who have astounding musical taste for their age. Luna skews toward records, but they also have a smaller selection of used CDs, as well as a collection of used cassette tapes that are smaller still. You can also find zines, local artwork, greeting cards, record players and other fun things. The people who work here are super friendly and not at all snobby. There are no Jack-Black-from-High-Fidelity people here!

I'm not a teenage boy (as far as you know), but I also think Disc Replay is quite neat. It has an amazing collection of used video games for a variety of platforms, like Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo DS, Gameboy, Wii, and even games for systems that old heads like me were brought up on, like the original Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. The prices for these used games are suuuuuper good. Like, I was seeing price tags with $1.99 and $3.99 on them. We picked up a Plants vs. Zombies Nintendo DS game for $14.99, which according to my kid was a good price for a game he really wanted. They sell everything from refurbished Meta Quest VR headsets to Tamagotchi, which I didn't even know kids played still! Wow! A blast from the past. That's another thing: If you're a person of a certain age and you want to wax nostalgic about your middle school/high school years to the teenager you brought with you, visit Disc Replay. In the back of the store are aisles and aisles of used DVDs and Blu-Ray movies. My teenager asked me if this is what Blockbuster used to look like. Bless his heart. I said no and patiently described the wonder that was Blockbuster. Kids today just won't ever know; it's a dang shame. But thankfully, physical media is still a thing, and if you want to pick up a DVD copy of You Don't Mess with the Zohan, you can do that here. The people who work at Disc Replay are friendly and know their stuff. They answered our questions, and you can tell they don't only sell video games and movies, but they partake in this culture, too.

When they call me saying my items are ready tell me that if I can't make it there before close, I forfeit the items. This should've been made clear before I dropped the items off. Once I arrive, they tell me we can't take these controllers because of XYZ. Something that very easily could've been communicated over the phone and would've held no issue picking up at a later time. Very poor managed with very poor communication. I've also had friends experience similar issues at the store would not recommend to anyone.

We were in a rush to claim our table at Texas Roadhouse, so we had to do the hard pass on that.

I was looking for a couple of books that they did not have because the books were out of print. The staff is helpful and will search and help find anything you looking for. They carry a really nice collection of STEM toys and LEGO kits. I picked up a flashcard game and several workbooks for my granddaughter. A nice assortment of crafting kits were on sale. There is a Starbucks inside the store if you need a coffee fix or want to sit and read after you shop.

Plus, there is a sweet, old dog named Huckleberry who is in the shop most days with the owner, Ben. When we visited, Huckleberry greeted us with wags and kisses, and showed us his new toy. Ben is another one. He is so nice and friendly, and explained to us the layout of his store and where we could find stuff. (He was so genuinely nice and friendly that I remembered his name, which is a big feat for me, as I almost never remember anyone's name!) Ben knew pretty much everything about all of the magazines he carries. He is very knowledgeable about the industry! You can find everything from Cherry Bombe to Kinfolk to Cereal to The Gentlewoman to Dazed to Garage ... so many art and fashion magazines, and food and lifestyle periodicals. My little magazine-loving heart was truly satisfied. They also carried many books and periodicals illustrated and written by local artists, including Things Organized Neatly. Ben seemed really proud of carrying local work -- he made sure to show us which ones were made by people from Indy.

As you browse through the materials throughout the shop, you never know what subjects you might come across. And many of the publications are of foreign descent. You can easily immerse yourself in a different world just by flipping through the magazines. I think PRINTtEXT might be on to something here. While there are ebooks, blogs, and various types of online content, it's a different feeling to have a hard copy of a book/magazine that you can physically hold on to. I am curious to know what the future holds for the shop. Perhaps they can leverage it as a place to bring people together and have discussions on anything and everything.

I'm pretty stunned that I've never reviewed this location, though I don't frequent it nearly as much since I moved into Lawrence Township. I grew up in Pike Township and this really was my location for many years. In my opinion, it's one of the most accessible of the Indy HPB locations and I've always been pleased with my experiences here. I was in this area checking out His Place Eatery and nostalgia demanded I return for a visit to this HPB. This location has two entrances. Both sides offer accessible parking, though the side facing West 86th Street is definitely more accessible. One side has a double glass doorway, the other has a single glass door. Both sides offer curb cuts, though the side facing West 86th Street has a much easier grade. For those familiar with HPB, there's the consistency you can expect - reasonably priced books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and even some VHS. Books are incredibly well organized and there's always a nicely done clearance section. They also have novelty stuff - like t-shirts, games, etc. The employees here are always friendly - I've had multiple friends work for HPB over the years and they always praise the chain. Most, of course, end up leaving for financial reasons, however, they all remember HPB with a sense of nostalgia. On this visit, I noticed there was a local author doing a book signing. Since I nearly always support local authors, I bought his book. The aisles are always in good shape here. The store is clean. There's a public bathroom that's pretty accessible. Employees are always willing to help. And yes, you can still sell them your used books/CDs/movies. And yes, you still won't get much. I've been to just about every HPB location in Central Indiana. This one has a special place in my heart as I really kind of grew up with it. I guess you could say it's my favorite HPB in Indy. This HPB is well organized, has a wonderful selection, offers friendly and helpful service, and is likely the most accessible HPB in the society. All in all, it's a winner and it sure was nice to get back for a visit.

