The owner came in soon after, looked irritated I was there, then nudged my table forward, so as not to disturb the other guests which would be coming later and dumped my phone battery onto my table. Then then proceeded to tell me it was a tradition to only give people one glass to drink out of. I explained I had eaten at many Roman restaurants, including one a minute down the street, and no one had this strange idea. Call me crazy, but I don't want to drink water with wine dregs in it. And even if it is a tradition, how much effort is it to give someone another glass. When they asked me about more wine, I said only for a second glass, they would not do it, so that sale was lost. The owner was fluttering around asking the local regulars how everything was but didn't bother to ask me. I guess I was not important or they don't want foreigners there- and I speak Italian. On the plus side, the food was delicious and it was very reasonable. But one wonders why the borderline rude attitude was necessary and tradition or not, I do not want to mix wine and water. An Italian friend from Milan said this was low class. It would be truly excellent if they had an attitude adjustment. Until then, I don't recommend foreigners go there.

This should have 5 stars. It's not a tourist trap and all ingredients used are organic. What's my friggin' problem?! We headed over here with a few other Yelpers as part of a covert operation to get this place on the site, as it had no reviews prior to this outing. We were going at this, completely blind! The company was great, and as is common with all Yelpers around the globe, ultimately we are foodies. I think we all REALLY wanted to be able to write great things... It's located in the Pigneto neighborhood, which despite visiting this city yearly, I had never set foot in. From what I understand, it's an area that wasn't so great and is now booming with young crowds. There are several nice restaurants and bars, even a pedestrian street around the corner. Yes, not even the Eternal City is free of gentrification. The restaurant itself is very welcoming. The decor makes you feel like you're right at home. Walking in, I really expected a wonderful experience. Their greatest asset, also seems to be their downfall however. They are a small operation. This means that their menu is written on the wall and changes daily depending on fresh ingredients available. The problem here is that there isn't much of a choice. Still, what's on the board all sounds great to me, so I'm still happy. We all mentally prepare our orders when the waitress informs us that the kitchen is small, there is only 1 stove, therefore we can only choose 2 or 3 types of pasta for the table. This kin dof grinds my gears, as it breaks the ultimate restaurant rule of the universe... you never get the same dish as those you are dining with. Here, it seems like we have no choice. We get meatballs to start, which are divine (In fact, we wanted more but were told they were out). The spinach and ricotta arancini are also delicious. Next comes the Cacio e Pepe pasta I ordered which was really good, but by far, not the best I've had. For dessert, a few people order Panna Cotta, which is basically Italian flan. As people dig in, we notice they each order looks different. Some of them have varying degrees of gelatin on top. We call over the waitress who tells us that she has already explained this to others in our party, that sometimes the gelatin doesnt set well and separates. "That's just how it comes out sometimes." I'm kind of appalled by this. Have my American customer service experiences spoiled me? I cant imagine a customer informing a waitress that their dish is off and being told that basically they were just unlucky to get the crappy one. She made no attempt to remedy the situation, and wasnt even remotely apologetic. I'd like to think that the experience would have been a lot better had it been a smaller group of diners. We found this location of the popular Italian chain here and decided to give it a try. There was a small line from people at the game but it moved quickly. Also noteworthy is there is no seating inside this location, but there are enough tables and stuff outside. Trapizzino is known mainly for bread pockets filled with various fillings. You need to pay attention because when they run out of one flavor, they'll replace it with an entirely different flavor. Same goes for their suppli (fried rice ball) varieties. All the varieties sounded delicious, but we went with their cacio e pepe suppli, chicken cacciatore trapizzini, and burrata/anchovy trapizzini. They're a bit tricky to eat since they aren't shy with filling up the bread and forks are nowhere to be found. But man, what a great concept. The food is fairly cheap but the flavors are so varied and such high quality that you forget you're basically eating chain street food. I wish I had more room for food so I could try things like their Ethiopian stew or meatball or whatever else could come out of that kitchen. My chicken one was juicy, herbal, and the right amount of saucy. My wife's burrata was rich, but not too much, and the salty punches of the anchovies helped cut through it. Whether this location or one of the others scattered around Rome, Trapizzino is a great place to refuel after all the walking you'd be doing.
