My relationship with CVS goes way back in years to when I was young, living in Boston, Massachusetts and my car broke down in the middle of the highway, at a time cellphones didn't exist. I had no idea what to do and suddenly I look through my rear view mirror and see a CVS Samaritan Van here to provide help and relief to a driver in need of roadside assistance. You don't know the feeling of relief that I felt at that moment. Since then I have been a customer of CVS and when I moved here to Roanoke, I choose the CVS in Towers as my pharmacy of choice. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new businesses and restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And the CVS Pharmacy in Towers in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. Open seven days a week until 12 midnight, conveniently located, with a nice size parking and a drive through window, these are some of the reasons why I choose this pharmacy, but like me there are many others who shop here and it tends to be very busy. Bust just like in the restaurant business, it is the very busy ones who tend to be the best ones. But everytime I've visited this pharmacy, included today, the pharmacists seem to be very busy, yet if I waited in line, they have always have had the time not only to deliver my medicine, but they have had time to listen to my needs and help with whatever they could. And I appreciate this very much since my mother was a Pharmacist for 50 years and worked as the Head Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager in the Oldest running Pharmacy in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, having passed the Pharmacy Boards of Florida and Massachusetts as well. For the first time I was having a Colonoscopy done as a preventive measure and the specialist doing the procedure had the medicines that I would need to prepare for this sent to this Pharmacy. When I went to pick them up I found out that my insurance didn't cover them, so after noticing there cost I asked if they had any plan that could help me lower the cost a bit. The pharmacist taking care of me brought the medicines to the "Consultation" counter and asked me to wait there. There, almost immediately the Head Pharmacist, came to see me and was able to use a card or plan they have for this, making the cost of the medicines more reasonable. I just had to wait in the waiting area for the Pharmacist to process the transaction. I thanked her immensely and mentioned to her about how my deceased mother Pharmacist would have been very proud of her. This Pharmacy may have many advantages, but their primary one is their people, their pharmacists, who work in a very caring profession, and do their work well. For I find that people don't mind how much you know and how many degrees you have, as much as that you care. read more

The pharmacy staff are incredibly rude and will lie about deactivating your prescriptions. I got prescribed a new bp med and had an allergic reaction. Someone on staff deactivated my old prescription and then lied to me about it stating they can't deactivate scripts. I had to call my doctor to get it fixed and when I picked up my new script for my old bp med the guy asked if I was taking both. I said no I'd had a reaction to the new one. He said oh let me deactivate that one then and literally did it in front of me. I also deal with this location for calling in scripts for doctor's at my work. I can never reach the pharmacist. They answer, put me on hold for 5min and then fwd me to vmail vs picking back up. I hate dealing with this location. read more

Just stopped by 2 pick up prescriptions for a sick spouse. Gave the birthday and showed a medical card with name before we were married in case it hadn't been changed. We have been married only 4 months. Attractive young lady with a Harvard sweat shirt on. Treated like a dumb ass, made several snotty remarks we will not come back after this..she was so snotty..no one that is sick sgould be treated that way read more

I've never had this much trouble filling a regular medication I need every day. You'll call to check the status, only to arrive and be told it's out of stock- every month you fill it. Only once you show up in person do they start refilling and tell you to wait a couple days! I'm certainly not returning to this CVS as they cannot maintain an adequate inventory nor handle their existing client base in a respectable fashion. If they could at least communicate their inventory issues I could better plan my day, but they continuously fall short on their service delivery. Staff is understanding and communicative, but the lack of proper business management for necessary meds is incorrigible. read more

CVS Minute Clinic feels like it genuinely saved my life this week. The doctors were literally the nicest people I have met practicing medicine. I have never had such a positive experience leaving a medical practitioner's office. They listened to my concerns and actually took their time with the examination. I left feeling validated and taken care of. The convenience of having the pharmacy right there is top notch in my opinion. One stop for your visit and your medication. Pharm techs were super kind and friendly as well. I don't plan to be sickly in the Roanoke area again, but if I am I'm definitely going back :) read more

I've been calling for over two hours 11:00 until 1:30. No one picked up phone at the pharmacy or up front. Wanted to make sure they received my prescription and if the meds were in stock. Very poor customer service. 24 hr ???? read more

Update: went today to pick up medication. It was for my dog so I don't get notifications. Waited in line at the pharmacy for 15 minutes to find out it's not ready. Not allowed to pay for my ibuprofen at the pharmacy so I had to go to the front where I waited in line another 7 minutes. I think I'm done with CVS. read more

A friend brought an EMERGENCY ROOM prescription for a NEBULIZER to this pharmacy 3 weeks ago. They had to order it, they said. Today we went back to pick up another prescription, from Med Express, to remedy a severe asthma attack caused by not giving her a nebulizer for 3 weeks ! Not only did they not have any of her asthma medication in stock. They also still did not have her nebulizer. This is a gross oversight and unbelievably negligent for a business which is responsible for the health and well-being of their clients. The store and pharmacy managers should be fired. The company needs much stricter oversight of this location. DO NOT RELY ON THIS PHARMACY TO PROVIDE YOU WITH MEDICATION OR DEVICES NECCESARY TO KEEP YOU OUT OF THE HOSPITAL !! read more

