His grades had gone from A's and B's in 2nd Grade to C's and D's and F's in Third. Robby's motivation was down. He was repeated stating that he wasn't smart (not the case!) and that he didn't like school. My wife and I were a bit at wits end as to what to do. Additionally, Ohio has a high stakes test at the end of the 3rd grade that every student must pass in order to advance to the 4th grade. Maria really turned that around. She focused on developing strategies that he could implement to succeed at his day to day school work as well as better understand the context of the lessons. Additionally she gave him tools to help with focusing, always a challenge with an 8 yr old boy! Within a few weeks we began to see positive results. By the beginning of the 4th quarter his teachers had noticed a positive change in Robby's behavior and motivation and he achieved an award for academic excellence in the 4th quarter. He stopped saying he couldn't do things and he looked forward to going to school. Oh, and he passed the final exam without issue. We were disappointed that Maria moved to Atlanta as it would have been fabulous to have her work with Robby next year. (Just for context - Maria worked with Robby 2 times a week most weeks and 3 times a week to prep for the final exam from early February through the end of May.)

He is competent, patient, and teaches everything needed to excel in the quantitative section in a methodical manner. My GMAT score is a testament to Bob's instruction. I began the process of studying in Feb 2017 and scored a 480 on my first practice test after being out of college for 6 years. I wasted my money on a Princeton review course and I wasted my time trying to master the tricks and gimmicks in the course. While it's true these methods will help improve one's score, I found that despite my greatest efforts I couldn't crack the 620 mark on any of the practice tests. I started working with Bob in May 2017. I scored a 740 in late Jun 2017 because Bob made me smarter (it's really that simple)- letting go of the Princeton review and working with Bob turned out to be one of the best decisions I made with regards to my future. If you choose to work with Bob, I recommend 2-3 days per week. Be humble and let him teach you everything you need in order to excel in the Quant section. Most importantly, spend time everyday practicing and reviewing the concepts visited in each class. I didn't use him for Verbal, but I imagine he applies the same structure to his verbal sessions.

My experience with Bob was less than ideal. Although Bob is very knowledgeable about the GMAT…read moretopics, he failed to understand my individual needs. The private tutoring with Bob was a supplement to my already extensive GMAT practice. I had been studying for a few months prior to my initial meeting with Bob. I came to him with specific problem areas and with only 6 weeks until my exam, asked that we focus our time accordingly. He did not adhere to my request. Additionally, he would say things like "wow I'm surprised you got that one correct" or (4 days before my exam) "you're taking a practice exam on Monday right? Not the real exam. YOU ARE NOT READY." For someone who is hired to be an educator, the aforementioned quotes are obviously off putting. During the time I did spend with Bob, he was constantly answering texts & phone calls. His phone was on ringer and would go off 10-15 times during a 2 hour period. His attention was NOT undivided. Good luck to all those studying. UPDATE 9/16 - Although Bob and I did not align well, he did make amends by offering financial compensation for the time spent, as well as other resources that may be useful to me in my studies.
