Librarians and Library Staff are the heroes of America and JCPL Miller staff are a fine example of…read morethat. They are so helpful and kind it moves your heart. The projects and activities for kids are well thought-out and organized. I saw one staff member come up to a kid who reached out to her for a hug. I asked, "Is that your daughter"? and the librarian said,"No, just one of our children who's been coming here since she was little". I also met a young woman outside the library who was greeting other kids coming and going. She proudly identified herself as the "teen representative on the library board." Now that's the way we build leadership and civic responsibility. (Not mention the child's self-esteem). They are usually eager to tell me about the programs going on and assist me in finding and getting the books I want. I like their website and the services provided. I've signed up to get the text alerts for the activities going on and I love that they have so many digital books that are always available to access online. The ambiance of the library is also very happy. Very colorfully decorated with a steady stream of new books on display that you can checkout. This location has a friendly atmosphere and I enjoy seeing the steady stream of people participating in their programs (arts and craft, story time, sing a long, yoga, guitar lessons etc.). In this era of isolation it's a great place for people to go and interact with others if they choose to.

In fact, the location will be closed temporary for renovations at some point in the near future. So check it out while you still can. It's downtown and close to Grove Street. You can easily walk from the PATH to the library. You can also bike there. It's close to Van Vorst Park, as well. So it's a great place to stop if for a lazy Saturday. Also, apparently the reading time in the Children's area is jumping. The strollers come out in full force.

The Van Buren Branch is the NPL community library that serves the Ironbound in the East Ward. It's…read morein the middle of block between Ferry and Lafayette (it's around the corner from the PNC Bank on Ferry). The library is a sand-colored brick building with a small private parking lot. Like the other NPL branches, it serves the needs of the immediate community and provides library resources for adults and children. The neighborhood is home to a large proportion of residents from Portugal, Brazil, and Latin America. A distinguishing feature of this branch is its available Portuguese-language and Spanish-language collections, as well as library assistance in Portuguese and Spanish. There are computers available for Internet browsing, word processing, and access to the library's electronic resources. This location also offers computer classes. Newark Public Library is a wonderful library. Its branches are essential in supporting the NPL's noteworthy vision and mission. For that, I give the branches 4-stars for the work that its employees and volunteers do to enrich the lives of the people in the community.

It reminds me of DC where I previously lived. As I entered the building, I noticed that the workers were very helpful, and there was lots of space for reading the books. There was also a wide selection of books available as all the books on personal finances were there. I heard they have good services in here such as free CBT, which I would like to check out. I think I will come here again- good library and use of public space.

While there is a printer available, I don't believe they have a scanner that's available for public use. Fairly decent selection of books.
