I'm not a good shopper at the best of times, but when I get overwhelmed by so many vintage and seconds dresses, wooly jumpers, cheap handmade jewellery and hardly worn shoes I tend to give up quicker than actually buying anything. My tips for the serious shopper? - Go late in the afternoon when the stalls start selling off stuff at $5 to $10 - Don't go with friends, you won't see them and can rarely fit 2 of you walking side by side down the isles - Work out the standard price of things and don't go over. This isn't the place for $55 jumpers when you can get $20-30 ones 3 stalls down. - Bring cash! Very few stalls (if any) have card facilities. Held every fortnight in summer and the once a month in winter, this is a wonderful place to come for a late Sunday afternoon shop and bargain hunt.

With all good intentions of shopping very specifically for a leather bag I managed to walk away with 2 bags, a pair of shoes, a scarf and a skirt. At this point I had to be reminded that I needed to pace myself! A wonderful array of new and used items at very competitive prices are sure to tempt even the fussiest. Why would anyone ever pay full retail? Gilles Street Market in a wonderfully friendly and relaxed environment which reminds us that a retail experience cannot be compared with on-line shopping. Sure there's the thrill of an on-line bargain but can you also get live music, a DJ and scrumptious food as well as friendly service, a bit of bargaining and a unique way to spend a Sunday? I don't think so and I'm obviously not the only one!! The only downer is that there could be more stalls selling to guys. There's an opportunity guys to make some quick cash - invest in a stall and clear out your wardrobes. Or for the enterprising better halves- raid the wardrobe on their behalf and split the cash!!

This was almost entirely food stalls and felt like one very large communal picnic along North Terrace - not a bad experience all up. There was a busker providing live music which seemed to go perfectly in the summer breeze. This is obviously a popular event as there were crowds of people and pretty long lines for the food stalls too. There were plenty of families with young kids there - a pretty good way to spend a night out in school holidays with a not-too-heavy dinner (I don't know about you, but warm weather makes me want lighter meals usually, especially when it's dinner time and the sun is still up). I was bit disappointed at the lack of arts and crafts as I had hoped to do a bit Christmas shopping here tonight, but I think this is a market which will keep on growing as more people hear about it so perhaps I'll have better luck next year.

Perched up on the top end of the CBD's perimeter, the night market has a sweet little spot of a couple of garden blocks. Some of the stalls had trinkets, and I think that may be missing the market here... make this a food market and you'd be on a winner. There were plenty of food options for us, but a few more wouldn't go astray. Seats and tables were plentiful, a mix between some regularly there and built into the space versus ones set up by the market. It looks like we may have really lucked out having the Night Market running that evening we were in town, because it appears to be a monthly event, and their Facebook indicates they aren't even running over 2017-18's season (except for the Fringe). It's a pity! There's a lot of potential there.

That Dapper Market day was Saturday, 14 Dec…read more Organized, massive vintage shopping, great cakes and snacks (lots of vegan & gluten free choices), live entertainment, and all inside, undercover in Plant 1 in Bowden. It was one of the best executed local pop-up markets I've been to in Adelaide. Lots of free parking. A wide variety of vendors. Clean and comfortable, with just enough seating to take a break and enjoy a snack. Aside from a wide selection of vintage clothing, there was home-made soap and candles, jewellery and crafts on offer. One booth even offered really interesting hand-made compasses with an antique look. Not on offer were huge amounts of christmas paraphernalia, which made this a great venue for shopping for presents to give others for the holidays. By the time you read this, it will be over. Keep an eye out for the next Dapper Market event, put it on your schedule and go. You will not be disappointed. Eat, drink and be merry, but not too much. JD

Beautifully set in Plant 4 at Bowden, the old Clipsal factory site was full to the brim with second and vintage clothing, vases and furniture, prints, cushions, hand made jewellery, soaps, Four Seeds brownies, hot dogs, more vegan and food than you could ethically poke a stick at and as mentioned, a bar and live band. I loved the chaotic collision of stalls that forced you to walk around the market 2 or 3 times in a circular fashion to really feel like you had seen everything. I went at 4pm because I heard that at previous markets by 6-7pm a lot of food vendors started running out of stuff. All stall holders were so incredibly friendly and attentive and it didn't feel like there were there just to chat about their personal lives with each other, they were actually there to sell stuff and engage you. Yay for customer service 101! My biggest qualm about this space was the huge lack of seating (probably because it was so popular), which meant we had to sit down outside to eat. No problems really but this would bother an older demo. I'd also love to see more savoury food stalls that also sell non vegan related food - maybe I missed the memo about this being a vegan food market? All in all though it was a wonderful atmosphere, great selection of stalls at a range of affordability and very well coordinated - well done Littlest Vintage guys!

All of it tends to be on the cheaper end of the scale and there are plenty of wardrobe basics such as leggings, track pants, plain socks and T-shirts. But you can also find some really cool stuff that you just wouldn't see anywhere else. As the name suggests, this is not high fashion, and the store reflects that. The venue is underground and very little has been done in the way of decorating. It is not a place for the claustrophobic shopper. However, prices are cheap, there is a lot to choose from and the owners have never judged me for buying 16 pairs of bed socks at once.

Prices are not super cheap but not unreasonable - good sales make it affordable. Yesterday when I stopped by there was a 50% off sale on and a big sale rack out the front. This store is great fun if you - like me - love the stunningly hideous in fashion. Leopard prints, puffed sleeves, pink zebra sweaters and eighties party frocks in lurid shades.

Prices aren't majorly bargainous, but they often have 50% off everything sales to clear out the old and make space for the new. While I'm generally more of a minimalist, you can find the occasional interesting piece or accessory in here. Definitely worth a look.

Despite being located across the road from their fashion competitors TuYu, Nina Stephanie does a good trade and there is always customers in the store having a browse. They stock labels such as Bluejuice, Paradisco, Angel Biba and Sweetacacia and have a great range of casual and formal wear. The store is spacious and clean and everything is laid out well so it can be easily perused. There are a couple of large change rooms (I hate pokey ones) and the staff are helpful if you need any assistance. They also have a permanent sale rack where items are alternated and they are actually not all junk like most sale racks are; it is a good first port of call to look for a bargain. I'll start by saying that a business called "Whistles" is going to receive 5-stars simply because of the fact that I am a testosterone-filled male. But good heavens, this small shop racks up the sexiest dresses that are priced from $389 (for an amazing blue dress) to over $1000 for the most expensive black dress at the front (whattup beautiful girl....how you doin'?) ... shall I go on? There is usually one left for the best grabs...but if you are lucky enough to find it you'll be the envy of all customers for those precious, precious dresses (more than couple will ask you, "Where did you get that fine dress of yours that you're wearing?! Geez!"). Basically, apart from Rundle Street, Regent Arcade is another place full of "simply the best, better than all the rest!" fashion. Plus, the -sophisticated speaking staff are helpful, attentive and will not snob you off, topping off one of the best days I've ever had, largely thanks to the many beautiful Adelaide women I have seen previously today. So. So Sexy. Yes.
