My family visited Daldongnae during our visit to Montréal this summer. There were limited street parking, on both sides of the street, where the restaurant was. The area offered a wide selection of Asian restaurants and dessert places. We walked in during a weekend lunch rush and waited for a few minutes before being seated. The same gentleman who seated us also took our order and helped bring out some of the items we ordered. The restaurant was packed during our visit, with few to no empty tables. The vibe was lively and service was very good. They were very fast to bring out dishes which was a huge plus if you are hungry. The not too bad downside was they were slow on removing dishes and finished plates. Those piled up quickly when you order a lot of things to try. Although not the best Korean restaurant I have been too, it is still very good. I would say mid tier. The grill selection was limited as well as the available appetizers and noodles and soups. I enjoyed the side dishes that come with your meals and this restaurant offered a few good ones. Personally, if I visited again, I would try a different in the area. Overall, good. Great restaurant for a date night. Food was delicious and fresh. We were there for my son's Birthday. Seating for 4 was good but 5 was a crowd. My son was hungry so it was not a good experience for him as he was not expecting to see a fairly small cooking area. We had gone to a Mongolian restaurant in the US and he had a better experience. Service and Ambience was hopping. Friendly staff and good , happy people all around. I would recommend this place. Prices were also reasonable. read more

Authentic! Service fantastic, meat and side dishes on point . I would definitely repeat

I was really looking forward to trying Daldongnae in Montreal, especially after hearing it was named one of the top 100 restaurants in Canada. I even adjusted my travel itinerary just to make it to their St. Catherine location, excited to try their mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles)--a favorite dish of mine. To my surprise and deep disappointment, I was told that I couldn't order any non-meat items unless I ordered two servings of meat first. As a solo diner who doesn't eat much meat, this policy felt not only frustrating but also unnecessarily exclusionary. It's baffling that a restaurant would impose such a rule without any mention on their website. This kind of policy makes it extremely unwelcoming for solo travelers or anyone dining alone. Given that Korea itself is grappling with record-low birth and marriage rates--and solo dining is more common than ever--this approach feels out of touch. If you're going to enforce such a strict and meat-centered minimum order, it should be clearly stated online. I left without eating (I couldn't have, obviously!), and it soured an experience I was genuinely looking forward to. read more

Delicious BBQ for Christmas dinner. Since we all had to order a protein, we had the steak, pork, chicken and Vegan option. Everything came with the usual bon chon, and as always way more food than we could eat. Loved the sesame oil and sesame paste for dipping. Good crowd for the holiday. read more

Pretty good korean barbecue. The meat quality was very good but the serving sizes were a little on the smaller size. The serving sizes for the side dishes were good and they gave plenty of refills. Service was a little lacking. If you don't flag them down, they probably won't come and help you. But the food was good and service decent. read more

Decent spot for KBBQ in Montreal. The vibes are wonderful and are reminiscent of kbbq spots back in Korea. Food is definitely on the pricier end for what it's worth, and the food is on par with what you'd expect from korean barbecue. I reserved this place for a large group for a special occasion. First of all, we find out in person that each person HAS to order a portion of meat (even though there are entrées equivalent to a full meal). We also cannot split the bill, it had to be on a single bill and we were many. One of the servers was extremely rude, they did not provide us water, plates, did not change our grills, and did not put the ventilation on. We had to continuously ask them for all of this and even when the server had finally done it, it was not done adequately at all. They also tried to coerce us into giving a 5 star review for free rice. The food does not make this place worth it. I do not recommend, go somewhere else a block away like gyubee and pong bbq. read more

