Danielle is a wonderful owner and is just finishing up a renovation that makes it very cute inside! The girls at the front desk are always so welcoming and easy to coordinate with. Every teacher there is great with the kids, very patient and fun. At the end of the school year there is an amazing showcase that is put on at SAMO High's auditorium and the production is terrific. There is no pressure to participate but it is really fun for all ages. My daughter loves dancing but is not 'advanced' - they don't put a lot of pressure on the kids and really encourage fun over perfection. The other thing I love is the free wifi. I often bring my computer down there and get caught up while I watch the dance class through the viewing window. The only downside is the classes can fill up fast so you really need to get on the schedule right away - now is a good time to get the fall classes going. If you have trouble parking there is usually a meter not far from the entrance. See you at dance class!!

Their L7 girls are amazing ! Expect to be part of more than several shows for Nutcracker with hours of rehearsals. So many well known graduates in American ballet companies. Advanced dancers are mostly very serious in the training and train in prestigious summer intensives such as SAB, PNB, MCB, John Cranko, RBS. The new director is very strict and expects a lot from the kids. Overall, probably the best studio not just for kids but for adults with their variety of adult classes and even their own intensive in summer!!

I arrived early and incredibly excited for my first-ever class. While I now understand beginners are often placed in the back to follow more experienced dancers, Natalia was incredibly cold and not welcoming at all. She placed me directly behind someone tall where I couldn't see the mirror or the instructor, which made it impossible to learn. To make matters worse, during the final stretch, she asked me to move into a corner so I wouldn't 'block others,' even though I was already in the very back of the room. An instructor's primary job in an intro class is to make students feel safe, capable, and encouraged--not like an inconvenience. I originally came to Westside Ballet planning to start my own classes before enrolling my toddler in their children's program. Because of this deeply disappointing experience, I will not be returning with my toddler or myself.

We were enrolled at the school of dance and music before the pandemic but then all classes were being taught online during the pandemic. Unfortunately that didn't work out for us. We saw Sophie dance's old location while we were driving down Wilshire and it was history from there. My daughter tried out for their team and was very excited to join their family. She said she didn't feel the time while she was there. She actually begged to stay longer. Sophie dance isn't just a dance studio but they are a family. The staff there is very personable. They are not afraid to tell you the truth. Their teams are amazing. My daughter learned so much being part of their team. Unfortunately, this year they required more hours which we couldn't commit to but they will always be our first family. Hands down the finest dance class instruction I have ever experienced. I have taken classes in…read moretango, ballroom, swing, and salsa and I have never had the pleasure of working with an instructor who is so focussed on giving students such a solid foundation of technique. What Jose Espinoza teaches in a group setting is what most instructors save for private lessons. Not only that, but he actually follows a logical curriculum so that students progress incrementally from class to class. Each class begins with a review of what was learned in the previous class and then new elements are added in such a way as to build one skill upon another. As if this weren't enough of a reason to take these classes, Jose Espinoza is a master at putting his students at ease and making us all laugh while, in some magical way, still making it clear that what we are doing is a serious endeavor worthy of effort, concentration, and diligence. After being in the dance world off and on since 1985, I can safely say that there is no one out there who approches dance instruction the way that Jose does. And believe me, his approach is spectacularly effective.

I took a 3 hour workshop in 2023 for a beginner sewing project and enjoyed myself. My husband…read morebought me a machine to encourage md and support my new hobby. But I felt so intimated by my new machine. I ticked it away for years but I saw an email for a Moving Thread beginner 4-week workshop. 3 hours each session. Last night was class 1 of 4. My class was six ladies aged from mid 20s to late 60s. One never sewed. Two hand sewed. And two of us used machines 20 and 30 years ago and one lady had a machine and used it but felt intimidated. So we were all pretty nervous about our fledgling sewing skills. But the class was paced perfectly and by the end of our first class we successfully completed beautiful reversible totes! The workshop is $550 and it's a great value: project 1 tote, project 2 zipper pouch, project 3 pants (two classes). Our instructor was warm, friendly, funny, knowledgeable, helpful. My only drawback are the chairs. They're not comfortable for me and my leg felt like it wanted to go numb. No one else seemed uncomfortable so maybe it's just me. I'll try a seat cushion to see if it'll help. I brought my machine with me so I could learn how to use it but my husband actually bought the same Heavy Duty Singer sewing machine provided in the class for student use. All the equipment, accessories, fabric needed is provided by the class. You only need to show up. No good or drink allowed in classroom but water is okay. Be sure to enter the rear entrance let the instructions in your student information email. Because to show up on time. Basically no make classes. So if you sign up be sure you're schedule is free for the specified time period. If you're thinking of taking a quick afternoon class or a full workshop I highly recommend you give Moving Thread a try. The instructor we had last night has her own fashion label and is highly knowledgeable but gave us very easy instructions that us newbies could follow. The was patient with our foibles and created an atmosphere of grace and fun. I look forward to my to rest of classes Eventually I look forward to trying the advanced class offerings too. I've hit my eye on the alterations class.
