What are the odds of meeting someone from the big island of Hawaii in Zurich, Switzerland?…read more This hole in the wall restaurant is in the heart of old town Zurich, and serves take out food. There are high stools and tiny plastic tables crammed inside for those wanting to eat on the premises. Food is prepared beforehand on big vats cafeteria style. We ordered the CHF 12.50 vegetable curry and the CHF 14.50 butter chicken. All dishes are served on regular dishware with metal utensils and come with rice. The vegetable curry comes with cauliflower, green beans, and carrots, on a bed of rice. Not at all spicy, average portion size, and inexpensive for Zurich, the most expensive city in Europe. The good size portion of butter chicken is on the spicy side, so much so that I get a paper cup of water -the first and only time I was not charged for water in a restaurant in Switzerland. Heard from the owner that they were sold out of the CHF 14.50 fish curry. If I wanted more I would have ordered the CHF 16.50 lamb vindaloo. Wearing my big Island of Hawaii T-shirt, complete with a full size map of the island on my back. Lady next to me exclaimed to her boy friend "Hey that's your island!" The guy showed me his driver license, and by darn it was of Kaneohe. Not on the big Island but of Oahu. He had moved to Waikoloa on the big Island. They had come to Switzerland through Asia, with a delay in their plane flight back to the US and then to Hawaii. And added Jennifer R of Honolulu as a Yelp friend on the spot. 8000 miles from Hawaii, and meet here in Zurich!

Excellent! My favorite restaurant so far on our trip. I would like to come again many times. The…read morerösti was particularly delicious and the tea was excellent, too! The interior of the restaurant is very beautiful and the server was very friendly.

Yelp Review 2026 #64:…read more I'm not vegetarian and definitely not vegan. But I will dabble with the veg from time to time. Hiltl is popular for being the world's oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. Here's information I will share that I wish was available before planning to come here. You must make a reservation for lunch/ dinner because that's when they're busy. Breakfast is for walk-ins and they don't do reservations. Hop on their website and be sure you're on the right location because they have several within a 2-mile radius...some on the same street. I went here to try their breakfast buffet. I wasn't sure how busy they got for breakfast so, I got here at 6:30am because I got the wrong information online! They open at 7am. Different locations have different hours. Check their website for actual hours and don't trust review site information because it's wrong! They're not busy for breakfast at all. There's 2 ways to do their buffet. You can pay a fixed price and fill your plate multiple times or go and fill your plate once and pay based on the weight of your food - you get free bread. I did the pay-by-weight option. I have a whole day of eating planned so, I wasn't about to fill up for breakfast. When they opened at 7am, they were still putting the food out one by one. By 7:20, all the food was out which was fine. I was in no rush. The spread includes fresh fruits, cheeses, butter, margarine, cheesecake, chocolate mousse, mango mousse, mango chia pudding, banana chocolate brownie crumble, a pear dessert (with cream, vanilla and orange), rosti, scrambled eggs, potato salad, tomato and mozzarella salad, beets, chickpeas, olives, couscous, corn salad, olives, asparagus, green peas, feta cheese, hardboiled eggs, curry salad, dolmades, broccoli and edamame, artichoke salad, bulgur salad, tabbouleh, orecchiette tofu salad, Thai salad, hummus, guacamole, muhammara, etc. They have 6 types of bread. Slice a piece and toast it yourself. Vegan and vegetarian food tend to taste strongly of coconut/ coconut milk and I don't like that. My favorites from the buffet include chocolate mousse, mango mousse, banana chocolate brownie crumble, dolmades, asparagus, orecchiette tofu salad, and Thai salad. I got a mango lassi to drink which I didn't like. It had curry powder. Service was pleasant. The restaurant was clean.

First time in Zurich and only staying for a few days prior to exploring the rest of Switzerland…read more That said, keep in mind there will be no other Indian/Pakistani food experience for me; comparisons to others in the area will not be made. In terms of value - 5- we had buffet style dinner and it comes with at least 7 hot dishes and a nice but limited spread of salad, dessert and yogurt. Most meals I find out here is averaging 30-45 CHF for a $$-$$$ restaurants. USD conversion is almost one to one so that is something to consider when eating in Zurich. Being an all-you-can eat situation for less than 30 CHF is a mind-blowing surprise. In terms of taste - 4- there is nothing to complain for the quality and freshness. We entered the restaurant at 9 so the rice was a little dried but everything else tasted as good as you will get from an Indian restaurant compared to Los Angeles market where most of my Indian meals were consumed. The standard chicken masala (#1 option for me), chicken Tandoori, lamb curry, Dahl, fried fish, mixed veggies with spices were amongst the hot menu. The Gulaab Jamun (Indian doughnut) was a nice finisher for the meal. With other mild flavored food I had in earlier Swiss/German restaurants, the savory food at Sahan was a welcomed change of pace. In terms of service - 5 - ditto to all the other great reviews about the wonderful mannered service team. Overall - worth the money for food with spices considering your location and options. Would recommend for those looking to be slightly out of the busy city and not looking to sight see after the meal. 4.5 vote from me. Thanks for the bang for the Franc experience.. we only spent a bit over $100 for dinner and cokes for 3.

The restaurant itself is beautiful and extremely spacious. If you get a chance , speak to Naveed, he is extremely kind, hospitable and fun. We had the lunch buffet and were able to have Halwa Puri, a traditional Pakistani breakfast. If you are anywhere in the area come here, even if you are miles away, come here. The chicken and goat was amazing, tender and fresh. This felt like a home away from home.