After the purchase, I discovered that the records I received appear to be counterfeit rather than legitimate releases. I contacted the store to try to resolve the issue, but they refused to provide any type of refund or stand behind the products they sold me. Considering how highly priced many of the items in this store are, I find it unacceptable that a customer can spend their money there, discover there is a serious issue with the authenticity of the merchandise, and then be left with no resolution. At this point, I will be disputing the charge with my bank. The entire situation has been handled very unprofessionally, and based on my experience, I would strongly recommend verifying the authenticity of anything you purchase here before spending your money.

I decided to hang out for a bit this lazy Sunday, and I finally got a chance to make a return visit…read moreto Indy CD & Vinyl, an indie record store with a specialty in vinyl that is easily one of the top, if not the top, in Central Indiana. Officially, Indy CD & Vinyl is Indiana's largest independent record store. They're a member of Coalition of Independent Music Stores and are locally owned, female-owned, latin-owned, and veteran owned. They sell both new and used CDs and vinyl (and i even saw a few 8-tracks, books, and more). They have always been known as supportive of the community and local artists whether buying them outright or selling on consignment. As nearly everyone knows, parking in Broad Ripple is a bit of a clusterf*** these days, though there's street parking (metered) and a few parking lots (paid). Sundays, the meters are free. Accessible parking is around in various lots or at meters, though not directly in front of the store. Broad Ripple Avenue stores are about 50/50 in terms of access, but I'm pleased to report that Indy CD & Vinyl is accessible for the most part. There's two sides to the store - one side with rows and rows of vinyl (and other items) that's narrow but workable. The other side is 808, a sort of in-store performance/event space that also has a variety of other items for sale and a few pinball machines. The people here are friendly and helpful. Rick Zeigler started the store in 1993 in Salt Lake City, though in 2001 he moved to its current spot (NOTE: I'm thinking he didn't call it Indy CD & Vinyl in Salt Lake, but I could be wrong! Ha.). In 2013, Zeigler sold the store to long-time store manager Anne Skinner and her husband. They continue to own it. Indy CD & Vinyl has all genres. I was pleased to see several John Hiatt releases (sadly, no Lilly Hiatt). They also carry turntables, needles, cartridges, accessories, etc. They also have a collectible section for music. I saw a Peanuts endcap that just left me in awe. As near as I can tell, they only purchase used vinyl. Honestly, I'd forgotten how much I love this place. Great vibes, great selection, great service, and just a lot of fun. Because I am a performer, I do have to note that the 808 stage is not wheelchair friendly (sad face), but I'm sticking with the 5-star because, if I'm being honest, far too many stages are not wheelchair friendly. Minor quibble for one of Central Indiana's shining stars.

Indy CD and Vinyl is like the old-school record stores I used to visit in my teens and 20s, oh so…read moremany years ago when I would actually purchase CDs and tapes. Except now, everything old is new again, and this record store actually has more records than anything else. So if you are a record collector, this is your place. They have new and used records, as well as quite a lot of CDs, cassettes, used DVDs, comic books and some records players and headphones for sale. It was my oldest son's idea to visit, because he loves record stores, and is proving to have impeccable taste in music. (He gets it from his mom.) He loves rap and hip-hop the most, and was a little disappointed that there weren't more albums by his favorite artists. I told him that I think album collecting tends to skew more toward rock and pop listeners, and people who listen to rap and hip-hop listen more digitally. That's my theory, but in any case, you should know that the hip-hop section is small. But the rock and pop section is large. This record store is a decent size, and in fact, there's a sign outside that says that they will soon be expanding. My son thought that the store was huge, but bless his ignorant heart: He didn't grow up going to the country's greatest record store, Amoeba Records in Hollywood, like I did. This is no Amoeba, but there's no place like Amoeba, and for a record store in central Indiana, Indy CD and Vinyl is really great. Two neat things about Indy CD and Vinyl: They have video games and pinball machines that you can play at the back of the store (for a couple of quarters). They also have a listening station, where you can scan the barcode of an album and listen to it before you buy it. It wasn't working when we visited, but that's cool that they offer that. No one in my household actually owns a record player, CD player or cassette player, so our visit was merely to look around and imagine the things we would buy if we had analog media players. My son did get a Tyler The Creator poster, though, so he was happy.

Some of my recent fun finds include crochet kits, a planner/organizer that helps with decluttering, and some of my favorite and somewhat expensive chocolates. If you pair the already deeply discounted offerings with saving earned through the rewards program (Ollie's Army), you cannot go wrong! We returned within a few days to gather grass seed, bird seeds and an expandable hose. We always receive great service whether we're strolling in 5 minutes before closing (it happened recently) or in the middle of the day.
