We stayed here in a tent and a touring caravan. We were never stuck for something to do and the children's play park was brilliant as it was huge. They had great facilities including a well stocked shop, fish and chip shop, a bar for adults and families and a swimming pool. I am now planning visiting with my child and I hope she enjoys it as much as I did. The park was always clean, tidy and very professionally run. The grounds are lovely and they always have lovely roses up the main drive. Would definitely recommend a holiday here.

We got engaged in one of the lodges and we came back again for honeymoon. The interiors are perfect with 4 poster beds and open plan living. The forest is quiet and packed with wildlife. There's awesome local walks and you can hire bikes on site. If you want a cosy night with a dvd they have LOADS to hire for a donation. On site is a lovely wee shop selling locally sourced food. They even have camera round the wood where you can observe wildlife on the TV on your lodge at night. Badger cam! There's is a restaurant near by at the gold course that serves amazing food. With York and local attractions such as Eden Camp so close it is the perfect luxury base for a holiday. Lodges can take 2+. I can't recommend Griffon Forest more and have no bad words about it!

We went in December when it had been converted to a christmas village. The afternoon frosty set the tone for a real Christmassy feel The shop fronts look Victorian and there are other features which take you back in time. There are a variety of shops some sell handmade crafts and there are bygones and some lovely photographs. There is a tearoom and the menu sounded delicious but definitely in the treat and enjoy category. With limited time we went into the cake shop instead and bought a delicious cake. I might have bought more but sadly felt I was being a nuisance taking time to look. Hopefully we might go on a warm day and enjoy eating one of the delicious sounding sandwiches outside.

Decided to have a drive to Staxton to have a look at this place as friends had been a few months…read moreearlier. On entering it looks like you have entered a victorian streetreally dark with sound effects playing in the background and all the shop fronts on either side. It has been built really well and is very effective.howeverit's very small indeed and some of the shops were empty and to let. The all year round xmas shop was closed ??.. the other shops were freezing cold (one shop owner was warming her hands on the light bulbs!!) I didn't realise how small the place was, we were back at the entrance in a flash (we were the only people in the place which made us feel slightly awkward!) We did stop in the 1940's tearoom for a drink and actually saw 3 other people in there !! There is a restaurant to let and it has a camp site attatched to it so I should imagine when those are up and running there will be more people about. It has potential to be somewhere really nice to visit with a little expansion..there is plenty of land around so surely it must be possible. The shops are tiny inside..one lady told us there is only one of each kind allowed so they have no competition as such.instead the complement each other. On the whole a nice little place .. would return a bit later into the year though!!

Cayton Bay in Scarborough is one of my favourite Holiday places…read more It is only a 15 minute bus/cab ride from Scarborough and the buses are about every half an hour. The Park itself is clean. You come in through the front gate and straight to reception. Lucky for us our caravan was right behind the reception building and about 50 yards from the entertainment complex. Our Caravan was also much more than we could have asked for. 3 bedrooms which meant that the children wouldn't have to share after all (according to my reservation we should have been in a 2 bed) There was heaters in all the rooms as well as a separate toilet and shower. The kitchen had a microwave and a Forman grill and the lounge area had a DVD player as well as Freeview and built in radio. It was obvious that we had secured a privately owned unit as there were a selection of games in the cupboard and little ornaments scattered about the caravan. As far as the entertainments go Park Resorts have their own characters. Firstly the hero of the hour is Sparky the rabbit along with his slightly more intelligent girlfriend Sparkle. The other character though was by far our favourite, he is Naarky the Nardvark. There is the usual kids club and every evening the entertainment for kids starts about 8pm with a show and games, prizes and of course the obligatory Party dances demonstrated by the Park resorts Teamstars. For the adults there was the the resident cabaret who were a band called Jinx. They are a family consisting of Dad on Bass, Son on Drums and the 2 daughters doing all the singing. In the club you have the usual Star bars and Wonder bar selling all the kids sweets, Slushes and glow in the dark accessories. It wouldn't be the same without them and you can also by the big 1yard cups to fill your kiddies full of fizzy pop. As far as eating out goes, there is the good old pub meals or a wonderful little take-away that does everything including Pizzas, kebabs and burgers. Just the perfect thing to take back to the caravan after you come out of the show. One thing I liked in the pub was the big comfy leather sofas. I was able to settle down on the Sunday afternoon and watch my footie team live on Sky. The camp isn't far from the beach. Just about a 5 minute walk. 1 drawback is it is a huge hill down to the beach but comes with fantastic breath-taking views. I did have to stop a few times walking back up though. This is definitely a place I would go again. Full thumbs up from me!!!

i like the cayton bay sight but have a few issues about the lack of paving to every caravan…read moreespecially those on the steep sloped areas of the site. last year during the heavy rains we had the site was in places very dangerous to walk on the saturated grass to get to your caravan door, i saw many people [old and young] slipping and falling because they had to "paddle" across the grass instead of having a solid pathway to walk on to their caravan. this was especially prevelent when people were unloading their cars on arrival and having to walk down steep slopes to their caravan--if paths were from the road and car parking areas to the doors the problem would not occur, what would health and safety say? come on park resorts spend some money and make it safe for all
