We were in the area and came across the Wheels Through Time museum. I am a rider, though my mother is not, but it still interested her so we decided to go for a walk through. What they have done here is quite frankly astounding. A significant portion of the motorcycles on display are still running, and are fired up on a regular basis for patrons to hear, see, and receive the visceral impact of what those bikes are truly like. The bikes are primarily of American heritage, with very few European or Japanese bikes making a showing, but that is alright. The representation of manufacturers, many of them now defunct, is excellent. For any motorcycle enthusiast, this is definitely a place that they should visit at some point. The scenery in the area is amazing for a rider, and the historical heritage that is represented inside this museum is top notch. read more

This place truly is something special! Good for all ages young and mature. The displays are awesome and gives you quite the history lesson. Everything in the museum runs and they will start anything for you. They have employees that go around and ask if you have any questions about anything on display. Two floors filled with awesomeness! They also have a gift shop area filled with goodies to take home with you. The employees there are very friendly and helpful. Also, they are currently raffling off a motorcycle that you can have a chance to win. Lastly I want to mention that they switch out the displays so if you've been here before they are always adding in new stuff. Do yourself a favor and go check this place out! read more

We arrived about 2 hours before they were closing, but thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We asked Andy about the "world's rarest motorcycle" and he immediately asked if we'd like to see it. Not only did he walk us to the bike, but he spent what must have been at least 30 minutes telling us the most intricate story about how this bike came to be. He was friendly, outgoing, and knowledgeable. Not only that, but he appears to genuinely love talking about the bikes, as we saw him a few minutes later talking to another group about yet another bike with just a much enthusiasm as he showed with us. What a great place! I wish I'd gotten there earlier so i could have spent more time looking at all the incredible history. read more

My husband is a Harley guy to the Nth degree. His dad was even moreso. His dad and him went to WTT often from Knoxville for many years but tragically his dad died unexpectedly in an accident two years ago. This weekend was the anniversary of his passing and I wanted to go something for my husband to help remember the good times so we came out here. I know nothing about bikes except how to ride on the back but bringing him here brought a piece of his dad back with us. He even saw someone from your online videos he knew in person and got so excited his eyes lit up. Sadly, he was busy with someone else and we didn't want to bother him, but it was exciting for my hubby none the less. Great people that work here to , carry on Dales , incomparable legacy .... We walk in, and the first thing that occurs is a guide/enthusiast, Andy Norris, starts up a vintage flat track car, with a 4 cylinder flat head, revs it up, and tells me to blip the throttle as well !! Unbelievable, to do that for me. The classic bikes, are both , restored pristine examples, and as you can imagine, barn finds, that are displayed the way , they were discovered. What makes them all special, is I think all the complete examples, all run!! The displays are all great, because they remind you of old workshops, where the bikes would have been in ....If you are a Motorcycle enthusiast, you already know you must go enjoy this , true, celebration of American mechanical history !!! Motorcycles yes it's great. Museum is pretty loose definition. Just stuff everywhere, some with signage, most not. Very cool displays and wonderful staff. Nice to see most bikes unrestored but doubt you'll learn anything here. Saw few bikes started up which was nice. Touch pricey for the quick tour, gravel parking lot for bikes at a bike joint. Dale Walksler's "Wheels Thru Time Motorcycle Museum" is a masterful collection of Americana experienced (mostly) on two wheels and an engine strapped between your legs. Admission is a modest $15 and for an additional $10 each, an opportunity to win the bike of the year could be yours. Pro tip: I gonna win so don't bother. We took our time and weaved throughout the decades of flatheads, shovelheads, knuckleheads, 4 cylinder wonders, some awesome automobiles, military bikes, flat track, etc., and even a vintage Evil Knieval original. They have a massive display. So much to appreciate in one visit. Occasionally, a guide educated us on a specific model or era. We found them both passionate and informative. Nice touch. A couple suggestions: the museum is surprisingly large so a few more resting benches would be nice, along with a small coffee/snack shop. Sometimes they start up bikes during the day which is cool. The acrid fumes, however, linger burning your eyes and throat (not as cool as when I was younger). A Big Ass Fan would help greatly. OMG, I'm showing my age! Love bikes? Especially early Harleys and Indians? Ringing all the bells on my "Give 'em a Whirl" meter. Go. Really, go. read more

I'm not a motorcycle fan, but for my hubby and girlfriend's SO, I went. Throughout our ninety minute visit, we saw more motorcycles than I knew existed. We walked and looked at our own pace & stopped to read and see the iPad information at staged areas. The iPads had background information and videos. Employees with vast knowledge answered questions and stopped to talk in-depth about solitary exhibits to anyone who listened, and we listened. When you enter the museum, you are actually in the gift shop. This is also where you pay admission ($15 adults & $12 senior citizens). Walk into the museum, and you see the evolution of motorcycles from inception to modern times. We all liked the history - war years, racing, television shows, women's roles, and so much more. We liked best the 23 year old guide who started up Dale's first motorcycle for us & also talked in depth about the rarest motorcycle in the world made by Richard Traub & found behind a brick wall in Chicago. We didn't see & read everything, but what we saw was educational, impressive, and fun. read more

