I was super excited when I found out that we had a Dairy Queen in Bloomington but to my surprise they don't serve food like other Dairy Queens they just do ice cream. I have never heard of a Dairy Queen that doesn't do food but nonetheless we still got great service and great ice cream. The only downside I can't get past is they just have walk up windows or a drive thru and they are always super busy so sometimes the line is lined up down the highway on nice afternoons. read more

Kind of hard to mess up a Dairy Queen but this one is the absolute worst. They permanently closed the walk-up windows so the drive thru traffic backs up into the very busy street. If you ride up on a bicycle with your kids, prepare to suck down exhaust from the all the SUVs idling in front of you. Ice cream is fine - no actual food other than crummy hot dogs. Maybe it could get swallowed up by the blue stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2??? Barring that, maybe it could just be sold to someone who cares a little more about the experience. read more

The line was backed up to the street during this time of social distancing. Glad to see the quality is still great. I had to get a large blizzard with m&m's and Oreos. I couldn't wait in line for 10-15 mins then only get a small blizzard! This DQ is always generous with their toppings. During this coronavirus fiasco, it seems as though their hours are still the same but the government forbids eating in your car in their parking lot. As someone who used to work here, I have some complaints. The manager refuses to hire enough staff to open the walk up window, and customers are constantly complaining about it, he doesn't care how his employees are treated, even when they are being sexually harassed, and instead rewards the customers with free food, he makes accommodations for his own disability, but almost none for his disabled employees, and also gives shifts to teenagers who "need something to do over the summer" (his words) instead of to adults with actual financial responsibilities. read more

I have always loved Dairy Queen because their ice cream is so so good but the service I received from the girls working tonight was poor. To be fair I did visit around closing time but I only ordered 2 small cones which should be a fairly easy task and I apologized multiple times. The girl who took my order and payment was extremely rude and showed a clear attitude with me. When I got to the window the girl inside made faces at me and rolled her eyes when I apologized for coming through the drive thru so late. They gave me the cones and then slammed the window and yelled "we're closed" and laughed about it. The kids who work here are very nice and do a good job. However, this DQ is drive thru only and has no outside seating. The drive thru line is always 20+ minutes long in the evenings and they intentionally have removed all outdoor seating. It's a real bummer and even though I have to drive across town, we skip this place to go to Jiffy Treat. I do miss blizzards tho. read more

I come here purely out of convenience, the walk up is usually crowded and the drive through is usually always slammed. The place itself is really dated, I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed since the 80's, and neither has the equipment they use. They don't flip their Blizzards upside down before they hand them to you, mainly because I think their machines don't run quite cold enough to maintain the ice cream's shape. This is the worst drive through location I have ever visited. The walk up window is closed, and the line for the drive through is a quarter mile long- literally. There are three employees, and the owner sits on a chair on his phone doing absolutely nothing. I waited over 35 minutes along with 25 other cars. The workers are not wearing gloves, the inside was not clean and they aren't even using an actual register. Save yourself the time and find another location for your ice cream! read more

It's a DQ, but this one gets extra credit since it's the one where my great-grandfather used to take my mom when she was young. It was built when she was 11 or 12 and when we went through the drive-thru, it turns out the guy running it/ who owns it, helped his dad build it. Family owned and operated for about 50 years. Love it. Blizzards aren't bad either. And they have a drive thru. read more

Really like this place...it is just down the road from Bloomington South High School. Over on the southside of Bloomington, this Dairy Queen is very well run and always a delight. Typical Dairy Queen fare, but that is not meant as a negative. We usually go to Buffalo Wild Wings and then need a sweet treat...and that is what brings us to Dairy Queen. This place looks a bit like it came right out of the 1950s and that is another thing we like about it. Huge parking lot, nice drive up availability, always clean, and staffed by youngsters who happen to know what they are doing, we'll keep coming back. read more

So I went to this DQ for our usual mid-week treat on April 1. I saw a Visa/MasterCard sign in the window. I thought that this must be an April Fools joke... Until the person in front of me paid with their debit card. So no foolin' they do accept plastic. So you don't have to stop at the ATM before coming here. Other than that, no big changes- though they discontinued my wife's favorite Blizzard flavor, so I think she might want me to take a star away. But I will leave it as is since they probably made that decision at the corporate level and the store just has to take what they can get- though we might check out another DQ someplace else just to be sure. In the meantime, she is looking for a new fix. Otherwise, no big changes to service, speed, or quality. They are solid on food quality and once the temperature is above 60 degrees, be prepared to wait. Everyone else will be here too... And now with their debit cards. read more

This place looks and feels like it is stuck in 1958. There is always a ton of people in line and it never seems to get shorter. Even with the line issue, the same man that took my order ended up making my Blizzard making it super inefficient. I've been going to the DQ here since at least the early 70's. Always had a good experience with the service and the product. My latest favorite has been the Raspberry Truffle Blizzard, but there are many choices I like. We respect how hard these folks work. Friday night. Not a lot of time to clean up. Friendly service and all. If you only like vanilla ice cream, then this is a good place to come. However, for you non-loyalist to DQ or you "re-live childhood memory people" this is not your DQ of long ago. Portions are small, toppings are limited, and the whole restaurant looks like they don't like cleaning. I've been to this DQ a number of times, mostly because it's the only one in town and it's convenient. It's a very inconsistent experience. Some days, they're not busy at all, other days they're swamped and look understaffed and not equipped to deal with the crowd. Also, I usually get the same blizzard with extra stuff, and often it looks like they don't add anything extra to it, or they just dust the top of it, and other times, it's excellent. I've eaten there many times over the years but today when I stopped, the coney sauce had no discernable taste or smell -- it was just a hotdog covered with hot flavorless meat. Others have told me the same thing over the last couple of years, that's why I hadn't been going there, but now I've experienced it for myself and heavens, were they ever right. What a shame.
