I heard about their potato salad 2 days ago. Looked at reviews and I would say at least 60 % commented on their potato salad. Now the next day I'm obsessed about trying this potato salad. It's about 25 mins from my house. Being lazy but couldn't let it go. So I went and got a container of potato salad and a lemon bar. Walking out forgot to ask for a fork. Because I knew as soon as I got in my car I was going to try it. Very very good. While thinking why is this so good? Hard to explain. It's creamy little bits of celery. Potato pieces are a perfect size. Just plain goodness. Moving on to the lemon square. Didn't try until later that evening. Not an expert on lemon squares but damn this was so so delicious. The tart/sweet perfect. But the buttery crust just perfect. One more bite, one more but it had me hooked like a junkie! All gone. Now the issue is it's late and they are closed if course. But I needed my fix. Now it's the next morning. 2 hours until they open. Decisions decisions... Very nice people. A wonderful experience. read more

My daughter is getting married! I was out of my comfort zone looking for caterers, I live nearby and always saw their sign. After getting a very low response online I called DMasti, what a BLESSING! Kathy walked me through the different scenarios, she took such good care of me, let me know what I should focus on, and helped me put together a delicious menu. All my guest were raving about the food! The wait staff really took care of me and my guests. They offered help wherever they saw a need. Not just for catering! D'Masti's is an excellent lunch spot. I particularly enjoy their sandwiches and wraps, but their deli is very good as well. There are plenty of salads you can order by the pound as well as a host of meals to-go that you can take and heat up for dinner. There are also numerous baked goods to choose from-- anything from brownies to lemon bars to loaf cakes to rice crispie treats. It's more of a grab & go type of place, so please note that there isn't any indoor seating, but they have a picnic table outside which comes in handy for the "Summer Grills" they host in their parking lot on Fridays. I'd say they are most famous for the potato salad, broccoli salad, chili, and muffalletas. My hubby loves their roast beef sandwiches, seasoned fries, and mozzarella sticks. I favor their Monterey Turkey Wrap or Caesar Salad Wrap with potato salad. Blue Islanders, don't forget to patronize this local spot! Someone asked me how my Yelping was going and added "you should try D'Masti in Blue Island." It's one of those places that's a gem and you probably will never hear of it unless someone tells you about. If you came across it on Yelp you would skip over it thinking it was just a caterer. This place is a holdover from when this area had a big Italian population. Stefanellis, another Italian deli in the area, has closed down. Good selection of hot and cold sandwiches including such unique sanwiches as pepper and egg, bologna, muffaletta, cheese or egg salad. I also notice the chicken caesar salad is a popular item. I got an Italian beef with a side of cole slaw. The signature item on the menu is the potato salad which is only a buck for a small serving. There are no seats inside but there are picnic tables outside. If the weather is nice sit outside and get a classic Italian sandwich, perhaps a mozzarella with tomato and basil. I've never used the catering service, but i've gotten food to go twice now, the first time i got the destroyer sub, which was really good, and had a lot of meat, and then the 2nd time i got the italian sausage and beef combo sandwich, with provolone on top, it was real big and good, i also got the potato salad, which was all right, not great, and 2 of their cookies which were also really good, reasonable prices too, and just a different sandwich option in the beverly morgan park area other than mr sub, which is definitely not as good as this, id def love to try some of their other sandwiches read more

How has no one reviewed this place, but the mediocre taco places get so many reviews? So not only do they cater, but there is also a full deli inside. You can get deli meat sliced there along with a ton of different salads, but they also make fresh soups and sandwiches. And cupcakes and cookies- oh the damage this place has done to my diet. Unfortuntately on of the bad storms this past July damaged the roof so the deli was closed, but have no fear- they took out a catering grill and some tables and a tent and set up an outdoor grill with burgers, and brats, and a tasty chicken sandwich. I'm eagerly anticipating when they reopen the deli so I can get some freshly fried potato chips. They catering service offers catered holiday dinner as well. For around $150 I got a turkey, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and potatos to feed 10! I just had to pick it up Thanksgiving day around noon and voila! Dinner was ready! One of my favorite hidden sandwich shops on the south side of chicago. While there isn't seating here, it's a great place for a quality sandwich or salad, and great soups. They also sell specialty items like dips, cooking sauces, etc. my favorite sandwich is the turkey with cranberry sauce, it's like having a mini thanksgiving dinner leftover. Also their cream of chicken and wild rice is amazing and they sell it by the container as well as by bowl. I've been going to D'Masti's for about 5 years. Definitely committed to them for life now! They recently catered our wedding. I cannot compliment them enough, and neither could our guests! We did not have to worry about a thing all night. Bar service was efficient, food was plentiful and diverse, late night snack was unique and delicious (mini beef sandwiches and a signature pizza.) There is a short lady I believe she must be related to Mark because she has been there a long time however she is rude,doesn't smile and acts like she hates her job ,.I have seen her interactions with the employees and she is just mean . Dan Masti made our wedding! After several unreturned calls and outrageous pricing from many other alleged "reputable" catering companies, Dan set our worries at ease the moment we met him. His down to earth demeanor and great follow up were very important to us, and after a wonderful tasting, we knew this was the place! I love love love their chicken and spinach panini.. yum! The bread size is larger than most, so it's a decent sized sandwich. We had a really bad experince with D'Mastis. We ordered our Christmas diner from there. We ordered a whole turkey, and we had it sliced, so the turkey was dry.That turkeyt was shimmer in something like a broth with no flavor at all and a foul odor. We had dressing, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes and all they were good. I called to the D'Mastis to complain about it, and they where nice saying that they will give a gift card., so they send me a gift card of $20.00 (which I return to them) as an apoligy. My point is I spent $127.00 dollars for a dinner that we did not eat and all I have was a $20.00 dollars gift card. Never will order again. read more

I use to go to D'Masti's for lunch at least once a week. I love supporting local businesses and they only use quality ingredients for the soups, salads, and sandwiches. However, last time I went, an employee tripped in the kitchen and knocked one of the cutting boards onto the floor. Another employee picked it up and placed it on the prep sandwich station. I then saw a few sandwiches made on it, without the bat of an eye (they were very busy). After paying for my meal, I asked to speak with the manager. I told her I loved coming there, but I was a bit turned-off by seeing sandwiches made on a cutting board which had been dropped on the floor. One of the employees decided to start arguing with me and said I got the wrong impression. They have a very small kitchen, it is very visible to the customers, and there is no way I could have been mistaken. I also work for a business in the area who hired them for a catering event and they served outdated cream with the coffee. This could be an outstanding place to get some great food, but I wouldn't risk it again. read more

Good food, slightly overpriced that I would let slide if the service didn't completely kill it. Come here for lunch and the people running it are rude and unfriendly. Once I orded a panini over the phone (which is basically a glorified grilled cheese) and when I got there to pick it up, had to wait another 15 minutes because they seemed to have made it wrong (although they gave me know excuse, just said it was coming up.) When I got it back to my place, it was cold and the cheese wasn't melted. How many people does it take to make this right? They've hired some people who seem outside the family that are really good at giving service, but the problem people still remain.
