Sadly, while out of state Goumas fell off my radar but I'm here today to remind everyone how wonderful Goumas candy is and encourage you to visit one of their locations. They have three locations: Heath, Ohio, Granville, Ohio, and Newark, Ohio. We stopped in while waiting for the Licking County Courthouse Christmas lighting and for a brief time we were the only ones in the store located on the North side of the square in downtown Newark, Ohio. The cases were full of delightful candies and the two ladies behind the counter were cheerful and fun. They greeted us right away and my family chose several delectable candies ranging from chocolate covered Oreos and potato chips, to English Toffee, to Coconut Haystacks, to a wide range of truffles (my personal favorite). I escaped with a bag full of goodies to sample as we walked around the square as well as a box of assorted truffles. I highly recommend a visit to one of their three locations and don't forget to pick up your buckeyes!

Of course, I wasn't present when she stopped at the brick and mortar shop to ask questions as to what they use to flavor the different popped corn, so I'm not sure if it's all natural, liquid flavorings, a heap load of sugar, or what. And, the mint was not the traditional caramel kind, so my experience remains limited. Many, if not all, of the flavors were available to sample. My son sampled and enjoyed several of the more exotic flavors, while I stuck with the sweeter varieties. Unfortunately, I didn't care for any of the popcorn that I tried. I'm not really sure why. I love caramel corn, but the flavors just didn't seem bold enough to me. Perhaps it didn't impress me because I'll be forever comparing popcorn to the gold standard - Garrett's Popcorn in Chicago. And let's face it, if you've ever had Garrett's, you'll agree that there is just no comparison.
