The CVS on grand Avenue in Duluth, Minnesota, should be shut down. Minimal staff. And very unfriendly the other day I went to get a prescription he said card and then he went in and helped me close that he didn't help at all. Give me my prescription and close the window. The fantastic Walgreens is directly across the street. I do not recommend anyone shop this store. read more

This CVS is conveniently located in the middle of Duluth, there is ample free parking and it's a clean and tidy store. I stopped there on a Sunday night in July and the pharmacy was open 24 hours a day- a plus when you're traveling and someone gets sick/needs meds outside of "bankers hours." ;) Only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that there was no self-check out, and I unfortunately was in line behind some meth-heads who took forever to check out, only to have the alarms buzz when they bolted out of the store. The supervisor checked me out and was polite, swift and courteous, and got me enrolled in a new extra care card for discounts. Also good bing 4/5 stars bc their magazine selection was pretty spare and some of the issues were from April! (Probably an oversight by the stocker.) read more

Update 9/20/16: I thought I would give CVS another shot. After purchasing my items, I said to the woman at the register "Thank you. Have a great day!" Her response (with a straight face and monotone voice): "I will." Original review: CVS/Pharmacy recently opened up in Duluth. For their grand opening and in order to draw new customers into the store, CVS mailed out pamphlets around the city which contained all sorts of coupons for discounts as well as even a bunch of "FREE GIVEAWAY" items. As I passed by the store one day, I decided to take a look inside the newly constructed building and brought along my pamphlet of coupons for the tour. As I walked inside, I was very impressed by the look of the store. It looked great inside and had a very spacious feel. It was a very clean and orderly store (as to be expected considering it is brand new). I was a bit surprised by the lack of customers in the store, but they were completely loaded up on employees. I was a bit taken aback by the fact that I was not greeted by any of the employees throughout my entire tour of the store (until I walked up to the register). I thought this was strange considering their interest in building a customer base as a new brand in the area, and because there were plenty of employees and not many shoppers. Well, I took a complete tour of the aisles and browsed around looking for a few items I needed along with checking out some of the discounts/free items they listed on their coupons. When I was done touring, I walked up to the register with all of my purchases/give-aways in hand (I will admit that most of the free items they were giving away were pretty worthless and therefore, I didn't even bother to pick them up). I said hello to the woman at the cash register and asked her how she was doing. I told her that the store looked great. Her response: "yeah." I asked her how business had been since the first day they opened. She said, "Well it was horrible for the first week and a half, but now it is much better." I was surprised by this and said "It was horrible? That's too bad, I would've thought a lot of people would want to stop in and check out the new store, I am glad business has picked up now." She responded, "No, it was horrible because so many people came in! It is better now that it isn't busy." I guess we had completely opposite ideas on what makes business good or bad. She rang up my items and gave me the total. The amount sounded on the high side of what I anticipated. I figured she forgot and charged me for one of the free giveaway items or something. So, I asked her about it. She said that the total was right. Another employee or manager was passing by at the time and he came over to take a look. He said, "Oh that's the tax. Even though the items are free, you still pay taxes on them." I responded "So, they aren't actually free-giveaways." "Yes, they are free," he said, "You just have to pay taxes on them." So, out of curiosity I asked them how they calculate the taxes on their "free giveaway" items? What number were they using to multiply by the tax rate? Were they calculating it based on the wholesale price of the item? They just stared blankly at me. So, I paid for my items and walked out the door. As I walked out the door, I thought about how sending out coupons labeled FREE (without any fine print indicating that the customer will have to pay a "sales" tax) was a great way to get people into the store. It definitely worked, but will not necessarily work in converting me to be a repeat customer. read more
