But, I do stop in there every now and then to purchase a few items. This is my one stop shop for: Boxes - There are so many boxes here. Whether you want a plastic storage box or a cardboard gift box, you will find it here cheap. Canvas' - I like to paint. So, when I need a good cheap canvas, I find them at stores like this. But, I usually buy the paint from Arts & Craft stores. They are better quality elsewhere. However, the paints here are great for kids if you don't care as much about quality. Party supplies - napkins, plastic plates, streamers, balloons, wrapping paper, straws, etc... Yup, they have everything here and cheap. Be mindful. The quality of a lot of products here is not the best. But, I guess it depends what you are shopping for. For the cheap party stuff, quality isn't a major deal for me. But for things like toys, frames or kitchen supplies, I would shop elsewhere.

There are a crazy amount of stores all over asia and now they are branching overseas. It has Chinese origin and is jam packed full of stuff. Yes, stuff. Lot's of stuff. I don't know where to begin? Stationary, mugs, slippers, bags, pillows, toys, scented sticks, jars, things... things.. and some stuff. There is also a whole section devoted to gigantic toys. You know the ones that you see at the Royal Show for prizes when you win alley games. Those ones. I think if you are looking for cool little jars and storage containers you might like a few things here. But, otherwise just be prepared to be overwhelmed with things. Actually, I know who will love this store. High school students. This is a store for kids that want cute little toys to hang off their school bags, cool stationary and shiny objects to decorate their rooms. Don't get me wrong, there are some cute things here. Like a whole lot of cute stationary items. Loved the note pads and pens. But then I saw a flower bouquet of rabbits and teddy bears. I mean, who wants that? But, in all honesty, you should probably go have a look. It's not like any other store in Adelaide.

Sally's Seconds is attached to the Salvation Army next door (get it... "Sally's"?) and is jam-packed with all manner of clothing, toys and bric a brac. Because it's kind of tucked away and unassuming looking, Sally's can often be overlooked by bargain hunters and thrift lovers, but don't make the same mistake! I've found some amazing (and super cheap) stuff in here. On my last visit I scored a brand new kookai top for $5, an amazing retro set of '70s tumblers for $8, a lovely tin with geometric designs for $2 and I was tempted to take home "The Bill" board game for $2 but somehow resisted. Being in Norwood, the stock is generally of high quality and good brands, and I find it's rotated quite quickly as well, so you can come in for a weekly browse and find something new. Right in the middle of Norwood you would think that there would be a bunch of stock and some really good finds. I would say that Norwood is more of the upper-middle class area, so generally thrift stores in these areas have great gear to get your hands on. But, this one is just lacking in a lot of areas. This thrift store is small and separated into three rooms. I could see a large storage area at the back, maybe this is a staff area? Shame they do not use the space to expand the store. There was minimal clothing, books, crockery, etc... The staff also did not welcome me in the store like they do in the other Salvos stores. Such a let down and something that I like about their stores. Good customer services and generally helpful in most of them. Oh well... maybe I caught the staff on a bad day. But, I probably will not be back.

Yes, they are preloved but seeing the demographic of customer donations come from high income family backgrounds, most of the clothing and items here are in excellent condition. Faux fur ( still not a fan of fur!) coats are aplenty here and you will find stunning pant suits, which almost reminded me of Krystal Carrington of Dynasty fame. For those who appreciate vintage accessories and bric a brac, they have some beautiful pieces here. I managed to scoop a winter boots for $10, it looked almost as new and I couldn't be more happier with it. There is also a gorgeous kids dress up section, with fairy wings, batman costumes and a clown suit, just to name a few. If you are a collector, I would recommend this place to you, if not, do drop in for a little bit of window shopping fun.

The competition is definitely tougher. The range remains more upmarket than other Vinnies, and there are still fashionable finds to be uncovered, so it's definitely worth a visit. The whole back area is devoted to dress ups and costumes - which is a great use of the more outrageous retro clothing that comes through and kids pieces. Don't get me wrong, I still come in for a rummage, and as my local op shop I donate my old stuff too, but it isn't what it used to be *sigh*.

It's much more reasonably priced than you'd expect from a sparkly gift shop in the Eastern Burbs and the staff are pleasantly chatty and not at all snobbish. When a co-shopper was looking at a photo frame made out of a combi van, the sales assistant pointed out they also have combi van egg cups. Previously it was a K Food Express 24/7 supermarket and is now under new management, think they'd better do something about showing they exist online though! It was definitely handy being open as it is still a 24/7 store, as I was so thirsty and on New Years Day nothing much was open. There's an ATM inside, lots of posters decorating the front entry advertising bands, shows, etc which added a splash of colour and hipness. It's basically a mini mart where you'd only go for emergency supplies much like at a petrol station, but also great for any new visitors to the city to get supplies when staying in the nearby motels.

Yes it is just another chain store full of stuff you don't need but I am in a love/hate relationship with this Kmart. The layout is clever. Bloody annoying and sneaky like IKEA - but gosh it's clever. - You can't see over any isle so you have to hunt through the maze of gigantic displays. - They put women's bargain clothing (tops starting at $4) at the entrance. Bright colourful displays that make you think "yes I should start wearing more of this tangerine or fluoro blue in my life." - The store is also double storey so you feel like you are in a luxurious department store that has bargain basement prices. And finally the prices are amazing. You know that when you buy a $4 t-shirt it will last you one season and be 2 sizes bigger after a couple of washes. But hey what the hell it's only $4 right? Consumerism at its best. It is also refreshing to see a good homewares and toy store based in the mall with a really good range of items - something I was complaining about as I trawled the mall just 2 months ago unsuccessfully looking for a present for a 3 year old.
