If your hiring an attorney on retainer , chances are its because something is happening that is important, something you need help with because your facing something that is impacting your life and can potentially change the future for your family. Anything dealing with the law is complex and often very scary, the language used is confusing and not necessarily something you can interpret on your own. Over the years I have dealt with so many attorneys for many different reasons. For the most part I've had decent representation but I found that after the initial consultation was over and the retainer was paid, my lawyer usually disappeared behind a closed door . I found most future communications then happened with the lawyers secretary. In the past I had to find out how my case was progressing from the secretary who usually could not answer my questions and would often say "I'll have to get back to you". To hire an attorney who is smart, is a great communicator who personally returns all his own calls has been a wonderful relief. Now add into that someone who cares about his clients feelings and is affordable - its like winning the trifecta in legal representation. The quality I appreciate the most about Daren Rubenfeld is the fact that he genuinely cares about his clients and is sensitive to the emotional drain people suffer when they are dealing with the unknown outcome of a legal battle. Mr. Rubenfeld represented me with my bank mortgage and protected me from a foreclosure. Being one of thousands who had a predatory loan who needed to navigate the road to obtain a loan modification - a grueling journey. I hired an attorney because there was an addendum to my contract that was bothering me, and wanted an attorney to look it over and rewrite it if necessary. There were three contacts at the firm, the attorney, a legal assistant, and a paralegal, and I was told to copy one or the other when corresponding with the attorney, and wasn't sure who was whom, or what was being done. After repeated contact, the attorney called me to scold and admonish me to read part of my contract, and never, despite repeated contact via email and phone to both he and his paralegal, the addendum was never addressed, even though I had paid 50% up front. I asked to be released from my contract and if possible, to obtain a full or partial refund, as I felt no work had been done. They refused. Recently, I offered to pay in full if they would take up this matter again, and they refused, offered a referral erroneously to the seller's agent, wrongly said they terminated me, and had pretty much done zero work on my behalf, despite perhaps reading my contract. AVOID.
