I called a number of local shoe repair places and Clarke's was the first one to answer that had weekend hours so I opted to give them a try. Initially, I dropped off the shoe and was told I would get a call with an estimate. I dropped them off on a Saturday and had heard nothing by the following Sunday so I reached out via Facebook messenger and left my number. I was called back by Farrell, the owner, and given a quote, a time estimate and an option to pay via PayPal (they don't do credit cards). Once that was all squared away, Clarke's went to work on my shoe. When it was finished Farrell called me to let me know I could pick it up and explained a little about what he did to the shoe. While Bel Air is a bit of a drive for me, the customer service and quality of the work that Clarke's provided means I will be returning in the future.

The first two I was told would not be able to be stretched, which was totally fine, and he tried and I was satisfied. He gave me tips for stretching at home which was super kind and nice! The last two, I was not so thrilled with. The first pair needed resoled, which he did. But rather than asking if I would like them conditioned, he went ahead and conditioned the boots right over the stitching. He missed spots and other spots are globbed on. There is also conditioning inside the boot, very messily. The last pair, we discussed repair and I told him I was able to get a new pair of the same boots for 60$. He told me that rather than resoling them(due to the low price of new boots), that he would just repair the stitching. Fast forward to me coming to pick the boots up, and he resoled both the pairs, disregarding our conversation. He wrote no information down as to what I wanted. So here I am, paying an extra 60$ for resoled boots when I could have just bought them brand new for the same price. Disappointed with my service.

The other pair was new, but I had tripped on some uneven sidewalk and scraped the leather on the front of the shoe fairly deep. Both needed shines as well. I got both pairs back in a few days for $25 and they look good as new. I was hesitant to take my shoes anywhere in York because it takes me forever to find shoes that I like and the couple of places in town had 2- 3-star ratings. I'm extremely glad I drove down to Dallastown and gave this shop a chance.

We needed a little flap of leather added to my son's baseball glove, and after researching online baseball forums, everyone said that any reputable shoe/leather repair place would be able to do it. My husband sent off a message to Contino's along with photos of what we needed, but we never received a response. We took a chance and drove to the shop with the glove and photographs. We were greeted by a pleasant woman and we explained what we wanted. Without even standing up or looking at the glove, the man beside her said, "Oh yeah....I don't deal with those." I looked surprised and he continued with, "I'd have to deconstruct the entire glove and it's too much work." And that was it. I understand that he didn't want to take on the job, but I found his response to be very short and cold, considering that our family made a special trip there because of the lack of response to our initial inquiry. We've always heard great things about Contino's but won't be taking our business there in the future. :(
