Also, the prices in the store are extremely high very bad Customer Service.

This convenience store has existed for as long as I can remember (I'm going back to my teen years,…read morein the mid-1980s). The name has changed slightly to "Sunny Hill," although you can see part of the old sign under the new sign. The first reviewer, "DTronic" (awesome username, BTW), pretty much hit the nail on the head when he described this place as a mecca for lottery addicts. As if to drive the point home, the sign above the door for Sunny Hill has the words, "Lottery Agent" in huge letters, and the words "Convenience Store" in much smaller letters. Coincidentally, when I stopped here today (it had probably been over a decade since I set foot in the store), the store saw heavy customer traffic, probably in large part due to a $1.6 BILLION jackpot in Mega Millions, and a hefty $620 million Powerball jackpot. While I rarely play the lottery, I couldn't resist due to the hype, so I bought one quick-pick ticket for each game. The customer in front of me joked and said, "Don't bother buying a ticket - I just bought the winning one." As a convenience store, it's pretty dingy and time-worn, further hampered by limited selection of product, no decent coffee setup and no public bathroom. At least there's adequate parking, however. Oh, and you read it here first: If I hit the $1.6 billion jackpot, one of the things I'll do with the money is give whoever owns this rundown convenience store money for a major renovation (I mean, c'mon, the floor tiles look like they've been around since Reagan was president). Or maybe I'll buy the store and send the lottery addicts to a 12-step program.

While I wouldn't rate them 5 stars like the first reviewer did (way back in 2009, when the store…read morewas probably brand new), it's definitely a solid, 4-star gas station/convenience store. And yes, it is convenient, in many aspects: It boasts plenty of gas pumps, and a huge parking lot with two entrances/exits. It's on a less-busy section of Route 1, so pulling out of here isn't too difficult. Inside, it has all the usual 7-Eleven amenities, including hot foods like pizza, burgers and hot dogs, plus the obligatory Slurpee machine (replete with sticky floor in its immediate vicinity during this heatwave). They also have a public bathroom. The drink coolers and snack displays were pretty well-stocked, even on a 90-degree day. Employees here are usually friendly, although there was kind of a wack crew working today, on the Fourth of July. One of the cashiers - a young woman with tattoos on the inside of her forearms - dropped an F-bomb, and loudly complained about the customer she had just rang up, because he pulled out some coins from his pocket after she had already given him his change. The other cashier - a man who appeared in his 40s - who waited on me, had kind of an odd vibe about him, as if he was much too happy to be working. He also handed me my change in an annoying way, practically letting the bill drop before I was able to grab it. He reminded me of a Mel Gibson during his crazy state, actually. Normally, I would deduct a star for this dynamic duo, but I'll give 'em a pass, since they were game enough to work on a holiday.

Dang ... I can't believe nobody in this great Yelposphere has reviewed this Cumby's yet! Oooh, I…read morelove to be first .... As Rhode Islanders not living under rocks know by now, Cumberland Farms has been on a construction rampage the last few years, cranking out convenience store equivalents of Walmart Supercenters. Even for a new-generation Cumby's store, this one is super attractive, especially its outdoor patio, under an expansive pergola. But, this store is somewhat crippled by a traffic engineering experiment gone awry - yes, I'm talking about the numerous rotaries ("roundabouts") that have taken over the village of Apponaug. Thank God I had my stepson to guide me as to the best entrance to pull into, so I would be in the best position to leave without being trapped by the rotary right next to this Cumby's. Who knew getting a coffee at Cumby's would involve strategic planning? And, their parking lot is cramped for the size of the store and volume of customers. The inside has some warts too. For instance, the TP dispenser in the men's bathroom threatened to fall off the wall at any minute, and a soap dispenser was out of soap. I saw some large gaps in stock, particularly 20-ounce bottles of soda (does my stepson live here?). But, the highlight of my visit today were the employees. "We at Cumby's take care of our customers!" I overheard an older female employee at the coffee station tell a man getting coffee. Gee, if she patted herself on the back any harder, her shoulder might've become dislocated. Then, the young man who cashed me out looked as nerdy as Pee Wee Herman. When he handed me my change, he put the coins on top of the bills, with the predictable result that the coins slid off the bills, and scattered all over the counter. He apologized profusely, but then admitted that happens to him frequently. I suggested he change his technique to handing customers coins first, then bills. Hah!!
