I purchased a 2014 Toyota Rav4 Limited from DAHL Hyundai Mazda Subaru in Lacrosse Wisconsin in May 2025. It had around 113,600 miles at the time and although it had just arrived on the lot, an inspection was done and no issues were found. After buying the vehicle, I took it back to DAHL when it was time for an oil change as I was given a few free changes. The vehicle now has around 122,000 miles. At the beginning of 2026 the Rav began misfiring and stalling (even turning off while driving) in addition to a loud engine noise especially when starting. I brought it to DAHL service and was told I was going to need the timing chain and/or engine replaced which would cost $6000-$8000. I also was given the option of trade in but the value offered for the vehicle was only going to be $4500. I still have just under $5000 to pay on my loan and already have paid $15k+ on the vehicle. Deciding a second opinion would be best, I had my vehicle towed to a smaller repair shop in Lacrosse. Without even a deep inspection the immediately affirmed I had correctly concluded the need to replace the entire engine and timing chain was not necessary (especially at such low mileage for a Toyota). Based off their diagnostics, including the code readings, they replaced the solenoids and cam gear. The vehicle was running well but after only a few days once again, started misfiring and stalling. I had to get jumped to even get it back to the shop which is only a few miles away. The shop again did the code readings and also tested the oil pressure and it was very off, so it was deemed best to do a change. When accessing the oil components, they found the center post that goes through the filter was missing. This means that DAHL who changed my oil previously, left the post in the filter housing which caused all the issues. After putting in the new cup the pressure was back to normal and the vehicle ran perfectly, again proving the missing post in the housing was the overall problem. Since having the Rav returned to me, I have not had any further issues. All in all, the work done (replacing solenoids, cam gear, oil filter/cup and oil change) cost me about a $1000. All due to DAHL messing up a simple oil change! I have all the paperwork, the actual filter showing the missing center post, and word of testament from the smaller shop. Besides messing the oil change up by misplacing the center post of the filter, DAHL also lost my coolant reservoir cap! I was told I "needed a new one" when I had my vehicle looked at but the thing is, it was there when I bought the vehicle and no one but DAHL has done maintenance on the Rav so again, they misplaced a simple component! I will never recommend DAHL service to anyone nor will I return there. Quite frankly, I should be compensated because there was no reason I had to spend all this money and go through all this trouble! Although I enjoyed my initial experience when I purchased the vehicle, my dealings with DAHL are most definitely going to be continually impacted by this extremely negative and costly service ordeal. read more

Had great service here with our 2017 crosstrek needing an urgent repair (front axle) while we were on vacation from Chicago. Our service rep (Caden) managed to squeeze us in the same day as we called, texted a video of what needed doing soon after we dropped the car off & gave us a reasonable estimate. I purchased a used 2021 Subaru Forrester with 41,460miles on it on 2/3/24. on 4/23/25, my battery died, I had to have it jumped and then drove it to Dahl Subaru to have the battery checked. I was told that I needed a new battery, which I indeed needed. I stated that I've only had the car for 14 months and have only put 9,000 miles on it. I asked them how old the battery was. They looked it up and said it was dated August of 2020. I then stated that I was unhappy that I was not made aware of it at the time of purchase. The Service Manager stated that he could understand my frustration but all he could do would be to give me $50 off shop labor and fees, anything further, I would have to talk to the Sales Manager (Tony). The Sales Manager was not open to any negotiation of cost. He was fine selling me a car with a 4 1/2 year old battery without my knowledge but was not willing to do anything about my concern. My new $390 battery (-$50 from the service dept) has a 30 month warranty, which if I calculate correctly is 2 1/2 years. Obviously selling me a car with a 4 1/2 year old battery was of no concern to the Sales manager. What was the continued life expectancy this old battery, you can bet not very long. I will always ask how old the battery is if I ever buy another used Vehicle. Thank you Tony for teaching me this lesson. The Service Staff were great. Beware of 3 day used car policy. I asked flat out can I return the car if I find something wrong with it before signing papers as I noticed the vehicle was shifting hard. "Yes, we offer a 3 day no hassle return policy." Unfortunately they left out it would cost me $1,200 in fees to do so. They care more about making money than taking care of their customers. Make sure you check for floor mats in your vehicle. I was not given any with my purchase. Seemed like I was putting them out when I asked for someone to find them for me. I left my car to be serviced. A mouse had gotten into it and I needed the mouse removed, and any damage caused by the mouse to be fixed. Even though they knew what I needed done, knew that there was a mouse, and agreed to do the work, when I left it there the service manager Kyle Martin decided that he couldn't have his serviceman do the repair because the vehicle had a strong mouse smell. Of course it had a strong mouse smell, that's what the appointment they had agreed to was for! Even worse, the vehicle had been in just a week or two before with the same smell (the mouse has been in there since late summer, it just took me a while to figure it out) and they had no problem doing the work required then. Furthermore, they agreed to inflate the driver side tires, which had nothing to do with being inside the vehicle or any smell, but they didn't even do that. Last, when, per his request, I called Kyle, instead of offering an apology, he exaggerated how bad the smell was (he said it almost made him throw up) and suggested that I should take the vehicle to an exterminator first before they work on it. If he thinks it smells bad now, imagine how bad it would smell after the mouse dies! He offered no apology for the inconvenience, he tried to blame Caden, the head of the service department for not properly relaying the reason why they didn't work on the vehicle, he tried to justify his decision, and then, after I politely waited for him to present his side, as I began to politely state why I disagreed with his decision, he interrupted me! Even though it's an inconvenience, I will never return to Dahl Subaru. I feel so strongly about this that I am now driving more than twice the distance to go to a Subaru dealer in Madison--one that treats its customers with respect. I strongly recommend that anyone needing service on their Subaru look elsewhere! read more

