Smash burger & fries were really good!

Excellent service & love the old school feel! Extremely friendly staff, clean, well maintained.

Update: The parking lot was newly paved which is a big plus, and the food was good and hot

    Interior - very small-town, old-timey.

I walked over to Dairy Cheer during a recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Pikeville. The sign boasts that it's the home of "the original Smashburger", and Lord knows, I have an insatiable appetite for a good burger. The place is old-timey and could probably use a good paint job. The dining area was pretty empty at dinner time, but their drive-thru was slammed during my whole meal. I was a glutton and wanted to try just about everything (including the Pikevilly Cheesesteak!). I ordered a Smashburger, add cheese and bacon; onion rings; Fresca, in a can (charmed to pieces by this, reminds me of my granny's); and a peanut butter/chocolate shake (look away, Judge-y). I tore into my grease feast: the burger, despite the toppings of shredded lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo, was quite dry, cold and flavorless. A bit of a letdown, as I had high expectations for "the original Smashburger." The buttered, toasted bun was a nice touch, however it wasn't a sturdy enough bun to handle all the toppings. The burger kind of reminded me of a SLIGHTLY tastier Sonic Drive-Thru burger. However, the bacon and pickles on the sandwich were amazeballs - so flavorful, with smoky, chewy goodness from the bacon and cold, thick crunchy pickle slices. The saving grace of the sandwich. The onion rings were good, more like an onion funnel cake, a great glob of them mounded and battered and deep fried. They were definitely freshly sliced and prepared to-order, which is always wonderful. However, this portion is for 2-3 people to split, and after peeling off several greasy rings, I was feeling a bit gross and queasy. The peanut butter and chocolate shake was DIVINE. My favorite part of the meal. Rich, thick but still slurpable through a straw, and blended with - I swear - real peanut butter swirls of goodness. Pure fatty deliciousness. I'd return just for the shake next time. Prices were reasonable, you get diner-style food for diner-style prices, in an old-fashioned fast food setting.

    Order at the counter.

If you're staying at the Holiday Inn Express down the road, this is a great option instead of the familiar fast food restaurants. The booths and decor of the place in general needs an update but it's clean and spacious. The menu, some hand written and all over the place, is extensive and cheap! You can get anything from burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, to milk shake and ice cream. The food is nothing out of the ordinary but good, cheap and plentiful. Order at the front and sit down like any other fast food places. I wouldn't recommend the pumpkin spice latte, overly sweet and thick. There is also a drive thru.

Love the old 50's feel of the packaging!

Stopping on our way to adopt a puppy, this was an unexpected diner on the side of the highway. Due to my son's dairy allergy, the name alone makes me shiver. Upon entering, the atmosphere didn't really help my opinion much. (Think Dairy Queen from 15 years ago.) Their billboard boasted home of the smashburger. We decided to each try one. We also got onion rings and fries just to round out the grease bomb. :) The burger would have been fantastic except it wasn't very warm. The onion rings were good but greasy and the outer skin of the onion was used. Yuck. I didn't visit the restrooms but it's kind of troubling that you have to walk through the food prep area to get to them. One sneeze is enough to make me grossed out. :P I did get a milkshake that was pretty good. But it wasn't Frosty Bossie. I'd go back but I wouldn't make a special trip for it.

Every time my family visits Pikeville we come here, and the food, customer service, and homey feeling of the place never disappoints.

We were passing through and it looked like a fun place to stop. The staff was lovely but the food was cold, overcooked and bland.

My fiance and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our service. The only thingt that I would have…read morechanged is the quality for the price. The chicken quesadilla is delicious and my sushi bowl was as well, but for the amount of food, it is absolutely not worth that. We had a kind server and loved the vibe of the place, I would definitely be happy to eat there again, perhaps getting something different like an actual roll.

First of all, the manager was kind and responsive and brought the moms at the table (it was…read moreMother's Day!) a cute insulated wine cup with a clever message. That's the good part. Sadly, our server (I believe it was Emma - hard to see because she was so quick to bolt by), was very inattentive. When we placed our drink orders she asked orders for each of the other three in our party - even asked my husband twice - and was about to leave our table before I had to stop her to ask her for a drink. My BLT salad with salmon was rather flat - the chopped veggie situation was nice but dressing was bland even after asking for lemon when no balsamic was available. Salmon was cooked nicely. But what made me write my review is that first, I had to get up to ask a manager for something for the salad after trying four times to catch our server's attention. Then she came to our table mid-meal - genuinely while my daughter in law and I were only halfway through our entrees - to ask us to check out. My husband was in the restroom and I had to ask her to wait until he returned! After many years in service, this was very off-putting and should be a no-brainer. She did ask a couple if times on-the-go if we needed anything, but these issues made that feel like an after-thought. Hubby loves Drake's so I'm sure we will return, but honestly would probably ask for a different server.
