This place has been nothing but amazing to me for the past few years. This place was affordable and amazing enough for me to take classes during the summer and allow me to transfer them to my university for credits. Staff here are amazing. My professors are transparent and amazing. One of my professors, Dr. Tapia, helped me emotionally and psychologically when I told him that I was in a very traumatic incident almost three years ago. I have had the worst and most frustrating experience of my life trying to enroll into this school. For months they kept giving me the runaround. I had to call just to get my own student id because they were gonna forget it otherwise. They are so rude over the phone. The first guy blamed me for calling too early to speak to a general counselor, then when I told him that it said the time and I was there five minutes after, he said she was late. I told him I needed to speak to someone about enrolling, he told me that I have to speak to a generals counselor before I can even speak to a majors counselor. So, I went back to their little only chat and waited again. I spoke to her, told her I was doing a career change because I already have multiple degrees. I just wanted to do court reporting. She told me that going to private schools would be an issue because it's different. Okay... then she told me to speak to a major's counselor and to call back the other number because I needed more information. I called back, someone else answered and told me the majors counselor for court reporting wasn't in until the 17th. I said okay and I waited. Called in multiple times today, nobody answered. I go to their online chat, it took forever to speak to someone. They said I need to speak to a majors counselor, give me the link, and I wait more and NOBODY ANSWERS. I hate it here. I started calling and trying to reach someone around 10AM, it's not 11:45 and I still can't reach someone to help me. I have CalVet, which means I can go tuition free. I have my student ID. They keep telling me to just register, but I have no idea which classes to register into. I do not know if I need to transfer GE credits. I do not know how to connect my CalVet benefits to their school. I do not know anything about their process, other than they CLEARLY DO NOT WANT TO HELP ME ENROLL FULLY. It is the most frustrating experience knowing that I could start classes but I can't because nobody there can answer questions. I'm actually over it. If it's this challenging to start school, then my assumption is that they won't be much help when I'm actually fully enrolled and registered. I guess this is part of the reason why there's a shortage of court reporters in California -- because schools like this don't gaf about who wants in. You give tickets for people who park safely at your campus for people pulling into a parking space backwards in a horizontal parking space. I was not parked in a vertical slot. I was parked directly at the side facing the building. It is far more unsafe to back out of a parking space. It is a proven fact I am a safety professional with over 35 years of experience. You need to train your parking facility and company authorities on proper parking etiquette and Tickets. I would've understood if I would've parked in an angle parking lot. In which I was not, I was next to the building backed in because I have a sore knee and parked closer and backed into my parking spot as it is unsafe. I was considering attending Cypress College, but after learning what's happening to the community cats on campus, I cannot support this school. Simon, a small campus cat, was allegedly struck with a rake by a Cypress College employee. He suffered severe neck and spine injuries and had to be put down. How do you do that to a defenseless animal just trying to survive? Craig Lee, Director of Campus Security, oversees the area where people leave water for the cats. Yet those water sources are repeatedly destroyed. Dr. Scott Thayer has claimed the school provides water for the cats, but that's simply not true. Community members are constantly rushing to bring water because the cats are left without it. Between 2023 and 2024, the campus cat population dropped from 26 to 23. That means three cats are unaccounted for. Where did they go? What happened to them, Dr. Thayer? These are living beings--deserving of answers and transparency. There are also serious allegations that employee Tim Noriega has trapped cats with the intent to kill them. If you have any knowledge of animal abuse at Cypress College, please report it to law enforcement. And if you work at the school and face retaliation for speaking out, document everything and contact an employment law attorney. Simon's story is heartbreaking, and the disappearance of other cats raises grave concerns. Students deserve to attend a college where animals are treated humanely and accountability matters. I was Sexually abused/Harassed 8 years later I'm ready to finally let it be known and over . When I was 18 I was very excited to attend Cypress College I went in to buy all my books for my classes . On my first day I took the bus from home to the college campus at 8am while I was on the public bus a man with a backpack was starring at me and came up to me asking if I was going to Cypress College since I had a backpack as well for all my books. I didn't want to talk to him but he came off very pushy and since it was my first day I didn't really know anything. So I replied by saying "yes". He then told me he attended cypress college and would be able to show me around and help me if I needed