Girl with long black hair and glasses told me at the drop off window I was not permitted to get my RX filled there. I explained to her that Wal Mart didn't have the medicine so they sent me here. She tells me they won't fill it. She's a liar. Because the CVS near Lewis Gale did. Stop inflicting your personal beliefs on those who actually use prescription pain medications properly. We didn't all cause this opioid problem, BIG PHARMA did. Corporate will get your names at this CVS. You're all asshats. read more

This is basically for the pharmacy: I have NEVER had such poor service when it came to picking up prescriptions. I was having a horrible mast cell flare..those of you who know about those, know how immediate you need meds...it took 3 days to get my prescription filled! They had no sympathy for me when I called multiple times to see if they could do anything...even if I could go somewhere else to get it. Fast forward to all my medications needed down the road... not once have I gone to pick up a prescription and it be filled...let alone in stock. It's a shame I expect this to be an everyday occurrence. They are consistent....consistently shitty. read more

The CVS on Colonial Ave has the best customer service.

The date was April 29, 1994. It wasn't an overly sunny Friday afternoon, but it was warm. Warm in the way southwest Virginia gets once the cool days of spring begin to melt slowly into the outstretched arms of summer. I was but a child, lost in an imaginary world of dragons and castles and ironclad heroes. Blades of grass tickled my elbows and neck as I laid in Mr. McCormick's field, studying the clouds as they slowly passed overhead towards the mountainous horizon. In the distance, I could hear the soft crunching of grass buried under heavy footsteps. The sound grew as the steps neared. "What do ya see Bill?" I looked towards the voice and found my father, dressed in faded jeans and a bass fishing shirt, smiling his crooked smile as he continued to walk towards me. "Where do the clouds come from dad?" I questioned. As he sat down beside me, he answered, "Well, from water." I pondered this answer for a few moments before asking, "But how dad?" "Well, water goes from the ocean and from the lakes and from everywhere else there is water and gets sucked up into the sky. And then, when the sky gets all the water it can take, it dumps it back out. That's where rain clouds come from, Billy." "Like grandpa's lake?" I inquired. "Yes, Bill. Just like grandpa's lake." You may be asking yourself what this tale of youthful dialogue between father and son has to do with a pharmacy. Frankly, absolutely nothing. But the CVS on Colonial Avenue SW does have an immense chapstick selection, a bountiful shampoo aisle and the friendliest of cashiers. Shop accordingly. read more

I went to the pharmacy on Thursday (6/8) around 8pm to pick up Vitamin D3 50,000 iu/weekly capsules. After I was diagnosed with a Vitamin D deficiency last year, my surgeon told me I needed to start taking the weekly supplements so I wouldn't forget to take them like I do with the daily supplements. I was visiting family this past weekend, and managed to forget the dose I normally take on Thursdays so I went to this CVS hoping they would have the tablets in stock. Unfortunately this ended up being a very negative part of my trip, and I am beyond disgusted with how I was treated by the pharmacy technicians and female pharmacist. I went up to the counter to ask if they had Vitamin D3 50,000 iu/weekly supplements in stock. The technician immediately told me that it required a prescription. I explained that the CVS I normally shop at does not require a prescription and that my insurance also has it listed as an OTC supplement. The technician then grabs a bottle of something from a shelf and says "is this what you are asking for?". I stated multiple times that I had no idea what the bottle was that she pulled from the shelf, but she never even let me look at it. She then goes to another tech and says "she (the customer) claims she gets this without a prescription at her regular CVS, but I know we don't do that." The other tech then, without bothering to speak to me, agrees with the first tech. She then goes to the pharmacist, and calls me a liar and then proceeds to show this random bottle to the pharmacist saying that I was lying about getting the supplement with a prescription, and as I am trying to ask the pharmacist why one CVS would allow me to buy the supplement without a prescription and why my insurance even noted this supplement does not require a prescription, but this one CVS somehow requires me to have a prescription for something that doesn't require one. She simply looked at me and said "we don't sell this without a prescription." Once I realized they were going to continue to call me a liar and not help, I left after telling them they need to do some research. The next day(still upset at being called a liar and not getting the supplement I need) I looked on CVS.com and found the D3 supplement, AND where the CVS website states the supplement does NOT require a prescription, I went back to the same CVS to speak with a different pharmacist. Once I explained what happened the pharmacist who was there on Friday morning actually looked up the supplement I was requesting, found that it in fact, did NOT require a prescription told me that they did not have it in stock, but he would order it for me if I needed him to. I was very appreciative, but since I was leaving in 2 days, I told him that I would just have to wait until I got back home. With all of this said, once it was confirmed they did not have the D3 supplement in stock, I am extremely confused as to what medicine or supplement the technician on Thursday evening even grabbed off the shelf. I am disgusted by the fact that she seemed more intent on calling me a liar than actually trying to help. I visit Roanoke a lot, and I am planning to move their in the future, but I will never go back to this CVS. I think both the technicians and pharmacists at this location need better training in customer service. I have never felt so attacked while trying to buy something as benign as a dietary supplement. I will also be contacting corporate as this was completely unacceptable and beyond unprofessional. read more

