    paperlicious!
    Quentin D.

Many years ago when friends of mine got married the invitations arrived on very singular paper, I was told it came from a shop in town specialising in this sort of thing... honestly I thought it sounded crazy, no business could survive selling fancy paper - thats the sort of thing children collect... or certainly did when I was a kid. cut to 10 years on and Q is wandering through Daintree on a mission... it is to do with a toddler and a biscuit (see my cake cafe review) but I also have another mission, wedding invites, this time for myself. I get what I have been told to get and am shocked by the price, a few sheets pf paper, a couple of wax stamps... 65Euro. So thats how they stay in business!

    Impressive entrance!

Gorgeous paper shop offering do-it-yourself stationery products and advice for wedding invitations, personal stationery and all sorts of other invitations. Daintree is an enchanting store which is filled top to toe with beautiful recycled paper products, notebooks, photo albums and wrapping paper. The shopfront and entrance are tastefully decorated with a variety of paper products which entice passers-by into the store (it got me in there, anyway!) Advice on invitation making is scattered around the store, and being an Aussie I appreciated the warning on the side of some of the paper products - do not send to OZ or NZ - our customs department is SOOOOO strict on any kind of paper product and will not allow these babies into the country. Apparently if you do try to send this handmade paper to Australasia the lovely customs people confiscate the original and forward on a photocopy. So basically just save your pennies and email your invites to those countries ;-) If you were planning a wedding or a baby shower I imagine this would be a good place to organise the admin side of things. It's definitely a pleasant place to shop for gifts and ancillaries. And the paper gift bags behind the counter are perfect for holding precious gifts. There is the 'hidden' Cake Cafe out the back, but that's another review for another time!

They're stocking the fine-tip oil brushes and boxed pastel sets that would give any weekend artist a case of the vapours. But... does it have to be so hidden? I mean, how will people know that they can get sets of jelly jewels for their windows, quill and in sets, pipe cleaner animal kits and more if this place is so set back from the rest of the shopping area on this sizable centre's second floor... Could it switch spots with that Bershbear&M clothing shop a few doors down? It's not like that place is revolutionising fashion anyway. Maybe? No? Sigh. I'll just have to keep going myself to keep them in business.

Rather, it's a place to come if you're looking for fun, artsy activities. Whenever I visit home, my sister and I like to do random fun activities on lazy afternoons, often scooting over to the local art store to buy paint by numbers or stained glass kits. Yes I know that these items are primarily aimed at children, and yes I know that I am 25 years old. But are you aware how challenging some of those huge paint by numbers are? When you're done, you feel straight up ACCOMPLISHED. Anyway, Art & Hobby is basically a store filled to the brim with this kind of stuff. It's an awesome place for parents or babysitters to get some fun, creative and cool projects for their kids to spend rainy days with. From the ubiquitous paint by numbers to more elaborate model kits, this place has everything. They sell tons of school supplies, once again making it perfect for kids, and all sorts of pens, stationary, gifts and decorations. They also currently have Halloween decorations, projects and costumes.

We didn't really want to get her anything too touristy like a postcard because we were only about an hour down the road but we did want to get here something unique to Slane so when we stumbled upon the Slane Craft Creative we knew we were in luck. The shop itself is made up of crafts made by different creative folk. There's everything from up-styled furniture, candles, diaries and framed pictures of the beautiful Slane. Each section of the shop is divided up in to different categories and each category has a cute wee biography explaining the creators of the pieces and the history. We ended up looking around for about an hour until we finally found a locally made candle set for my mum. The lady working in the shop that day offered to gift wrap the candle at no extra cost which was a nice touch. She then explained the concept of the store - she said that each person who exhibits/sells there does one day a week working in the store and they each support their fellows designers products. We thought this was just lovely and it really made an impression on us. The shop is lovely and serine and there's absolutely no pressure to purchase anything if you just want to browse. I can't find a single fault with the Craft Collective and I highly recommend popping in if you're in Slane! An easy five stars!

It is a great mix of arts and crafts and their stock seems to change and update regularly.
