No more random Groupons for me, I've found the real deal at Threshold Wellness. I have been going to Julia for a year and a half. She has helped me navigate my way though a very difficult time in my life in many ways. Even when she's not working on me, I still incorporate different techniques that she has taught me into my daily life that continue to make a difference. She is extremely talented, I highly recommend her to anyone seeking individualized treatment in massage, Myofascial Release, and Craniosacral Therapy. I have also taken a few of her very thoughtful workshops and would recommend them as well. I recently also started to see Sarah who was recommended to me by Julia. Although I don't want to limit Sarah's talents, the one word that makes me think of her is "strong." I never imagined that so much strength could come out of her hands. First she asked me to pay before receiving service, then pressured me to pay in cash instead of card saying that it's not worth it to pay by card because of the extra credit card fee. Then she asked for a tip before I even got the massage. I gave $5 and she said "wow that's not very much" in mandarin. Then she proceeded to give me the massage which just felt like she was rubbing me with oil. She said she was going to use a particular oil that was more expensive and kept saying it's a special oil and she only uses it on special guests. Then asked for more tip at the end. I was uncomfortable the entire time given the social interaction with her and the massage was terrible. If you'd like to engage in awkward conversations while having someone rub you then this is the place to go.

There was a separate room I could change in and they offered a robe so that I did not have to change again before my facial. I got the customized 60 minute facial and had Kristen as my esthetician. I really enjoyed the facial, Kristen was very informative and I felt like there was the perfect amount of conversation and relaxation. I believe she did 2 different masks, extractions and gave me a face and arm massage which was amazing. She had asked if I was using a retinol treatment, which I was so she did not do a peel but suggested it for the next time. I really enjoyed my time at Nirvana. The only thing I would say is that I still noticed some blackheads in and around my nose and I wished the extractions were a bit more thorough to remove them.

I started going to her a few years ago when I was suffering from chronic back and neck pain. Nothing seemed to help my back pain. I went to a chiropractor, accupuncture, other massage therapists, physical therapy, you name it. I would feel better for an evening or two, and then the specter would return. But the thing that finally made the muscles in my neck and back calm down, and let me live a little, was a series of massages from Julia Taylor. I went through six sessions over a couple months. Julia was able to teach my muscles, that it was going to be alright, and they could just relax, and get strong and healthy again. Now when I feel a tinge of discomfort trying to work its ways back in, I go to Julia and let her work her magic on me.

(I've emailed her more than once when I've tweaked something in my neck or back and sent her a desperate "Help! I know you're busy, but I need you!" email.) She's been able to "read" my body like no one I've ever met, and she always comes into a session knowing what we'd worked on the past few times. I've recommended her to friends, and they've all gone back to her repeatedly. Her prices are quite reasonable - $85 for a 75 minute session; $100 for 90 minutes. She also frequently runs package specials - get on her email list to find out about these. Be warned - she usually runs a little long with her sessions. It might wreak a little havoc on your schedule, but who can complain about a few extra minutes of massage? Honestly, she's good enough that, should I ever move out of Philly, I'd come back just to see her.

My first massage was ok, solid but nothing that would have pushed me to return. She was kind, listened to my concerns, but I need very specific type of massage and therapy for my needs. She absolutely tried her best, it just wasn't up to par for me. My second massage with cupping was much better, from the owner Sara! Her technique was very good, and what I'm usually looking for. She did a great job warming up my body, slowly increasing mobility and stretching certain areas, and then isolated certain muscles and kneaded a lot of my tension out in the areas I expressed to her. I'm not sure if cupping actually does anything, feels more like a pseudoscience to me. But based on my experience, I would absolutely return for a massage with Sara. The space is absolutely beautiful as well, see pictures. I would recommend this business based on my experiences! I have not attended yoga or their sauna yet, so cannot comment on that.
