Was taking a day trip to Hilo, saw it off the side of the road and decided to try it. I had the beef curry with a side of gyoza. The gyoza definitely tasted freshly made, unlike a lot of places that use frozen ones. The beef curry was good but lacked a bit of spice and could've had a little more beef as well. Whenever I'm back Hilo, I may give it another try, to try the ramen. read more

I have had good experiences eating here. The waitresses here are very attentive and friendly. If you don't like your food they will ask you to pick something else which was really nice. I would recommend this place if you like noodles. Their other dishes are also very good with rice! read more

Daiichi Ramen is a ramen chain with a few locations on Oahu, and recently opened near the Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo (between Genki Sushi and Verizon). We don't have many ramen joints here, so I was happy to see the Grand Opening sign for Daiichi! We tried it out a few days after the opening and were not disappointed. The service was quick and attentive. Our orders were taken, dishes cleared, and waters filled all very quickly. Their menu is broken down into: ramen/udon, cold noodle, soup, friend rice, and curry dishes. My favorite and best bang for your buck are the special combos, where you can get a mini ramen plus one or two side dishes for $9.25/11.25. I tried the tonkotsu with gyoza, and my husband got the tan tan with mini curry. It was everything we hoped for and consistent with the Oahu locations taste-wise. One thing to note is they have Happy Hour from 2:30-5:30 where you can get a free gyoza with purchase. They are also offering 15% off your total bill until July 30th. Been here 2x so far... My favorite dish is the pork fried rice. On both occasions the service has been great! Friendly waitresses, fast service & great food. The ramen base can be a bit salty, so I may ask for low sodium options, next time. I would definitely recommend to try the food at this place :) read more

I'm a ramen lover and I'm sad to report that this place didn't do it for me. I ordered the gyoza ramen. The broth and the noodles were just ok. Tasted like it came from a packet. The gyoza itself had waaay too much ginger. It was not enjoyable at all. The best part about the dining experience was how fast our food came out. read more

Got the miso ramen. It wasn't anything special. The noodles were way over cooked and almost mushy and the soup tasted like it came out of a Sun Noodle package. Other tables got their food before ours even though we placed our order earlier. Wouldn't patronize again. read more

Not my cup of tea. The water tasted like chlorine and the service was not very kind. When our food was served, the waitress dropped our dishes onto the table and left without looking at us nor did she ask if there was anything else we wanted/needed. The food itself was terrible. Not sure why this place is rated so low at 3 1/2 stars the food is great and service is fast. We've been here wife and both times we were not disappointed. The spice level for the spicy beef ramen is called medium, though for me just over mild. The beef medallions might be a bit larger then bite sized but manageable and the broth is smooth and full of flavor. Definitely shaping up to be our go to noodle house in Hilo. Well done. read more

Their ramen is delish. My favorite flavor is the shio which is sea salt. It taste so clean. This time I had the wonton ramen and ordered it with the shio. Their portions are very generous and I couldn't finish again. My niece had the beef curry ramen. She said it was good and that she'd have it again. This is my go to place for ramen. read more

This new restaurant opened this past Tuesday (7/16/19) so of course, there were a lot of people waiting outside when my mom and I tried it tonight (also since it's a Friday evening). Since it was just the two of us, we got seated right away. I'm very surprised as to how fast our orders took to come out! My mom ordered the Chicken Katsu Ramen and that took maybe less than 5 mins to come out. I ordered the Zaru Udon and that came out maybe 30 seconds after the Ramen (also with our side orders-Calamari and Chicken Kastu). The food was absolutely delicious and very flavorful! My mom told me, "I don't really dip my katsu into the sauce but their sauce is good!" All in all, wonderful, fast, and friendly staff, delicious food, and beautiful ambiance! One thing I'd like to know is what they put in their Tonkatsu Ramen. My mom wanted to order the Tonkatsu Ramen but the waitress said "We put peanut butter inside, is that okay?" Not too sure if i heard "peanut butter" correctly (especially since the restaurant was kind of loud...). read more

The ramen was mediocre, it didn't taste like traditional Japanese ramen but the portion sizes were good. The customer service was lacking, no one asked us how we were doing. They simply took our order and gave us the check afterwards. Overall, it was just okay... nothing special. If you want real ramen, Daiichi is probably not the best option. read more

I did a take out. I was there in less than 5 minutes and my order was ready. I took it home. I only live 20min away but for some reason my bowl was leaking soup. I was so disappointed. I had half the bowl left so I quickly spilled it in my noodles to salvage what I can. It was ok. Compared to the Tonkatsu ramen I usually get at Ton Ton ramen Waipahu on Oahu, this is kind of mediocre or not even that tasteful. I've been to Daiichi in Kona a few times and had such amazing experiences. So when I seen that hilo had one now too I got excited. I got my Hope's up to quickly. The ladies got me a table quickly got me some water and menus right away. I forgot something in my car so I had to run back outside. As soon as I came back in and sat down I was asked if I was ready to order I informed the lady I wasn't. Within the time it took me to pick up the menu off the table she was back and asked what I was going to order. I still was not ready. I could not find the list of drinks on the menu so I proceeded to ask her what drinks they had aside from water. She rolled her eyes at me and listed what drinks they had available. I ordered a tea and a sprite. She came back with the drinks quickly. We wanted a Gyoza appetizer to start so I asked her what was inside of the gyoza because I have a shellfish allergy. Instead of recognizing and listening to what I said she pointed at the menu and said 4PC or 6pc so, I repeated my question and she and she looked at me confused. I had explained shrimp,crab, lobster, ect. Then she told me there was pork in gyoza so we ordered that to start. For the main dishes we ordered a chicken katsu curry and a chicken katsu ramen amd a side of pork fried rice. Mean while waiting for food I'm concerned that some sort of shellfish will end up in my food because she didn't know what shellfish was. The food came out quickly kudos to the chef. But extremely out of order I recieved the bowl of ramen first but they forgot my katsu for the katsu ramen. Then the gyoza came out we ate it and they were delicious. 10 minutes passed and the chicken katsu curry and pork fried rice came but still no katsu for the ramen. I had reminded her that I was waiting on katsu that was supposed to come with the ramen and it's now getting cold because it was the first thing out. She finally brought it to the table no apology and never came back to check how things were going. She proceeds to leave the bill on the table mid meal. The food definitely carries this restaurant amazing food. Not so much the service. I do not think I will be back to the hilo location. read more

Fast, friendly, and soooooo good udon. We went late at night after missing dinner and it was a sight to watch the workers jet around the restaurant. Decided to come here while visiting hilo. We were definitely satisfied. Portions were large and the price was reasonable. The ramen was good and the broth was amazing.
