Every dish we ordered was packed with flavor, and they had a very unique menu with lots of local/fresh ingredients. Adrianna speaks English, Italian, and Dutch, so it was a treat to understand her as she described the menu and gave us some recommendations. She was very helpful in offering suggestions as to what was freshest that day. She pointed out that there were no truffles available (as they did not find them)--- I think this is a great sign, as clearly they focus on ingredients that are fresh and available! We had fresh caught tuna, on a bed of arugula and crusted in pistachio -- best I've ever had. Also had a handmade spaghetti with fresh clams and a delicious tomato based sauce with fresh red peppers. Some sort of lemon creme brûlée (the proper name escapes me) for dessert --- I loved the touch of lemon. The only downside is that I wanted to try more! Everything on the menu looked marvelous Adrianna and her husband Paolo -the chef- truly know how to create a wonderful evening with delicious food, great hospitality, and they do it with passion. The assortment of fried seafood and veggies was delish! I loved the calamari and shrimp. Even the sardines weren't bad! After that, we moved on to antipasti and secondi. My sister and I ordered the lasagne because it's a minimum 2 person dish. My hubby ordered the steak because... well... men like red meat? Y'all. I need to wax poetic about this lasagna for a minute. It was super creamy, bubbly and hot. Layers and layers of fresh noodles with a savory meat ragu sauce on top and prosciutto cotto and mushrooms sprinkled throughout. All served in a GIANT cauldron, easily enough for four people even though it was billed as a two person dish. The steak was good, too. And, we also enjoyed the sautéed potatoes. But seriously. Get. I'm so excited to be able to log this 5-star review so many years after my first visit as Al Gondoliere is every bit as good as I remember! On this most recent visit, we shared the prosciutto and fig antipasti. While the prosciutto was great, the pairing with the fig fell a little short. (We should have gotten the melon.) This was the only blip in an otherwise perfect meal though, so no real complaints here! After the antipasti, we moved on to pasta. I had the ravioli with smoked cheese and pistachio sauce. My husband had the spaghetti bolognese. And my sister had the gnocchi with ricotta and tomato sauce. Every one was unique and delish. Don't ask me to pick a favorite because I can't. After all that (our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomaches that evening) we then had the sea bass and roasted potatoes. Both amazing. Capped it all off with homemade tiramisu and cinnamon semifredo with wine sauce. One word for ya about all of that. Y. U. M. During the meal, we enjoyed a bottle of the Garda Merlot. We spoke with one local about a recommendation that we passed walking by - - he pointed us and guided us to try Ristoro. (He said it was better than the other pizzeria nearly in front of us.) O.M.G. - - best risotto in the world! It was unbelievable... and the lasagne (while I don't normally eat lasagna) it was fantastic! My brother tried my lasagna and he said that it truly was the best he's ever had. The multiple layers with various cheeses, and just enough meat and sauce. Apparently most lasagnas in the States are overloaded with meat and then it becomes overpowering. But not here -- amazing!! And for as amazing as the lasagna was, the Risotto was hands-down ridiculously awesome! (Kinda jealous that I didn't get that plate...) I can't remember what was all in the risotto - - but the flavors were unbelievable. Creamy, cheesy... just a plate of heaven! But one of the restaurant employees, perhaps he was a manager??, was chatting with us about some real cool Facebook sites on Malcesine that we could use in our research for our Grandpa's WWII time. So there's a FB page "Malcesine d'Altra Tiempo" - - wow!! What amazing vintage photos... we would never had learned this, had we not stepped foot in here.
