Mike is especially intelligent when it comes to all parts of the body and his work is unlike any other massage service I've ever received. If you are open to it, he does a superb job of explaining my body to me, why it moves (or doesn't!) in the way it does, and helpful tips of what I can do on my own to fortify the treatments. I've recently begun working with their acupuncturist, Michelle, whose warm and thoughtful disposition is beat only by the way I feel after a session with her - incredible. I have a sense that Haven is just at the beginning of their impact on the Philadelphia community and cannot recommend this place enough.

In my first session, I've expressed to Missy about my chronic migraine condition and the constant pain in the back of my neck and shoulders. She listened and she worked hard on the specific areas I have told her. Her techniques are phenomenal. Her patience is admirable. She had "good intentions" and genuinely wanted to relieve my pain and I really appreciate that, as it rarely comes nowadays. The day after my massage was the first day I was able to take a break from all my medications after having a 2-week migraine attack. It was quite liberating. I have been seeing Missy in a weekly basis for months now and I must say, she has definitely helped relieve my symptoms. I am hoping to come off all my medications eventually with the help of massage and other alternative methods. With that said, I am very grateful to meeting Missy and all that she does....and I highly recommend her. :)

I was scanning her Venmo as I left to leave a tip but WiFi wasn't working and she called me to come back in because it hadn't come to her phone yet. I asked if there was someone else and she said the other person is sleeping in...weird. I ended up speaking mandarin so communication could be clear. First she asked me to pay before receiving service, then pressured me to pay in cash instead of card saying that it's not worth it to pay by card because of the extra credit card fee. Then she asked for a tip before I even got the massage. I gave $5 and she said "wow that's not very much" in mandarin. Then she proceeded to give me the massage which just felt like she was rubbing me with oil. She said she was going to use a particular oil that was more expensive and kept saying it's a special oil and she only uses it on special guests. Then asked for more tip at the end. I was uncomfortable the entire time given the social interaction with her and the massage was terrible. If you'd like to engage in awkward conversations while having someone rub you then this is the place to go.

There was a separate room I could change in and they offered a robe so that I did not have to change again before my facial. I got the customized 60 minute facial and had Kristen as my esthetician. I really enjoyed the facial, Kristen was very informative and I felt like there was the perfect amount of conversation and relaxation. I believe she did 2 different masks, extractions and gave me a face and arm massage which was amazing. She had asked if I was using a retinol treatment, which I was so she did not do a peel but suggested it for the next time. I really enjoyed my time at Nirvana. The only thing I would say is that I still noticed some blackheads in and around my nose and I wished the extractions were a bit more thorough to remove them.

I started going to her a few years ago when I was suffering from chronic back and neck pain. Nothing seemed to help my back pain. I went to a chiropractor, accupuncture, other massage therapists, physical therapy, you name it. I would feel better for an evening or two, and then the specter would return. But the thing that finally made the muscles in my neck and back calm down, and let me live a little, was a series of massages from Julia Taylor. I went through six sessions over a couple months. Julia was able to teach my muscles, that it was going to be alright, and they could just relax, and get strong and healthy again. Now when I feel a tinge of discomfort trying to work its ways back in, I go to Julia and let her work her magic on me.

She's everything anyone could ever want in a massage therapist: kind, gentle-hearted, professional, intuitive. Perhaps my favorite thing about Julia is how quick she is to respond to email requests, often squeezing me in the next day. (I've emailed her more than once when I've tweaked something in my neck or back and sent her a desperate "Help! I know you're busy, but I need you!" email.) She's been able to "read" my body like no one I've ever met, and she always comes into a session knowing what we'd worked on the past few times. I've recommended her to friends, and they've all gone back to her repeatedly. Her prices are quite reasonable - $85 for a 75 minute session; $100 for 90 minutes. She also frequently runs package specials - get on her email list to find out about these. Be warned - she usually runs a little long with her sessions. It might wreak a little havoc on your schedule, but who can complain about a few extra minutes of massage? Honestly, she's good enough that, should I ever move out of Philly, I'd come back just to see her.

My first massage was ok, solid but nothing that would have pushed me to return. She was kind, listened to my concerns, but I need very specific type of massage and therapy for my needs. She absolutely tried her best, it just wasn't up to par for me. My second massage with cupping was much better, from the owner Sara! Her technique was very good, and what I'm usually looking for. She did a great job warming up my body, slowly increasing mobility and stretching certain areas, and then isolated certain muscles and kneaded a lot of my tension out in the areas I expressed to her. I'm not sure if cupping actually does anything, feels more like a pseudoscience to me. But based on my experience, I would absolutely return for a massage with Sara. The space is absolutely beautiful as well, see pictures. I would recommend this business based on my experiences! I have not attended yoga or their sauna yet, so cannot comment on that.