We stayed a few hours and walked through the museum twice. To see and hear a 1940 Harley or Indian crank and run like it was just built was pretty cool. read more

Exactly what I imagined from seeing a variety of clips on tv. Actually, a bit more than I imagined inasmuch as the displays are rife and abundantly filled with more appropriate pieces and parts than I could ever have imagined. Expertly displayed, the "wheels" primarily highlight motorcycle. But there is also a gorgeous collection of unique motor cars. My feeble attempts at trying to describe this place fall far short of doing justice to this marvelous museum. Even my wife who cares little about motorcycles (even though she's ridden in years gone by) was overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the historic and thoroughly entertaining displays. Please check hours so you won't be disappointed by arriving on a day they might be closed. By far one of the most impressive museums I have ever been to. For just $15 a person you can view up close and personal hundreds of the rarest motorcycles in the world!!! All of the motorcycles in the museum are American (think Harley Davidson, Indian, etc.), and range from the early 1900's to present day customs. What I found to be cool was the fact that certain bikes are started up sometimes for visitors, which I was fortunate enough to be able to see. Employees walk around and chat with visitors as well and answer questions about the bikes, which was neat since I learned a lot of things I didnt really know before. Wow. How does this only have 46 reviews. I went for the second time today. Was looking at the 1932 Ford race car right by the entrance and then one of the museum guides/mechanics asked a young boy if he wanted to start it. He fired it up and it sounded amazing. Spent a good 20 minutes just looking at that car and asking questions. I have only been there on a Saturday and both times plenty of mechanics/guides were walking around asking if anyone had questions. You will randomly hear motorcycles and cars being started as you go through the museum. Matt was around the entire day, but I didn't get to talk to him directly. IF you like motorcycles and motorcycle history, this is the place to go. $15 fee but well worth it. read more

Whether you're a motorcycle enthusiast or not, don't miss a chance to visit Dale's Wheels Through Time. This museum is done the way all museums should be---- not pretentious. I was on a ride with some buddies and spent the better part of a day here. A day probably isn't enough time. They are very reasonable and offer deals to include a free Tee Shirt with a Knucklehead raffle ticket. They do seem to give away a classic Harley every year. Even if you're not into classic bikes, they also have some great cars as well. Maybe you'd like to see Steve McQueen's car. Maybe you'd like to see the most rare cars and bikes ever made. They're here. Their people also put on a great show by presenting the history of the bikes. Some of the early 1900's bikes still run perfectly. It would be nice if they offered a weekly "camp" for enthusiasts. Would be great to see how they restore these classic gems. I certainly learned a lot when visiting. The folks there are super nice. The Harley Museum in Milwaukee doesn't come close to Dale's. This is the best!! read more

Dale was a class act from beginning to the end. A thought leader who shared his passion for motorcycles with the world. He gave the mass's an opportunity to see what he saw and thus share his great love of motorcycles with the world. The Cancer that ended his life is a terrible illness that we should all work to cure as it too often takes the lives of the best and brightest like Dale who's generous spirit shared his love of motorcycles with all who wished the knowledge. AWESOME PLACES! Super nice people! Hubby and I were hesitant taking our 5 kids small kids to this museum, but the staff and owner were so nice! They gave the kids rides on a 39' knucklehead. They have them stickers and cards. It will take a few visits to see and read all the history of all the bikes we will definitely be back again! Thanks Wheels Through Time for an awesome experience! I had a fantastic visit at Wheels Through Time. The museum is very welcoming, open, and is largely a hands-on experience. It's actually okay for you to touch most of the things on display, here. If you're into motors at all, you're going to love this museum. If you're into motor-bikes, you're REALLY going to love this place. This is something of a mecca for riding enthusiasts. There are bikes in here that you won't see anywhere else in the world. One-of-a-kind pieces of history. Most of them in running condition! Can you imagine starting a one-hundred year-old motorcycle? And there are a couple of corners of this place where it's clear restorations-in-progress are occasionally being worked on. Totally fascinating stuff. It's no wonder that Wheels Through Time has such a stellar reputation in the motorcycling world. This was an easy day-trip for us to make from Atlanta. The museum is only minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway in Maggie Valley, NC. And there are some good places to grab some grub nearby before your trip back home. (I should note that some parts of Maggie Valley seem to close up for the winter. Don't let this stop you from coming up and having a good time.) Walking through the museum gave me a slight sense of sensory overload. There is just SO MUCH to take in. In addition to all those motorcycles, there are a few cool cars and various items of historical memorabilia scattered throughout the place. I have two "criticisms" (and they're almost insignificant). First, I wish the interior lighting were more photography friendly. Cold fluorescents do not a good picture make. Second, there are one or two "exhibits" that look like exactly what you might see as a "barn find" expedition--parts laying about, motorcycles peeking out from larger piles of discarded parts. I know the owner of this place has a "barn find" themed show, but I don't think they should devote floor space to chaos. There's simply too much good stuff to see and appreciate. That being said, I highly recommend this experience if you're even remotely into motorbikes, or even just into motoring and history in general. Holler if you want some company. read more