Great korean bbq place! Made reservations because I had a group of 8 people. We were seated right away. Love the decor on the inside which makes it look like each table has its own individual corner. This location opened up end at the end of 2022. Daldongnae is a popular Korean BBQ place--popular enough to open this second resto 600m from the first one!! We reserved a table for 6 and they put us in a booth seat which is perfect for 4 but a bit cramped for 6 if you're an average sized human being. I ordered the rib finger meat and rib eye roll. Each was $23.99. The rib finger meat consists of 3 inch strips cut out from ribs which allows for table top cooking on just a few minutes. I preferred the rib eye roll which is a steak roughly the size of a cellphone. You'll be provided scissors to snip it down to size for the wraps. The grill burns nice and hot and with the oil coming off the grill you will get splatter. My cup of water near the grill was covered in a thin film of oil. Since I was squeezed directly in front of the grill I had a bit of grease and oil spraying me. We asked for additional plates to manage our cooking as a group since they brought all our meat orders on a single cutting board. There is a minimum where you have to order 1 portion of meat per person even if you order a bowl of rice or noodles. The dipping sauce is the best and tastes really great with the meat wrapped in lettuce. I also enjoyed the water chestnut jello seasoned in sesame oil. I think the table is available for 2 hours but we were done in 1.5 hours. They give only 1 bill per table and don't split the bill for you so get ready to transfer money to the payer! read more

I came here with my friends on monday night at 9pm because the bishop location is temporarily closed. For reference, the review of the st catherine location will be compared to bishop. To start, the wait wasn't too bad, especially for a walk in. We waited probably around 10-15minutes. Our orders were taken and then we started waiting. he first criticism that we have is about the service; unlike the bishop location, the service at the st catherine location was not anticipatory. We had to ask for the water and utensils multiple times before receiving them. Throughout dinner, while they were attentive to our requests, they often times would leave the empty bowls that we had stacked for their convenience. It quickly became crowded on the table despite our best efforts. At the bishop location, the meat is plentiful. My friends and i often leave so incredibly full. This unfortunately was not the case with the st catherine option. We ordered one order of pork belly, one thinly sliced pork belly, and two pork belly with skin. As per daldongnae standard, the meat was as yummy as always however, the portions for the regular pork belly and pork belly with skin were thinner, smaller, and fewer than the bishop location. Unrolling the pork, we were surprised (derogatory) to see how small it was. Similarly, we felt that the potion of thinly sliced pork belly was 1/3 of what is typically given at the bishop location. Now, onto the sides. We were surprised to see a difference in sides between the two locations. While bishop typically served japchae, st catherine served acorn jelly. This isnt necessarily a drawback, as both these dishes are incredibly delicious!! The other sides (spicy cucumber, pumpkin, spicy seaweed, etc) were the same between the two locations. One of our favorite sides is the corn and cheese. To our dismay, we have noticed the declining quality of corn and cheese in the overall daldongnae experience. It seems as if there has been less and less cheese that is being mixed in, making it more corn than cheese. Finally, a crucial part of the daldongnae experience is the soybean soup. At bishop, they served the soup with the meat the beginning of the meal. At st catherine, however, we had to ask for the soup at the end of our meal, and when we got it, it was only 1/3 full (picture attached). It gave the impression that we were served leftover soup from another table due to how meager the portion was. While I still enjoyed the delicious dinner, i hope that the bishop location reopens soon so that my friends and I can return to the peak of kbbq. read more

Very terrible customer service. My family went to this location and my mother got stuck in the restroom for 30 minutes because the door was broken. The waitstaff was completely incompetent trying to fix the door and get her out - and it ended up being my father who had to use a hammer to get the door open. Instead of apologizing to my mother, the second she got out the entire waitstaff dispersed. We had to reach out to the waiter for them to even acknowledge that this happened in their restaurant. In the end there was really poor communication from their end, with some of their team members promising a full meal comp and the other ones saying it was only one dish. Honestly made it a very uncomfortable experience because we felt like if we didn't say anything they would've just pretended like nothing happened. read more

my bf and i used to be regulars there. we used to go at least twice a week. then the manager changed, and so did their service. especially the host guy is extremely rude. every time i call them to make a reservation, if it's this host guy who answers the phone, he would NEVER take a reservation no matter what. and if it's someone else picking up the phone, they always take reservations, which i find very strange. last weekend, i had called to try to make a reservation in advance, and this rude host said they only take reservations for over 4 ppl, so we should just walk in. we went, then there were 2 parties of 2 ppl in front of us and they both had a reservation. and the host guy asked us if we made a reservation, although it was him who said they don't take reservations for a party of 2. i hope they know their regulars started being very dissatisfied and stopped going there because of their poor recent service and in our case, because of the host guy who's always there. he ruins our night the second we walk in every time. read more
