I love independent bookshops. As an avid reader and reviewer on social platforms, I love visiting and highlighting any that I go to. The issue I have with this shop is that it doesn't often have much I'd be looking for. In their popular fiction section, it's almost desolate for any current bestsellers which to be is weird. I read obscure horror books and didn't see much of that except in the YA section. I understand how hard it is to run a business, especially an independent bookshop. BUT.. I feel they need to bring someone in to bring the shop into current times and maybe get some new materials in. A social media presence would also be great to pull in new customers and those customers will bring suggestions. A small coffee area would be cool, a kids section with a few little bookshelves and couches would be awesome. I really don't want to see this shop go away and I'm hoping for an uptick soon! read more

For a place called Curmudgeon there is a lady that works there that is super sweet. Really nice and helpful. Lot's of used inventory. Books, DVD's, Blu Ray's, CD's. There is some Vinyl but it's not priced to move and the condition seems so / so at best but I have gotten some great optical media out of there for a fair price. Nice little place that deserves a walkthrough if you are near Marley Station Mall. read more

This was such a cute find in Marley Station Mall! Marley Station continues to go downhill, but this little gem gives me hope that it can be turned around. All of the items are organized well and easy to find. The record selection wasn't too bad - some prices were better than others. I have been in the store once and I was very pleased that there was a used bookstore in Marley station near my home. Since then I have tried to call them a few times and they do not have a voicemail set up. Or rather the voicemail says the box is full and can't handle any more messages. I've been over there and it said it was closed till May 22 for renovations. Still if they're not answering their phone as of May 24 I'm not gonna spend time going out for their only to find that they're closed. It's the 21st century. What a refreshing surprise to happen upon a little sanctuary like Curmudgeon Booksellers---and in Marley Station Mall, of all places! For years, I've half-joked that bookstores don't exist in Glen Burnie. In fact, when Curmudgeon opened, it apparently made waves for being the mall's first bookstore in four years. And let me tell you, this bookstore breathes new life into a tired shopping mall that's been on a sharp decline for the past fifteen years. In a center where even popular, successful stores like Hollister & Co and Forever 21 have been closing up shop, rent is understandably cheap. Only in Marley Station is an independently owned secondhand bookstore able to set up shop at one of the best spots in the whole mall. Their new location is spacious enough to accommodate their incredible selection of used media. There are plenty of comfortable seating options that will tempt you to stay for an afternoon and enjoy a good read in this cozy nook. The staff are friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a particular title, they'll be able to tell you whether the store has it stocked. Prices are fair, and you'll find many obscure titles as well as popular ones. Highly recommend Curmudgeon to everyone! They pride themselves not only in their selection of typical bookseller wares but also manga, books on tape, books in foreign languages, films, records, games, CDs, and more. This place is pretty good for a variety of used books, although nothing spectacular. Their space is limited, which may only exacerbate the usual clutter in a store of this type. I noticed they had a large section dedicated to Christian studies, which will please that demographic but may turn off others. Still, they do seem to have a variety of topics to choose from. Their prices aren't that great considering the quality and age of the books. Books that are recent will be sold for almost new price, despite being used. In addition, I saw several old kids books of well-used quality that were being sold for $5 - $10+, probably solely because they were mid-20th century collectibles. Sorry, if I'm buying a stained copy of Curious George for my two year-old, it's worth maybe a buck or two. I'd say take a look if you're in the area and you may find some good deals. Otherwise, if you're looking for a large quantity of very cheap used books, you're better off heading to Second Story in Rockville. read more

Upgraded since I last visited, great space and it has a huge collection of used books. They also added a records sections, cd and movie section. Plus they sell mangas and comics! The Curmudgeon bookseller is a used book, CD, record, movie and art store located in Marley Station mall in Glen Burnie, MD. Despite its name, the owners of the Curmudgeon are anything but. Jeff and his wife Brenda are the owners and have always been very friendly and helpful when I asked for assistance. It is a family run business. A few features of the shop: 1. Extremely clean and well organized. (Shelves were well stocked and organized with a book lover's eye.) 2. Easy to browse categories. (Large signs hang overhead or on the shelving.) 3. New stock arrives every week. I've found a lot of different books everytime I went. 4. In Marley Station Mall (I went to the Savage Mills location at first, but they moved to Glen Burnie, MD). 5. Strong focus on biography, history, literature, children's books. 6. Big music selection (Unfortunately, I am not interested in old records. A lot of theirs were rock, jazz, etc.) 7. Fine bindings. There were a lot of Easton Press leather books there. 8. Prices were generally inexpensive. Most books were priced around $8-10. Good deals abound. I don't really understand their pricing format or if there even is one but I have found relatively new books in here for much cheaper than you would pay in Books A Million or even online. The one we have visited was in Marley Station Mall. It is a wonderful store with many new and used books, at excellent prices. It is small but it doesn't really feel that way once you start looking around. My husband and I love getting lost in all the variety of books, comics, CDs and DVD's that they have. We have found many rare finds and the prices are just amazingly cheap. I highly recommend coming for a visit, it might not be stocked like a big name retail bookstore but it has many unique books that many of those stores do not have. I've only been here once but I plan to go back for purchasing my future books. The prices are amazing! I bought The Help, hard cover which is originally $22.50 for $7.00! The book is in great condition so there was no way I could pass that up. I would definitely recommend this bookstore. read more

Terrible I was just in the Glen Burnie store and the dumbest girl ever was working there she hardly could talk correctly didn't seem like she's ever read a book couldn't answer any questions just basic about what they had she went on to explain how they have no inventory and she has no idea what they have in the store they just have whatever they have she couldn't even tell me if they had any kind of maps I mean when does the bookstore not have Maps anyway but I figured I'd ask and she was just so rude and simple I just couldn't believe it' especially it being a bookstore you know I mean if it was like a 7-Eleven at night at the beach okay but this girl was just dumb and rude and simple I don't know what her name was but it's Wednesday night April 24th at Glen Burnie Marley Station Mall in no one should ever go to this bookstore ever I would just read online it might make you dumber actually having to be around this person then just not reading a book. embarrassing this book store should be closed if that's the best they can do on a Wednesday how is she going to help a student or a kid that comes in. just embarrassing read more
