On every visit to get my teeth cleaned Christakos tried to convince me have the two caps replaced because they had a gap between. After a number of years, and his reassurance that he could replace them without damaging the existing metal post and the remaining root of the broken teeth, I decided to go for it. Christakos replaced the two caps and indeed there was no more gap. But after 3-4 months of replacement, I started to notice a foul taste and smell coming from one of the broken tooth. I flossed and rinsed with Listerine regularly so I could not understand what was causing it. On my next 6 months visit to the dentist I informed him about the foul taste and smell. The dental hygienist took an x-ray of the tooth and thought she saw an abscess, but she deferred the final judgment to the dentist. Christakos had a look at the x-ray and informed me that he would replace the cap free of charge. The cap was removed after much heavy tapping which felt like hammering. A new cap was ordered and installed within two weeks. There was much grinding of the metal post to try and fit the replacement cap. I asked him if he found any infection under the removed cap and was informed that he did not see anything. The foul odor and taste was gone for some weeks, but then it came back. Frustrated I bought a Water-Pik hoping that it would help, but it helped only for a few hours after spraying. I informed Christakos during my next visit that the condition came back, he told me to give it more time and the condition would go away. Well the odor and bad taste did not go away but Christakos did. I received a letter from his office that he had sold the practice to someone else. His office would not divulge where he went to, only that he was working part-time somewhere in the GTA. Days later the cap broke off, the metal post inside snapped. Looking at the post I noticed that Christakos had grinded it too thin and weakened it. I also noticed that the root under the cap had turned black, now I could see the cause of the foul taste. I found a new dentist who told me that the root and post were not salvageable. Christakos did not install the cap correctly causing the abscess, he was just delaying because he was planning to sell and run. Well he can run but not hide forever, I managed to track him down using the internet, his ugly mug is posted on Oakville Dental's website. Beware of this quack.
