It cost me an extra $355 for that mistake.

It is March 13, 2026 and they were here again about 2 - 3 weeks ago to fix the soffits again and now with strong winds the large triangle at the peak of my house (Historic Committee said they had to put it up there) has come down. Hoping we don't get rain, because it will probably leak down my walls. My husband left a message, just waiting to see if they call back Monday. Someone from Roach came by today (March 14, 2026) and said that they would put the piece back up. Apparently the crew that put it up in 2023 used nails that was too small.

Booko Brothers responded as soon as the tree was removed to secure the roof, finishing just ahead of the next torrential rain, which would have likely destroyed our home. They were instrumental, over a 3 month period, in facilitating a reasonable insurance settlement for us. They were powerful and productive advocates for us with our insurance company. The work they have done for us in restoring the structural integrity of our 100+ yr old home and rebuilding the interiors has been exceptional. They are dedicated and brilliant problems solvers! Old homes are quirky and always difficult to renovate - nothing is level; nothing is plumb. But when severely damaged, they can feel impossible! Their team has approached each problem with what can only be described as a real zeal for finding clever solutions to weird problems. It's not just their attention to detail that is noteworthy, but also their attention to the things WE care about. This was not just a rental property to us, it had been our family home and held much memory for us. They treated our sentimental issues and needs with sensitivity and a real commitment to accommodate us. We are very grateful to have had them walking through this difficult season with us! When the rep called me, he explained that they can't work with us because we have 8" gutters. Apparently, they do not have access to 8" gutters, and I was told they didn't have the equipment to install them anyway. They can only do 6" gutters. Maybe I am wrong, but I would have thought that would simply require a different size wrench if anything. Anyway, it very much seemed like they just did not want our business.

His integrity? Well, last winter, when he was plowing our driveway, he accidentally backed into the right rear corner of my car, which was parked outside, creating a significant dent. RIGHT AWAY, without hesitation, he told me about it AND offered to repair it at no cost (which he did, once the weather warmed up a bit). Looks as good as new. Now THAT is Integrity! I have a feeling he hasn't advertised a whole lot, so you may not have heard of this company; I urge you to give him a shot for lawn care, snowplowing, and maybe even car repair. He's a good man.

First let me get it out of the way that J & B did a fairly decent job cutting down both Team VP's…read moreand our parents' pine trees. No buildings were demolished, no small animals were squashed and none of my plants were injured as a result of the tree removal. After the work was actually scheduled, they arrived on time and did quick work and removed almost all of the diseased pine and took it away. I would probably hire them again for larger tree removal jobs in the future. Now, on to the details. As we live across the street from my parents we got an even better deal on the price, so the total cost for two large pine trees with the stumps removed was $800. We decided in June, when we spoke to the J & B estimator guy that we wanted to be put on the schedule and were promised that we would receive a phone call within two weeks that our houses were on the schedule. This did not happen. I've been thinking about a word to describe the woman who answers the phone at J & B and I've finally settled on curt. I like no nonsense people who don't ask a lot of unimportant questions and get to the problem quickly, but the woman at J & B made me nervous and uncomfortable. When I called mid July to see how their schedule was moving she very surprisingly told me that we were on it for that Thursday. When I had spoke to her before she told me that I would receive a phone call letting me know at least seven days before our tree was going to be cut down. *Why is all this important you ask? We have a dog who is terrified of loud noises and chainsaws fit in that noise bucket, so we needed to first of all be home on the day the tree gets taken down and secondly we needed to plan to give her noise medication.* The following Thursday the tree is removed and everyone (including the dog) does perfectly. The men finish in what feels like record time to be cutting down two very large pines and then leave the stumps still firmly rooted in the ground. As I have never in my life chopped down a tree or ground out a tree stump I had no idea the protocol, so I very tentatively called J & B and got a busy signal (apparently that is still a thing in 2018) which persisted for a full two hours. Once the phone started ringing again the even saltier then before receptionist told me that my Dad had spoken to her already (apparently my Dad and I need to start texting each other on a near continuous basis about our activities and conversations because once per day just is not cutting it for this woman) and that tree stumps are removed the day AFTER a tree is cut down and that is when I will receive my bill. I thanked her and hung up. Pot luck dinner parties with this woman must be humungous amounts of fun. The stump guys did show up as promised the next day and they did use their fancy machine to grind out the stump and in doing so created a large hole and a big pile of pine mulch in both our yard and our parents'. The hole and the pile of pine mulch are not things I'm super happy about because physically neither my parents nor I can fill the hole and excess pine mulch cannot be used for anything but pine trees and we just cut down our last one. This means that Mr. MVP is responsible for filling both holes and moving all the pine mulch to our neighbor's house to surround his pine trees, which makes Mr. MVP not particularly happy. Maybe I'll call J & B and ask the receptionist if she wants the extra mulch at no charge.

J & B was very reasonable at $35 per stump (approximately 18" in diameter each at the base) and we had a total of (4) stumps to grind. They came within a week, and ground down the existing 4 plus an additional stump (approximately 30" in diameter) in my yard. They were fast, efficient, responsive and reasonable. The rep who came to grind the stumps was knowledgeable, professional and engaged. Later that week, the same rep was at another friends house cutting down (3) sugar maple trees and grinding the stumps as well. Again, he (Bubba) was very timely, professional, reasonable and knowledgeable. They did meet someone else's quotes cost for the removal and grinding of the (3) maple trees, as they were not the lowest bidder initially.