it . I told him thank you but I'm fine . Finally the bus stops I walk to the college and notice his right behind me walking the same speed as I am . Next thing I know he runs up beside me being pushy saying where were my classes he can find them for me I told him I was okay I kept walking now I needed to take the elevator to my class I was debating if I should or look for someone else to help me so this guy could back off but i thought everyone would look at me like I'm crazy . I was also going to be late to my class so I decided to just run and take the elevator. This man runs and jumps into the elevator as soon as the elevator door closes he puts his body and rubs it against mine in the front of me then he proceeds to put his finger on my mouth and tells me to be quiet. He touched my private and his . Then he touches my hair . When the elevator door opened I ran out the door the hallways are long so I tired to hide and get away from him but I seen him looking for me he sees me and tells me to go to the restroom he wanted to "show me something " I'm running and looking for the class I'm supposed to go to I see a students out a door waiting for the teacher i try to blend in with the other students and the man sees that I'm with a group of students and he leaves . I stayed with the group luckily the teacher was very late to the class . I was frantic disgusted and wanting to throw up . That has never happened to me once the teacher came I was panicking and paranoid I told myself I need to go home I walked away from the area down the halls with time down stairs and looked to my left to my right to see if the man was still there he was no where to be seen . I left so fast and went back on the bus home . I was crying because n the bus crying walking home then crying when I went to my room . My first day was supposed to be exciting for me a new chapter a new beginning my whole family was disappointed that I quit. I never told my family what really happened to me on campus. My FASA all gone my hard work my books a reminder what could have been . I was so scared to step foot back on Cypress college campus I never wanted to go back after that . Financial aid can and will screw you over if you change schools. They do not conduct proper audits and will make the student fix their financial incompetence. DO NOT ATTEND THIS COLLEGE!!!!! I signed up for one summer class. On day two I had to withdraw from the class. I went to my gateway to withdraw and noticed a few glitches but thought I withdrew. I tried for two days calling the admin office for follow up. No luck , got answering machine. Finally I called the security department and they answered and somehow he was able to fix admin phones. All in all they will not return my money for the one class. They said I was late and that is not true. Their gateway system is unreliable and the leadership is very unreliable and unorganized. They don't answer their phones and do not support students. I can not understand why they will not refund my money after the second day I withdrew on June 10. read more

This learning institution has very kind professors who do their best, but administration and "leadership" need better channels of communication between different departments. tl,dr: ok place for free drop-in pickleball. + Likes: I visited here for pickleball. Nice place, lots of friendly players. I like that pickleball here is open-play (no reservations needed). You can fit 4 pickleball nets per tennis court here. Out of the 8 open tennis courts here, 2 are designated for pball setup. Thus, normally a total of up to 8 pball courts may be set up here. As you can see in my screenshot, there are no permanent pickleball nets here on these tennis courts. You have to bring your portable pball net. At least the pickleball lines are permanently drawn on. - Non-likes: Tricky parking situation. Sundays are more lenient than other days of the week. I forgot the specific rules. Sometimes you can park on the street, though there's limited space. Other times they'll ticket you. And yet, you know there are many other pickleball places with free parking. In this bigger perspective, the parking issue at this College just to play pickleball is unnecessarily annoying. If you're unlucky enough to find street parking far down the street, it's gonna be a bit of a walk to the pickleball courts, cuz there's no immediate entrance from the street into the pball courts. Such an unnecessarily long walk around. It's annoying how the white pball lines are drawn on the baby blue tennis court, and the outer boundary is painted dark blue. Very confusing and somewhat hard to see. Also, the lights on the outer parts of the tennis courts are dim here, so the pickleball court is split between a bright side and a shady side. read more