If you want to see the history of the American motorcycle this is the place to do it. They have a mind blowing collection of vintage bikes, starting at the very beginning of their existence in the early 1900's. There were a huge number of early manufacturers, which sadly almost all no longer with us. Most of the bikes are in running condition and they take some out every day. read more

I've been a fan of the show since it aired, but didn't realize how "real" this reality show was until I visited the museum. I say museum, but it's a museum with a pulse. As I entered the driveway Matt Walksler drove by me on a vintage Army Harley with a side car, and I thought, "that's cool, they do really ride them". Entered, paid the usual bounty and begin exploring. For motorcycle riders, enthusiast, lovers, this is nirvana. Unbelievable collection of vintage bikes of every sort. This is no Harley museum. This is a painstakingly put together collection of the rarest, oldest, most unique bikes throughput American history. Then you meet the staff. From young to old, disabled to working, they are warm, inviting, knowledgeable and interactive. Halfway through tee come upon Matt Walksler working on a Harley driven race car and he asks my son, wanna hear it run? He promptly opens the engine cover, fiddles with the choke and cranks up the motor. My kid's look paid for the visit right then. This would be only one of three meetings with Matt. Did I mention he's one of the owners? And a large part of the TV series? As we walked through I was astounded by the in-depth history noted and portrayed throughout this place. In the end, Matt offered to take the kids on a sidecar ride on the very same Harley side car he drove up on when we arrived. It was an amazing experience and I thank Dale and Matt for their love for the sport and experience that is American motorcycles. read more

I'd never heard of this place. I'm from California, in Maggie Valley NC on vacation, drove past the sign and told my friends that we should go one day while we're here. I checked it out online and thought that it was going to be a cool museum. I had no idea it was gonna be this cool! So we pulled in and the first thing we saw was an army Harley with a Tommy gun holster... With a Tommy gun in it! Then we went inside and it did not disappoint. Lots of cool all American bikes and a few old American cars. As we were looking around the place, we started to notice that every bike had a little silver dish, like the one your granny kept her trinkets in, under every bike. It finally occured to us, uh, these bikes all have oil in them? Oh my God, do they all run? They can't all run... Well we found out when we were chopping it up with the owner of the place later, you bet your ass they all run! From the 1906 Harley Davidson single cylinder prototype, to the V-Rod race bike! Coolest museum ever! Then as I was admiring the early 20's hill climb bikes, I heard a sound. It was definitely a motorcycle engine, but it sounded like it was coming from inside?! It was, the owner had started up a knuckle-head and was racking the throttle INSIDE THE MUSEUM! SICK! Then he actually started riding it around the rows of running vintage $100k bikes. Fucking best museum ever. After almost running me down, he hit the brakes, pegged the throttle and did a righteous tire smokin burnout right there in the place. Mind blown. read more

The exhibits are well laid out and cover everything from bikes used in wars to authentic riding gear to artwork. You will be amazed and surprised at how important motorcycles are to our history. I drove 2.5 hours one way to visit hoping to see some great bikes and take some nice photos. When I walked in with my camera and small tripod I was gruffly informed that they don't allow tripods or selfie sticks. When I pause for a moment to consider this I was told again and then yet another women approached from behind to tell me yet again and that I should have read the little sign on the door as I came in from the rain. They did however, they inform me I could take pictures. I had heard the first time they told me and I was considering taking my tripod back to the car. However, based on the foul condescending demeanor of the two women and the front I decided to just walk out and I will never return The place was dimly lit and taking freehand photos would never do any justice to the bikes. I do understand not wanting people to take photos however this did not appear to be the case. They lumped me with a very nice rig in with teenagers using selfie sticks. I am probably more worried about my rig getting damaged than they are about their bikes. Before making the trip to WTT I read through most of the web site and I have since read through it again and I can't find anything about the tripod and selfie stick policy. Such a warning would have saved me a 5 hour drive. So, if you are a serious amateur or professional and don't want to take photos with a flash or super high ISO save yourself a trip. WTT is not photographer friendly. read more
