We originally stopped by the location up in Duluth, but we opted to wait until going to their main factory in Grantsburg before purchasing anything. This location of Burnett Dairy Cooperative is basically an entire complex, with a gas station and convenience store, all the milk storage tanks easily within view, the corporate offices and factory, and then this store filled with tons of different dairy products from all over Minnesota and Wisconsin. It was an absolute madhouse walking in at 2PM - it was so crowded inside there was barely any room to even walk around and browse. I'm honestly not sure why they are so popular. We especially wanted to order the fried cheese curds since their old menu stated they were made with fresh Burnett Dairy curds, battered and fried in house. Well, that's no longer the case. They now get their cheese curds from a supplier and it isn't made from Burnett Dairy curds, according to the cashier that I talked to. Oh well, the next best thing? Ice cream! We went up to the ice cream station, lined up for a while, and then learned that, nope, they don't make their hard scoop ice cream either. It's from Cedar Crest. They also don't make their own soft serve base! The only thing they do is churn a mix from an external supplier in their machine. Seriously? If I'm looking at a random drive-in or candy shop, or a middle of nowhere ice cream shop, sure use Sysco or other commercial food supplier. But this is a dairy cooperative we're talking about! They should be making their own products! As insult added to injury - for our fourth option we wanted to try the fresh cheese curds. They sell them for $6.99/lb, freshly packaged up on a table right near the check out registers. Unfortunately the bags were all around 1lb and we didn't want to commit to such a large package. Luckily we saw that one of the employees was bagging up more fresh cheese curds in the back. We asked if we could get a half pound and they said no, the minimum was one pound! No samples either! I really don't understand this store. This is a dairy cooperative that doesn't seem to make 90% of the items that they sell in the store. Our visit was definitely a huge let down. Homemade frozen custard! Say no more!…read more We were out snowshoeing at the Timberland Ski Trails and required a frozen treat after such a strenuous workout. It is only a 15 minute drive and located off the county highway. This is a one stop shop for local goods and organic foods. It is small but has produce, bread, meat, dairy, dry goods and local crafts. Everything is either organic and/or made locally. If I lived in the area or vacationed here, I would definitely shop at this store. But the true gem is the custard. WOW! I wasn't sure what to expect but the two scoops I tried were so flavorful and delicious! I had one scoop of coffee and one scoop of chocolate caramel crunch. Very please with my selections. The waffle cone was also very good. My boyfriend had two scoops of salted caramel praline and while he enjoyed it, I think too scoops was a bit much as it become very salty toward the end. Writing this review I am daydreaming about eating more. I kind of regret not buying a pint to go but now I have more incentive to return!

I got a 2 scoop cup of pirate booty which has mini m&ms in it. It was good. I then got a small raspberry sorbet with strawberry ice cream on top. The strawberry was really good. The raspberry sorbet was kinda too sweet. I rarely eat ice cream, but this was a nice treat. Plus my company gave me a gift card to SA. It is nice working for a for profit company. Thursdays is by far the best night because that's seafood night. If you like crab legs, you really get a good deal if you go on Thursday nights. You can load up on crab legs, various versions of shrimp, oysters (usually), scallops, mussels, calamari, and last but not least - frog legs! If I go to my local grocery store in the Twin Cities, 2 frozen crab legs are 10 bucks. So it's a bargain to eat all of these crab legs (and the other stuff) for a meager 22 dollars. Of course, they also have sliced roast beef at the beef carving station. There's another version of beef & mushrooms in the self-serve area. They have roast chicken too. The salad bar area is pretty decent. I usually hit this first. It's easy because there's never a line for the salad bar. Then I wait in line for the meat items. One thing I want to mention is that the employees are all really friendly. This is amazing considering how incredibly busy it is and some of the customers are a little rough around the edges. There's one particularly skinny little dude that I usually see running in & out with food that's very friendly and funny as hell, cracking jokes with customers. I always say "hi" to him if I see him. There are a couple of things that keep me from giving out 4 or 5 stars: 1. The dessert area is a little light in variety and low in quality compared to other buffets. They have pies, bars, small cake pieces, and a soft serve ice cream machine. But all in all, there's isn't nearly as much variety as I usually see at buffets and they aren't that great. 2. Since smoking is allowed in the casino, the whole place is totally permeated with cigarette smoke. As a guy that grew up with second hand smoke, this whole thing is a little nauseating.