The schedule offered can be tricky especially if you work full time but it is doable if you work nights or like me (I work 3- 12's). Core classes are starting to be offered during the summer which is super helpful as well. There's free lunch provided daily to all students in the cafeteria. They will give you different answers. Either that or they are lying to your face. It's a shame that these people are actually getting paid to do what they do, which is sit at a desk and be useless. As a teacher currently transitioning students to high school (and ultimately college), the subject of community college often comes up when planning their schedules. For some reason parents think their kids need to jump straight to a four-year university. I contend that the two-year (ok, maybe three) program is the obvious stepping stone that bridges high school to university. Having done both, I know that Cypress College was an easier to navigate and more personal experience than just being a student ID # in the back row of a lecture hall. Now, I attended when classes were only $5 a unit, 1987-1990. Movies were a nickel, TV was free, and a Big Mac was a ha'penny. Seriously though, parking, for the rare days I actually needed it, was fifty cents a day. The road (Lakeshore) went through the whole campus and passed by a glass booth where I served as one of a handful of KCCR radio DJs in the late 80s. My teachers and classes were great. Human Sexuality (the rare lecture hall class), Creative Writing and five semesters of volleyball were my favorite classes. The great 1989 earthquake (SF) coincidentally hit as we took our Geology final. Argumentation was very effective (or is that a glittering generality?); Signing Exact English not so much (it was different than ASL so when I asked my friend's hearing-impaired dad if Joe could come out and play tennis, he brought me a potato). Human Communication, Composition, Literature. The psychology classes were awesome, which included Intro 101, Interpersonal Relationships, Self-Actualization, and Abnormal. I especially liked reverse psychology Or did I? I took Photography, Guitar, History, Freehand Drawing (I was one of those people drawing the trees outside). I probably only disliked one teacher: Dr. Hickey from Ethics, who wrote "Children aren't happy" and then chastised us for writing it down, and who claimed that the person who couldn't take a position on abortion was somehow "right". Our Oceanography class took a field trips to Sea World and our Ecology class went out on a boats. [Neither class went toward by science requirement, so PLAN accordingly- I had to further take Biology and Geology to transfer]. The library had private piano rooms. Their job board directed me to two awesome jobs. Best of all, No Doubt often played there for free, back when they had a horn section and acne. The best memory is me failing at the tryouts for the Coors Light Comedy Commandos with fellow contestant Scott Aukerman (of Comedy Bang Bang). I loved the 110 acre campus, which is just blocks from four of OC's most important freeways. The futuristic buildings surrounding a lake (designed by Frank Lawyer of Caudill Rowlett Scott in the 60s) never looks dated. Luckily, I grew up in the area, which is within 12 miles of Disneyland, Knott's, Angel Stadium, and the ocean. It's famous for its mortuary science program (Pedro from Six Feet Under mentions he is a graduate at his interview). People are dying to get in! read more

I went to the Sunday swap meet 6/21/20 and got a $37 ticket for not parking "head-in." Wtf this is stupid. I was parked along the wall and they had NO SIGNS posted on the wall. I saw a handful of other cars next to me who received tickets too. I circled around the parking lot to find any signs and saw only ONE "head-in parking only" sign in the middle aisle. I sent an appeal the very same day proving my activated permit and receipt of the transaction but it wasn't enough for them. Later, I called the college asking why I'm receiving this and their reply was that I didn't login into the website to activate my vehicle even when their website it only says all fees must be paid to activate your permit. If I want to dispute it, i'd be sending an appeal to the same place that gave me the ticket. Gee that sounds fair. And if I decided not to pay it on principle, they warn you that the DMV may refuse to allow you to renew your car registration until you pay. And they double the fine if you don't pay it on time. Nice little racket they got going on there. So for potential students who are considering enrolling here, you should consider this a red flag. The campus is extremely beautiful, the waterfall is a refreshing sight, the night tower is beautiful late night and the track is pretty clean. The campus is not too big so you can't get lost. Their counselors there are pretty helpful. The food there is pretty good and your also surrounded by a few good eateries around the area. They also have a flea market here on weekends. If I could give zero I would. I attended Cypress in 2020 and I left ultimately due to a racial comment made by my professor. There were a few classes that I was not very successful in a couple classes. I transferred to a different institution and made up those classes. I sent in an academic renewal and it was denied. I decided to go to the campus in person since they take over 3 days to respond to an email. I went to the campus and immediately felt I was at the DMV. Once I got to the window the gentleman (who was kind) had zero answers to my questions so he had to go to a supervisor. I asked if I could talk to his supervisor, and he said there was no supervisor there to help me and I was sent to counseling. This has been a process for over a month and is necessary for scholarships and transferring. read more