I have never posted before but this deserves it. I am standing in line and people are waiting behind me! This lady is at the counter with an over flowing basket and cart full of groceries and they check her out at the pharmacy. On top of i called my medicine in hours ago and she said it will be ready in 15 minutes after the lady leaves. I needed my seizure medicine tonight for the morning but because they were so rude I didn't wait. read more

If you look up complaints about CVS on the internet you will see that I'm not the first victim of them stealing narcotic pain medicine and getting away with it. They shorted me 4 of my pain meds and when I noticed, I went back and asked for the manager to look at the video and the manager just pulled it up and let the thief who took my meds look at the video, of course. Before you leave the register count your medicine. This is how pharmaceutical meds are getting on the streets.. read more

I've lived in this neighborhood for 8 years and shop this CVS very often. Despite dropping $80 every time I walk in the door on random crap I still get followed like a common criminal EVERY time I walk in. I actually got used to it and started to ignore it but it seems like the last 4 times its been so much worse and blatantly obvious. I'm not a shoplifter I'm a chubby 40 year old housewife. Okay so I like the service at the pharmacy they are pretty good. I hate this one old lady who works there who claims that none of the registers will look up my points on my CVS shopping card, although other workers have done it. I think she just doesn't know how to do it or doesn't want the store to lose money over the point system. I forgot her name but unfortunately she was the only one working there today. One good thing that I like about it here, compared to the one on Southeast, is that, they don't keep the restaurant locked so you don't have to ask permission to go. read more

The only reason I still get my RX's filled here is because it's a pain in the butt to. Change. The pharmacy staff are ALWAYS rude. I don't know what it is, or what time of day we are there, they act like they are too annoyed to help you. God forbid you call, they are so mono toned and lazy. I can't stand this staff. No one I've met there in the years I've been getting my scripts have even been nice enough to strike my memory. They really need to hire someone other than little girls who have either just gotten their pharmacy license, and think they are better than everyone, or the older women who act like they are too good to help you. Well today I tried to find out about DOT test and called the number to make sure doc would be there that does the CDL test and local # listed on website don't work. Called main # and after a few mins I got told they did but didn't know if CDL doc was in. Told me to hold while they checked. Thirty minutes later I was told yea he was in today. I said I wasn't sure I could make it today it might be tomorrow or the next day. They said I would have to call back to make sure doc was in. I asked for a local to check before I drove 30 miles and was told they didn't give out local numbers. I gave up the CVS DOT test and called another place. 1st time I tried CVS and I hope its the last for the Minute Clinic that took me over 1/2 hour. read more

Convenient place to get your meds, personal care items and last minute holiday gifts!

Lost my insurance information after I'd waited in a line reminiscent of the movie Beetlejuice. Asked me if my insurance card was the most recent I had. It was effective that day. Waited in said line again and they couldn't find my prescription. Long story short, after my text notifying me that meds were ready I was in and out in a speedy 1 hour and 15 minutes. Two people were friendly the rest either ignored me or, in the case of the muscle girl, talking at me while ignoring my responses. read more

Ive been with cvs for a lot of years and I have too say this cvs is the absolute worse place too get your meds filled the staff is very rude and hateful they loose your prescriptions don't fill them as promised and don't make phone calls too let you know anything about your meds I have made several phone calls and complaints too the 1800 number for cvs and nothing is ever done I just made a complaint with the bbb and plan on persuing a lawyer and pressing charges for discrimination and harrasement ive had too pull all my meds and now drive across town too another cvs instead of being able too walk too this one I wouldn't recommend this store too anybody when it comes too the pharmacy it is horrible!!! read more

My husband took a rx in to get filled. We went to run a few errands and let them know we would be back soon. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes or so. We came back about 25 minutes later. I sat in the car with our baby who was sleeping. He was in there for 30 minutes waiting on his rx because they waited for him to get back before even beginning to fill it. We have never had issues like this at any other cvs. Awful customer service as well seeing as they gave an attitude after us being upset that it wasn't ready almost an hour after we had brought the rx in. We will no longer return to this store unless something changes. read more

The whole crew was fantastic but Beth working drop offs was the best worker of a pharmacy I have ever seen. I have never had a better experience with any pharmacy. First, let me say that I basically live at this CVS. They have amazing skin care selection, neat aisles and pleasant cashier clerks. My problem is with the pharmacists. I understand that they are very busy and anyone can get snippy when they are under pressure and stress so I try not to take it personally, but it would be nice to have them be more polite. For example, I spoke with a pharmacist last week over the phone about a hold on medication. Said she would "run it again But we're very busy you won't know till four pm" I told her that was fine and started to ask another question but she had already hung up. I figured they were busy and that I would call back later at a less hectic time. Time passes I call back, ask my question, get an answer and get hung up on again before I have time to respond. Again, I don't take this personally, but it would be nice to not be hung up on when I'm asking about my medication. Still a great CVS though :-) read more
