Sadly, while out of state Goumas fell off my radar but I'm here today to remind everyone how wonderful Goumas candy is and encourage you to visit one of their locations. They have three locations: Heath, Ohio, Granville, Ohio, and Newark, Ohio. We stopped in while waiting for the Licking County Courthouse Christmas lighting and for a brief time we were the only ones in the store located on the North side of the square in downtown Newark, Ohio. The cases were full of delightful candies and the two ladies behind the counter were cheerful and fun. They greeted us right away and my family chose several delectable candies ranging from chocolate covered Oreos and potato chips, to English Toffee, to Coconut Haystacks, to a wide range of truffles (my personal favorite). I escaped with a bag full of goodies to sample as we walked around the square as well as a box of assorted truffles. I highly recommend a visit to one of their three locations and don't forget to pick up your buckeyes!

They had some really neat options, including Filipino tokels, described as a shortbread, a Welcome to Fall "WTF" cake with apples and cinnamon, a lemon cookie called a lemondino, and a whole lot more. I was intrigued by the sampler box, which had pieces of all of their small treats to try, but the youngest member of the group had immediately zeroed in on the truffle fudge and voted quite strongly for the entire La Patricia box (6 pieces of chocolatey fudge with a hint of peanut butter). The fudge was rich and delicious and much and enjoyed, and I'm still interested in going back to try some more of these delightful treats!

At $30 per pound, a sample and a few interesting facts about the Newark landmark Candy shop would have been a small and appreciated show of appreciation (in and of itself).