I have unfortunately a very negative review for the Service Department at Dahl Automotive in La Crosse, Wisconsin. This is disturbing to me especially, as I have had a more than 20-year history of positive experiences with them, both in sales and service. This time however, they have not lived up to their prior professionalism. On Thursday, June 11, 2015, my wife brought our 2010 Subaru Forester to their Service Department, that because of a new and disturbing noise. Both we and the initial service representative there surmised that the culprit was a simple problem with the exhaust system. An initial estimate, quite reasonable and low, was quoted. Later that day I received a call from the Service Department, indicating that there was no problem at all with the exhaust system! Rather, I was told that they had discovered that the offending noise was coming instead from faulty wheel bearings. They recommended three sets of new wheel bearings, along with nothing at all being requisite for the exhaust system. I did not feel that I had a choice but to agree with their advice. After a few days further delay, due to the need to order parts, I was able to get my vehicle back on June 16, 2015. The bill was over $1,600. Sadly, the abnormal noise was still there! We paid a lot of money for three sets of wheel bearings, which I remain far from convinced were necessary, and we still had the offending noise present! My wife took the vehicle back immediately, and a different technician found and fixed a simple problem with the exhaust system, the very problem we had been expecting. I sent a formal written letter of complaint to Dahl Automotive that same day. To my surprise and dismay, I have received absolutely no response whatsoever, that as of now 12 more days. I urge the utmost caution for anyone in this region who is considering having service done at Dahl Automotive in La Crosse, Wisconsin. My wife and I have already let them know that they have lost our business. read more

MAJOR neglect to quality from this service department at Dahl Subaru in Lacrosse. I bought my 2016 Crosstrek new from this dealership and had a high belief in their quality service. I brought my vehicle in for an inspection due a squeak of the belt or related to the belt was my guess. I went ahead and had an oil change as well although early. Kyle took my concern of squeaking belt to the mechanics I trusted. The service guys found nothing visibly wrong other than needing new filters (Although i had heard this squeak for 6 weeks. Kyles "professional "opinion was this was due to an underbody car wash.) Really?! Still, I trusted they knew. One month after this check THE BELT BREAKS WHILE OUT ON THE ROAD, completely coming apart. Because of the distance to Subaru, I called the local Jeep dealership who did tow my vehicle in and repair the issue. This had to wait on Subaru parts to be shipped in. According to jeep if someone came to them and mentioned a squeak from the belt, they would have taken the belt off, checking the tensioners and pulleys. Jeep now questions your intelligence as well DAHL. The issue was in fact a tensioner. (One of the 'wheels' the belt runs on.) Therein lies the squeak. In trying to speak to Subaru, hoping to resolve the issue, Kyle, prior to repair from Jeep tells me, "Maybe a mouse chewed on your belt." What kind of answers are these from the manager of the million $ service center at Dahl?! I made other attempts to justify this situation through messages and emails with NOT ONE reply. How is it that Subaru claims to offer the very best service and asks for surveys on how they can improve when they suck this bad?! My bill at Jeep including towing was pricey and I believe should not have happened if Subaru had done their job. Are they trained mechanics?! In one more attempt to speak with Kyle, I asked him to review the notes on the day of service to find out what diagnostics were done per my concern of a belt issue. Kyle proceeded to tell me that there were no notes on a belt concern at all but only a standard service and a routine multi-point inspection. Kyle then states, this was not a fault of Subaru. Kyle recalls I had a belt concern so why isn't this in the notes??? How is that possible? Hmmmm, I suppose it would be easy to delete those little details in notes. DON'T TRUST THEM to take care of your vehicle. They are dishonest negligent Crooks. read more

This review is more for my sales person, Jeff Krause, but also loved my experience with the dealership. I had decided I wanted a new 2017 Subaru Legacy after a test drive at the local Subaru dealership here in Madison, WI. Loved the car, disliked my sales experience there. So I called around to all dealers in a 3 hour radius of Madison to get quotes. Though this exercise, Jeff really stood out. As I required a trade-in of my 2011 Subaru Impreza for this purchase, he worked with the Dahl team to guarantee a trade-in value (considering I was accurate in my description of the vehicle condition), he also paid attention to the exact details of what I was looking for and didn't try to make a quick sale with inventory. Once we decided I needed to order a car, Jeff went ahead to do so but the delivery time from Subaru was much longer than anticipated. Because of this he found my exact car, already intended for delivery to dealer stock, and re-assigned the car to me and I ended up with the car even faster than if delivery timelines were normal. Come purchase day, the process was quick, painless, and smooth! All checked out with my trade-in, I received the negotiated trade-in value and I was on my way with my new legacy. If I could rate zero stars, I would. This place is ok on the sales side, but the service side is the absolute worst. 3 plus hour wait for a scheduled oil change. They forgot about me when the shuttle returned and I had to walk to work. Multiple trips in for a service light on my wife's brand new crosstrek that I'm convinced they did not fix but just turned off the light on try's 1, 2, and 3. Finally resolved on the 4th visit. "A spider web in an air line". Bought a used Kia under warranty. Leaked axle fluid all over my garage on the FIRST night home. Had it back in, next day found a crack in the bottom of the windshield. They swore it happened in the first 2 days I had it - Although it was in the shop for 1 of those days. Fought and fought and the manager said they would only cover 1/2 the cost. I ended up emailing Tyler Dahl directly to get the issue resolved. This place has been a nightmare, stay far away. love Subaru, on our 2nd one. I will never buy from this dealer, nor service my vehicles with this company, unless it's warranty work. I've never had such bad experiences. It's truly unreal. read more