3-minute drive from home. Very clean looking, inside and out, located in one of the safest, and most productive city of California, Cypress- what more can I possibly ask for? Hah... Oh wait- there are a couple. First- they need to add more night classes. When you are a night owl, you have a limited course choices as some classes are not avaialbe during the night. Second- add more science, math, and engineering classes. If you are a science major- two year is not enough to finish your prerequisites in order to transfer to a university- as their science courses are very limited. Third- make the classrooms to accommodate more students. Classrooms are fairly small and only accommodate limited number of students. Compared to the other college I've been- their student limit in every class here is fairly lesser. Fourth- acquire more lot to expand the parking. The parking is crazy. There're not much words to describe how crazy it is. Fifth- add more food provider. They only have 4 or five provider, and I believe more choices- the better. It has been an awesome first semester of the Court Reporting program I've been taking here at Cypress College. Its pretty amazing that this school is the #1 Community College in California! Ms. Freer who is the head of the Court Reporting department is an absolute delight, and really loves what she does. She knows how difficult of a subject it is to study, but promises the end results are worth the rollercoaster of a program that it can be. She is very supportive and encouraging. It is bit daunting that the graduation rate of this subject is only 2%. Eeek! Reasoning for 4 stars instead of 5 is: A) The parking. Show up at least 45 to 30 minutes early in order to find a spot thats not on the other side of the campus. But to all of those reviews about getting parking tickets, the registration process on the gateway site is pretty self explanatory. You need to register your car on there, not just pay for the parking permit with tuition. B) I have encountered one too many unsavory folks on campus in the short time (1 month) I have been here. Not sure if I just look super approachable, but at least once or twice a day a strange person will come up to me while I am eating a sandwich or snack, and just start having a weird conversation with me. I know I probably sound like an A-hole saying that. But at one point a man started talking about having his heroin junkie daughter handcuffed to her bed at home (among other things). I just nodded, finished my lunch, and told him I needed to get to my next class. I promptly called campus security about him and they seemed to have handled it. But it's just something that is offputting especially since there are so many dangerous things that can happen on school grounds now days. (There are active shooter posters everywhere). Now I just come to school wearing BIG headphones so no one will talk to me. I just can't handle these awkward encounters anymore. But other than that, this school is pretty awesome. I just wish it was closer to home so I didnt have to drive an hour each way, but unfortunately court reporting schools are fewer and further in between. read more

If your a Local check out this campus I am a proud former Charger!! Tips: I advise you park where the majority of your classes are or by your first/last class. Lot 9 usually has ample parking and when taking GE courses you'll mostly be near this lot. Lot 1 is where the Admin building is located and the only lot that offers 15min parking. Overview: At first the campus may seem a bit confusing or a lot to take it but within a week you will generally get a grip on the campus. In front of every 2 Buildings you will find a Campus Directory. The Buildings are labeled by the Subject: Fine Arts, Humanities, GYM I&II, SEM (Science Engineering Mathematics), Business and etc. Whether you are a first year or on your last year chances are you will have classes in the Humanities and SEM building. I suggest park in Lot 8/9. The best times to get parking is before 8AM or after 12PM!! the campus book store/Cafe are both located by the Admin building so park in Lot 1. In front of the SEM building you can locate a coffee cart during most days hours do vary here. read more

Paid for a parking permit during registration. Parked in the same spot for 5 weeks, same days and time. The very end of the row around no other cars to avoid door dings. My car isn't unforgettable no matter how many cars you see a day, especially at the end of the row far back away from other cars. I asked the first week of school, why I didn't get a sticker. Campus security (male with squad car) as well as in the bookstore (brunette working the counter 2nd from the end) told me that it's virtual and that there's no sticker. You "just pay for it on my gateway during registration and that's it" is what I was told by the multiple people I asked. Got a parking ticket for no permit displayed. My first one ever. Okay. Asked a campus parking enforcement officer right then and there. She was petite, blonde and on a bicycle with almost 90s like sunglasses on. She told me I was "in the system" on her little phone scanner that you type the license plate in and then told me how to appeal. I sent my appeal, which was upheld. Next step is to file for a hearing. To me, it's not worth going to a hearing. I'm a single mom, who has a lot of things going on in life to be taking time out for a hearing over $37. And I see why they do it this way, because most people, like me, just don't have the time to go to a hearing to fight for $37. I have no choice but to pay it, even though I do not agree at all with it at all considering I sent in an appeal to show I have a permit. A correctional fee of the $10 (as shown on the back of the citation) should have been issued, if anything, because I showed I do have a current and active parking permit, paid in full, before the ticket date. I'm writing this review because it's a shame that you're punished this way while trying to get an education that's already expensive and time consuming as it is over something that is so easy to correct without having to make people jump through hoops.
