First of all let me say that this is most likely to be the best hotel in the region of Bridlington…read moreand Filey. It has a progressive attitude and is a welcome departure from the typically OAP centric area. I really do want this place to strive on for future awards and not rest on those past achievements in the eighties. We stayed in the standard room with breakfast on a three nights for two deal. The hotel, restaurant buildings surround a gravel courtyard for parking and there are plenty of spaces. The first impressions are good and the hotel has an air of class about it. The reception is not always manned but with a slow yet friendly start we were set. Our standard room was described at reception as 'spacious', it was most certainly not. However upon comparison with the other rooms on the fire plan it was one of the larger rooms. The size is adequate if you are tidy and organised. The bed although small was indeed comfortable and was the best part of the room. An attempt to keep the design contemporary and clean had been made but there was a lack of attention to detail. The windows locks were missing, the bathroom lamp flickered if one sat on the toilet and the bedside lamps were fitted with old fashioned non-energy saving bulbs, one of which was broken upon arrival. Faults were reported and remedial action was undertaken that very day. The consistency of this service was undermined by the fact our room was not serviced at all for one of the three days, I can only assume the cleaner has Sunday off. The breakfast is delivered in an elegant surrounding and your place is already set for you. The menu seems at first limiting especially on the continental side of things. The service is excellent and our requests were catered for and remembered day in day out. The grilled breakfast is generous and if a high standard. The adjoining restaurant 'Azzurro' is a well laid out and design conscious. Service was prompt, friendly but not over fussy. All of the starters bar the Gamberoni were a little overly constructed. The typical quantity explosion occurred, the stuffed Romano pepper starter at Pizza Hut could teach them a lot. Simple flavours, small plate, done well for the price. Instead my stuffed pepper (Pepperoni Ripieni) was drowned beneath a bowl of melted cheese and filled with a mundanity usually reserved for little chef. On to better things however. The (Filletto Sfizio) Prime Fillet, Mushroom, Truffle, Dolce Latte & Cream was superb and cooked to order very well although a little more medium than rare. This dish although the most expensive deserves your attention. Don't let the pizza oven steer you away from this. The pizzas that were ordered although crispy and authentic on the outer base were overloaded with topping which in turn made for a moist inner base. To conclude, the hotel and the Azzurro are laid before you as a potential masterpiece and I am sure that on occasion all the notes are hit but for me, the admission of room servicing for one day supplement to the repair state of the accommodation let's that potential remain exactly that.

South Cliff Beach, located roughly 1.5km south of Bridlington, along England's east coast may not…read morebe everyone's idea of the perfect "Naturist Beach", but to some people that's just what it is. Each summer when England's weather temperature rises above 20c about thirty or so brave young, middle-aged and elderly people join together along this stretch of beach to enjoy the pure delight of Naturism (or if you are not familiar with the correct term, then how about the more blunt term; "Nudism")? I'm not calling the people brave as an insult, I'm calling them brave because there's a mean chilly breeze usually blowing inland off the North Sea, it blows into every groove and crevise, hence most people prefer to walk along this beach fully clothed. The area is well signposted, warning anyone who may be offended by the sight of a fellow human's naked body to stay clear. However the local Birdwatching Club is certainly not offended, their binoculars trained daily on the naked female "birds" that lay or walk about on the beach. The beach itself is clean and mostly sandy. There is the remains of a couple of World War 2 land-defence bunkers still sited on the beach. Presumably left here by MoD to allow the naturists more privacy incase the "birds and bees" wish to mate! Go on, get 'em off this summer. It's a great way to get that all over suntan!!!

Ideally placed for both north and south beaches, and the harbour, the hotel offers en-suite facilities in some rooms, and basic facilities for others. There are five guest rooms, newly double-glazed, and each with colour TV and tea and coffee making facilities. There is a residents' lounge bar, with a good selection of drinks, and games such as Scrabble, dominoes and cards, should the heavens open. Prices range from £20 to £30 person per night, including full English breakfast. Edited to add that the owners work hard to make stays enjoyable, for instance by offering parking permits, and in their hospitality. I have very much enjoyed my stays here!

I've stayed at the Radcliffe House guesthouse three times now. When I was last there, I received…read morethe usual warm welcome from the owners, Rodney and Jackie Collins, and my room was, as ever, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Being a light sleeper, the double-glazing in the room is very welcome. On my last visit, I had dinner there on two nights. One meal was particularly memorable - fresh local crab, beautifully prepared and served with a decent well-chilled wine. Next to the dining room is a small, well-stocked bar. For me, this is an above average guest house, and I totally recommend it - for single visitors and families alike. Not only for the room and the food and the welcome, but also because all local amenities (shops, bars, beach etc) are immediately nearby.
