The latest branch has been open for around 7 years and it really is quite a big store for a local chemists. It offers a huge range of products from toiletries to all kinds of over the counter medication from quit smoking aids to cold and flue remedies. They have recently started selling alternative therapies in one section (anyone else see the irony?). It's nice that family run businesses can still thrive in some parts of the city and Mooney's is certainly a shining example. It's always an advantage to go into a chemist and have a choice between paracetamol or dragon root for the treatment of your cold!!

I've been in before to pick up some hayfever medication and stock up on shampoos and the likes. Although the shop is a little cramped for space and cluttered, they offer some good bargains like toothpaste for 99p and discounted haircare products. They also stock a limited amount of make-up and the usual things you would expect in a pharmacy. Anytime I've been in, the staff were always very helpful and the place always seems to be busy with locals popping in to pick up prescriptions. I'm all for community pharmacies, you really can't compare the advice you get from a community pharmacist who knows their customers as opposed an overworked and burned out chain store pharmacist from Boots or the like who aren't as familiar with the medical history of their customers.

Based in Abbey Street and being nice and close to some main roads as well as the bus and train station makes this pharmacy easy to get to and really accesible. The staff are friendly and really seem to know what they're doing. There is always a helping hand available for whatever you need. Whether it be picking up a prescription or getting some tablets over the counter, you will always get good service here. One minor point would be that it is not always easy to get parked right outside but there are a couple of car parks within walking distance.

Apart from being a place to pick up your prescriptions it also stocks the usual over the counter medicines. One handy thing it sells is sports supports and plasters so if you happen to have a niggle at the gym or want to ease some pain before heading upstairs you can. Because Medicare is housed in the same building as a medical centre it is really well staffed as they obviously anticipate footfall - today I spotted at least 4 white cloaked members of staff. Great Chemist and pharmacy - as handy as they come and price wise it competes with the other main high street brands.

The staff know all their locals very well and will always go to get them their prescriptions and regular products before they even have to ask. This works out for my because my mums a Ceoliac and asking for bread in a chemist makes me look nuts! They sell a lot of products, from beauty to hygiene to house hold cleaning products. They need to make their money from as many things as possible to survive the threat of the big chain stores. It's an old school pharmacist in that people come in and talk to him before they go to the Doctor, and he usually knows exactly what they need for their ailments.

Crossans' is no exception. Owned by the same propietors of Crossan's Opticians' next door, the staff are friendly and have everything you could possibly need regarding medicine and personal health. So you can't really complain.

Like any other chemist (what's the difference between a Chemist and a Pharmacist? Answers on a postcard...?) it has the obligatory sections offering hygiene, beauty and household products, as well as perfumes, sunglasses and confectionery. I find it weird to see a chemist selling sweets.... Anyway, when I've been in here to fill my own prescriptions the chemist is always very helpful, knows everyone's name and looks after them with individual care; as do the other staff also. The prices for the general items on sale seem quite reasonable too - and you can get a cheap bargain on some products if you keep your eyes peeled and avoid the big spend in the likes of Boots. All in all, a friendly pharmacy who look after their customers.

The pharmacist is pretty friendly and offers lots of over the counter advice for minor ailments. For a small shop it's well stocked with lots of both sex toiletries, makeup and domestic products. There are always v good deals on things like toothpaste, facewipes and deodorants. Good selection of health brands like linwoods, biona, PhD and maximuscle. Protein bars like PhD, Quest and ON are from £1.49. Yankee candles also available. General chemist staff as helpful and friendly.

The time when muscle building was a prerogative has been and gone but back then it seemed fitting. Holland and Barrett was often the haunt of many looking to stock up on huge great tubs of the awfully flavoured nonsense, but prices here rivalled. £18 for a large tub of whey, banana flavoured. The staff are friendly and helpful and it is a convenient chemist to nip into, especially if you don't wish to go all the way into town. The only downside I guess is there is no hustle and bustle so when waiting for prescriptions you can be standing in an awkward silence!
